âRight? How the tables turn right?â He laughed and shrugged. âIâm sure weâll make messes of our own sometime soon. We never can keep out of trouble for too long. Iâm just excited to have the Young Avengers back together. Itâs not official because weâre all supposed to be on this one big thing but it feels like that.â They all lived on the same floor and were back to spending all their time together. It felt like old times or at least like it could get to old times levels.
âItâs almost all of us. Eliâs the only one missing and you never know with him. Damiâs here though. Did you meet him? Batmanâs kid?â Teddy couldnât remember honestly. There was always something going on so timelines were hard to keep straight when you were thinking in terms of whether it was before or after an alien abduction or mission. âHeâs great. Heâs kind of prickly like a pissed off little porcupine but when you get past that heâs awesome.â
Teddy was always so damn earnest, it was hard not to smile. America allowed it, the small curve of her lips at his enthusiasm as she nodded along dutifully. "I have no doubt. We never were very good at staying out of trouble, I'll say that." And she was including herself in that one. Trouble found her, yes, but she made no secret of the fact that she was often looking for it.
"I'm sure he'll turn up at some point," America drawled lightly, canting her head as he brought up Batman's son. Now wasn't that quite something? "Not yet. I'll have to keep an eye out for him when I get back," she said, curiosity sparking in her head at the thought. However, Teddy's description of him earned a sharp laugh, something biting in its amusement, as she nodded a little. "Coming from Batman, I think him being a pissed off little porcupine makes a lot of sense."

âYou wouldnât!â Billy gasped, but it was pointless â both of them knew that she would and that it was bound to be super effective. Damn it. He resisted the urge to cross his arms over his chest, because it would make him look like some sulking child while America just made it seem badass, instead rolling his shoulders to casually shake himself off. Whatever he had sensed was gone anyway and he wanted to take the opportunity to catch up with the girl. His eyes widened at the mention of her mothers, a story he only knew a little bit of and suspected there to be more tragedy than America willingly divulged. Â
âThen Iâm glad you got out in time. It only got worse ever since,â he commented, not wanting to consider the possibility of what the ISA could have done with her abilities. âDid you⊠get any luck with your moms? Do you need help?â He wasnât sure what he could do, if he could do anything, but he offered it nonetheless.
"You know I would," she countered, eyebrows raising a little. Still, he shook himself off and she watched the investigative urge leave him so she relaxed too, her shoulders slouching down a little as she waited for him to settle back in. He was always so expressive, so bad at hiding his response to things she said and so, she was hardly surprised when he asked about her moms and the journey she had been undergoing. "You'll have to tell me all about the ISA. I want to know what we're handling if I'm sticking around for a while," she started. That was the easy part.
A slow exhale then a quick shake of her head. "Nothing from my moms. Not surprising. One day, maybe I'll figure it out but for now, it'll wait," she said slowly, measuring her words out. His offer of help was sweet but she would hardly do that. "Not sure what you could help with but I appreciate the offer," she said truthfully.
What was it with Peter and finding younger heroes lurking in alleyâs these days? At least this one he recognised and smiled when she turned and spotted him. âIf you say so.â Then he stepped forward. âItâs nice to see you, America. Still making men cry I see.â He gestured to the mugger who was holding his nose a sobbing in pain.Â
Did that meanâŠ? âAre the others here too?â He asked. It had been quite a while since Peter had clapped eyes on the Young Avengers, a team he had helped mentored at the very start of things. Wasnât a team player, yet had practically trained two of them so far.Â
"Nice to see you too, Parker," she said casually, prodding at the sobbing man with her foot - if only to add insult to injury. "Sometimes I have to otherwise they don't get the memo," she drawled as the man attempted to shift and crawl away from her. She let him go. He had gotten the message.
America lifted one shoulder in a casual shrug. "Billy. Tommy. Teddy. Kate, I think." She listed off. "Everyone seemed to converge after the events at Wundagore. I only came to see what mess they had to clear up this time," she said, shaking the hand she had punched the mugger out with before sliding it into her pocket.
The mutants were familiar to America. Her mother had spoken of them in a tone that brokered only fondness and camaraderie and yet, she had not encountered all that many. Certainly not to the extent of Bobby Drake - one of the original X-Men team. She could see him coming from across the way and she raised her eyebrows faintly, leaning back and resting her arm over the back of the sofa she was currently occupying in the communal lounge.
"Hey," she greeted casually with a flick of her wrist.
She wasnât using her full strength â a good thing, considering what she was capable of in the battlefield â but Billy lowered those few inches back down, feet touching the ground once more. He made a face as she tried to talk him out of his detective stunt. Fine, she was probably right, but⊠âI donât see why not, thereâs two of us now.â No one can call him out on putting himself in danger on his own this time.
âI just told you. Oh, you mean here, in SokoviaâŠâ He deflated, unsure of how to proceed. In spite of having helped their team before, America had disappeared for years, and there was a lot at stake there for him to give out too much information. âItâs kind of classified. Magical stuff happened, itâs all under control now. What are you doing here? We thought something had happened to you.â
His grumbling hadn't ceased any since moving over to Sokovia from New York then, and America was relieved to see that some things would never change. His gentle wheedling to attempt to get into the woods wouldn't land with her though. She merely kept an eyebrow raised and shook her head. "I'm not going in there and I know for a fact I could go tell Teddy that you went alone," she countered, knowing she had him beat.
Classified. Based on what Teddy had told her, there was a lot more going on under the surface. She supposed they would tell her the details eventually but, in return, she supposed she had to be forthcoming with them too. Sighing, she removed her hand from his shoulder and folded her arms instead. "I was travelling for a while. Looking for my moms," America admitted. "Figured it was best to get out while the Accords were still tightening up before they figured out what I could do."

She acted like sheâd been around this whole time and she wasnât just popping back into their lives. âI donât think weâve made any recently. Billy had to help clean one up though. Remember how he always talked about Scarlet Witch? Well he got to meet her recently. And it was kind of a big deal.â He wondered if that was why America was here. Maybe she felt a pull. He didnât really get how her stuff worked totally.
âHave you seen the others yet?â
The Scarlet Witch. That was some heavy-duty magic and probably part of what had caused the ripple that pulled her back here. That, at least, made sense in comparison to everything else here. "Well, that's new. Usually we make the mess, rather than clean them up," she said wryly, a faint amusement ticking at the corner of her eyes as she spoke. His question about the others made her shift a little from foot to foot. "Not yet."
America had been careful in Sokovia so far. Light treads, no fights, only a minimal amount of stomping and dimension hopping. So, when she found herself in an alleyway, having just punched a mugger in the face - leaving him howling and bloody, she couldnât exactly be blamed for her actions.
She wasnât about to let him get away with that. Still, when she looked up to see a vaguely familiar face, she couldnât help but set her jaw.Â
âHe swung first.âÂ
Exploring Matchak was high on Teddyâs list once he got all settled in the Mousehole with Billy. He needed a break from being bombarded with meeting the coolest people in the world. Besides heâd never been to Eastern Europe before. He wanted to see what it was like. So he walked down the streets hearing the sounds and smelling the fresh scents of foods he didnât even recognize. He didnât understand a word of Sokovian, but he wasnât looking to talk to anyone right now.
He didnât expect to see someone else he knew. Maybe he should have, but the actual person it was was more shocking than all of it.Â
âAmerica?!â He asked, barely believing his eyes. âWhat are you doing here?â Teddy hadnât seen her since the invasion.
.
America had been browsing the markets of Matchak, if only to get a feel for the place and for the kind of people she could hope to encounter throughout her time here, when she heard a familiar voice just over her right shoulder. She turned to see Teddy approaching her, eyes wide and earnest, and she couldn't help the half smile that twitched her lips. It was hard not to smile when confronted with Teddy's particular brand of earnestness.
"Hey," she said casually, handing over some money to the vendor and taking the fruit she had been looking at when he had approached. Â
"Figured I'd better come out and see what messes you've all made that I'll have to clean up," she said with a light smirk.
Billy should never do that kind of thing by himself, but it seemed that he was too stubborn to learn. Instead of summoning one of his teammates to his side, he gave in to curiosity and skirted the edge of the woods outside the Mousehole, simply because he sensed that there was a presence hiding somewhere among the trees. It wouldnât hurt to be useful, to prove his worthâ
âHoly shit!â He let out, an arm thrown up to create a solid forcefield in front of him, the same color as the star that appeared on the forest ground. âOh, itâs just you⊠wait, itâs you.â A smile lit up his face as he dropped his defense, staring up at the girl. Miss America, as theyâd come to know her, and that was quite literally the only bit of information they had about her aside from the handy superstrength and earth-shattering stars. âWhy not? Somethingâs in there, isnât it?â He craned his neck to look over her shoulder, floating a bit to match her height.
The forcefield came up in time to stop any real harm coming to him and America folded her arms, staring down at him with one raised eyebrow, as she watched the recognition dawn in his eyes. She hadn't exactly stuck around often during their few teamups but the fact that he remembered her was quite something. "It's me," she confirmed instead of saying any of that aloud.
She watched him float up to her height and huffed out a sigh, placing her hand on his shoulder and pushing him down slightly. "Sure is something in there," she confirmed. "But you shouldn't be investigating it, that much is for sure." She said firmly. "What are you doing here anyway?" America asked. This was almost certainly what had drawn her here - wasn't it always the Demiurge and his twink? - so she might as well get ahead of herself and ask now.
The catch with superheroes was that more often than not â unless they had an overt mutation or singular traits of a different species â they looked like regular humans, their extraordinary abilities coming into play solely when necessary. It surely served them well in times of having to escape the ISA at every turn. On his part, not strictly related to vigilantes, Steve had a good eye for people with combat training â how they carried themselves, how they took in their surroundings and gauged threats or opponents.
Young as she looked, that girl fit the bill, and Steve had a vague recollection of a similar heroine having operated in New York City years before. Considering that the Young Avengers were flocking to Sokovia, it wasnât a surprise to find others like them hanging around. Either that or the ISA had brought fresh new hunters to their roster. It was a while until their eyes met and he waited for a reaction, her attitude already letting him know that she didnât fear him at all. He crossed the square towards her, sitting down on the other end of the bench. âDo you need any help?â Â
America had no interest in the Avengers - in joining their ranks, or in the acts they executed - but she had been living in New York before leaving to search the multiverse. She knew who Steve Rogers was. She also knew he was bound to approach her - a relatively young adult sat alone in the middle of a city with the attitude of a brawler? He wouldn't be able to resist. Sure enough, he began to cross the square and America squared her shoulders a little, her brow still raised fractionally.
"Depends what kind of help you mean," she countered, voice steady. "I don't think you'll know anything that'll be useful to me." And if he did, he wouldn't share with a stranger like her. She didn't expect the Avengers to know anything about the Utopian Parallel or, hell, even the Demiurge. But she could feel it. Billy - and probably the rest of his ragtag team - was here. "Looking for a friend." She said instead of elaborating further.

Patrolling around the city and the surrounding areas had revealed to America that, if anywhere was going to cause problems, it would be the woods just outside MiĆĄiÄev Dvorac. Naturally, if she knew anyone who would manage to seek out the most problematic area in a 30 mile radius like he was a moth to a flame, it would be the damn twink that the Demiurge had chosen.
Which is why she wasn't surprised to see him, a little too close to a spot she had come to term as the tipping point of weird shit. Much further into the woods and he would start to experience some sort of terror which she would prefer he didn't. So America dropped from her position in the tree branches above, landing with an almighty stomp as she often did, the familiar star bursting from her feet.
The ripple of whatever the hell was going on in Sokovia had been felt throughout the entirety of the multiverse. Just a twinge - something familiar but frustrating pulling at the edges of her awareness. One well-placed stomp of her foot had landed America safely just outside Matchak, in a crackling blue star, before she had started the long hike into town, hair swept up into a twist with rogue curls framing her face.
"Fucking Demiurge," she muttered to herself, eventually crossing into the square of the town. Sharp eyes scanned for anything unusual.
Nothing as of yet. Reluctantly, she steered herself to one of the benches to park herself for a moment and watch. Someone would come along eventually. Eventually, her gaze locked with someone's across the way. The moment held for long enough that it looked suspicious. America raised a challenging eyebrow.
âTake it down a gear. No shame in being afraid. Being brave isn't the same thing as not being scared.â
CHARACTER NAME/ALIAS: America Chavez / Ms America
FACECLAIM: Herizen Guardiola
AFFILIATIONS: Young Avengers, herself, maybe the Nomads
AGE: 20
SPECIES: Metahuman
MOUSEHOLE DUTIES: Sapper
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
- Bold vs. Reckless: America takes the big swings. In battles, in life, around other people. She is the one who will step up and make the bold choice in favour of actually doing something rather than simply hoping that the world will fix things for her. Thatâs not how it works and everyone knows it. If youâre scared to make a decision, America will step up and do it for you. Except sheâll make the decisions even when people donât ask. Sheâll make them on the fly and quick on the draw and sometimes that works. Sometimes, she doesnât think about the consequences of her actions and it leaves her in a situation worse than the one she just left.Â
- Confident vs Brash: Similarly, her confidence has been hard won and fought for throughout her life. She was a shy, nervous child, but forced to grow up too soon and, in doing so, it forced her to learn confidence quickly. Her powers leave no time or space for self-doubt and sheâs long since learnt to work through those feelings efficiently. However, this means that she forgets not everyone has had that experience. She can be unwittingly brash and hard on people when they display insecurity and itâs worth it for her to take a breath between her instinctive response and actually saying anything. The confidence she wears is hard won and necessary but sheâs learning softness too.Â
- Loving vs Expectant: America feels everything so very deeply. She masks a lot of this behind the cool, swaggering bravado of the vigilante who kicks teeth in and punches holes in the multiverse but she is an intensely emotional person. She loves with all her heart and does so very, very fiercely. Itâs an honour to have Americaâs love bestowed upon you. It also comes with expectations sometimes. She holds herself to great standards when it comes to the people she loves. She holds them to those same standards too, even if they are unaware. It can be unfair and sets them up to disappoint her but she canât help it.
POWERS:
- Self-Propelled Flight: America has the ability of self-propelled flight at superhuman speeds.
- Superhuman Strength: America has demonstrated incredible strength. She appears to easily tear large metal doors off their hinges, and nearly bested the Asgardian god Loki in a fight. Loki has commented that she could "throw tanks to the moon", though this is likely an exaggeration.
- Power Stomp: America can focus her internal power into her feet and legs in order to deliver an energized shock-wave with a single step.
- Invulnerability: America is bullet-proof, flame retardant, has superhuman durability, and can survive even in the vacuum of space unaided.Â
- Star Portal Creation: America has the rare ability to smash open star-shaped portals that enable her to traverse the Multiverse, she can use them offensively as a spatial slicer, as well as access the Starling Highway.
- Interdimensional Travel: America can use her gateways to travel between realities at will.
- Energy Infusion: Individuals of the Parallel that Chavez calls home are capable of harnessing their inherent power from within, using it to vastly augment their physical fighting ability by leaps and bounds.
WEAKNESSES:
- Psychic Defenses: Americaâs powers are so intensely physical that she would be susceptible to psychic and psionic attacks.
- Personality: America can be reactive and emotional which can result in aggressive outburstsÂ
- Edges Syndrome: A genetic disease linked to the XX chromosomes which causes cellular degeneration. Americaâs childhood cure still holds but the threat is real and present.
HEADCANONS:
- The Demiurge is so important to her. It forms a central tenet of her faith - or at least the faith she was raised with - and it is a power that gave her and her mothers a utopia to exist within. It both disappoints her and delights her that Billy is its vessel. She expected something grand and someone untouchable. Itâs humbling and reassuring that it is just some twink she can bully with all the love in her heart.Â
- She loves to learn history - especially Earth history - of her people. She comes from another dimension but she forges real cultural connections on Earth and the history of revolution in her culture is important to her - it forms a basis for how and why she conducts herself as a vigilante.Â
- She definitely got too into Pokemon for a hot second and is an extremely skilled rock/fighting type trainer. Thatâs all.Â
- She loves to have connections with people and she will make an effort to create those connections. All this to say, America throws a hell of an event. Sleepover, party, dinner? You got it. Sheâll make it happen with all the grim determination of someone in the fight for her life.Â
- Growing up in a place without any form of patriarchy or ruling masculinity means that America does not take kindly to being told what she can and cannot do. She has never had her strength or competency questioned on the basis of her gender and she will not hear it from anyone.Â
- Okay. Bear with me here. In Doctor Who, when Rose becomes Bad Wolf, she says âI can see everything. All that is, all that was, all that ever could beâ and the Doctor replies; âthatâs what I see. All the time. And doesnât it drive you mad?â This is Americaâs experience. She canât see the multiverse. Not in so many words. But she knows it and she can feel it - all that potential just simmering away all the time. Itâs exhilarating and exhausting and it puts her on edge all the time.
CHARACTER BIO â
It all started with a wish. Amalia Chavez was born and raised in Washington Heights; coming to be a scientist and a scholar and a doctor. It was a fulfilling life, one that allowed her freedom and space and everything she had ever wanted. Except the fact that Amalia longed to be somewhere where she could fall in love with a woman freely and without recompense or fear of retaliation. She wished for it. Over and over. Every night before bed, every morning when she arose, every time she was in the lab. Eventually, the universe heard her. Triggered by Amalaâs experiments and by her own latent mutant gene, the universe sparked to life and so the Utopian Parallel came into focus for Amalia. All she had ever wished for; the chance to love and be loved as a queer woman without fear. Amalia met Elena in the Utopian Parallel and so it came to be that America Chavez was born; the daughter of Earth and the Utopian Parallel all at once.Â
Living in the Utopian Parallel was exactly what it said on the tin; a utopia through and through. She came to learn her own strength and her wisdom and her joy early and all was to be perfect and loving for the rest of her life.Â
Or until she was six.Â
When America was six years old, the Utopian Parallel began to collapse - black holes threatening to pull it out of the pocket it had been created in and out into the wider Multiverse. Elena and Amalia sacrificed themselves to stop it. They were scattered across the Multiverse in that moment and, as it always does, Americaâs next chapter began with a wish. She wished to find them again and the Utopian Parallel answered. Armed with the ability to literally punch holes in the multiverse, she emerged on our Earth, washing up in Jones Beach - close to where Amalia was born. She was taken in by the Santana family and raised to adulthood by them, even as she began to operate as a vigilante on the side. This came to upset her adoptive family as it was attracting attention. For anyone else, perhaps this wouldnât be a problem. Living in Washington Heights, however, it did nothing but inflame the neighbourhoodâs already contentious relationship with the NYPD.Â
Eventually, America renounced the Santana name and struck out on her own once more. Over the next few years, she proceeded to do what work she could - even allying once or twice with the brand new Young Avengers team, although she was prone to helping out and then disappearing before anyone could get hold of her name or identity.Â
She was operating as a vigilante in New York still when the Accords were first brought in. She refused to sign. Firmly and categorically, she would not sign away her right to exist for the sake of peopleâs comfort. America took off into the multiverse. She had abandoned her mothers for too long and there was nothing left on this earth for her now.Â
Until. Until the chaos magic of Chthon and the subsequent warping of the Demiurge rippled through every reality and America knew she had to return. She has come to find out once and for all what is going on out here.
