Amarantheia

Jester had crashed about ten minutes after Beau finally came in from downstairs. Her quiet, adorable snores were the only sound in the room, until birds began singing outside. Yasha’s shoulder ached against the wood floor, but she did not move, keeping sentry facing the window and the dawn.

Thoughts endless, and uselessly repetitive, she blinked once against the growing blue of the morning sky. Beau liked her, maybe. The others would be up soon. Beau might like her back. She wondered what they would have for their last breakfast in the city. Jester said Beau liked her.

She heard a shift of skin on cotton sheets behind her, the first movements of a waking body. In an instant she sat upright, awake as she had been when Beau stumbled in just seven hours ago. Her jolt brought her face-to-face with a sleep-worn Beau, up-side-down in bed where she had fallen the night before. Her hair was a mess, eyes still barely blinking open, and there was still a piece of glitter stuck to her cheek.

Oh, yeah. Yasha had it bad.

Yasha reaches up to brush some of the hair out of Beau’s face, almost unable to stop herself. I keep reaching out to you, she thought. Even when I thought I had lost the ability. It’s always you.

“Good morning,” she said instead. She felt herself smile.

“Good morning!” Jester sung from the other bed, suddenly wide awake and bubbly. “Today we are going to Eiselcross!”

The moment, if there had even been one, shattered. But Yasha didn’t feel its loss quite as keenly. She knew there would be other moments. And, as she watched the sleepy grin curl across that beautiful face, she knew her moment would be soon.

“On to the next adventure, yeah?” She asked.
