It's not my favorite, but it's certainly up there! If anything, rather than happy, it's bittersweet.
Despite living with their uncle, Weisel is actually kinda fucking shit at paying attention to the boys outside of their basic needs. With Oscar being the oldest, it means he was the one taking care of Morris in every way their uncle won't. This includes celebrating his little brother's birthday. He's the one with the day memorized, he's the one that goes out of his way to fork out a large portion of his (VERY minimal) income to get something for Morris. Oscar's the one who does it all.
In return, Morris tries. Neither of them actually know Oscar's birthday, but they know the month. So, over the years as they've grown up in the streets of Manhattan, Morris has guessed. Every year it's a different day he will try and surprise his older brother the 1st, the 2nd... 13th, 20th, he tries! Every August is a new attempt. It's almost bittersweet to have it happen every year, especially since Morris can't quite settle on a day. But what gives. Oscar doesn't mind being a year older on whichever day Morris chooses.

Yep, that’s what I was pretty much trying to get across back in chapters like 7 and 9. The three of them leaned on each other as parents up until Ivy, Maddie, and Sprig got their legs. And while I think Mrs. Flour was probably lost in the attack, I think Ivy’s dad might have just not really been around. Not in an abandonment way, but more of Felicia was a young daring adventurer and maybe didn’t realize she was pregnant until she was 4 towns away sort of way.
As for seeing Maddie and Ivy next season, well, I will say there might be a clue in the finale :)

Really wanted a positive example of Sasha and Marcy’s pre-Amphibia relationship, since its something not explored in canon.(I can appreciate that canon doesn’t ruminate on the girl’s pre-Amphibian times, what with the animation medium needing to make the most of it’s screen time, but I’m doing prose, and there is so much richness that can be delved into when your dealing with a friendship that started when they were 5).
As for more context about why Sasha mind set during Anne’s 13th, Ill be honest, that's a totally logical connection to make and I hadn’t really considered it. TBH no. this little tradition was very much a thing between Sasha and Marcy. If it had any deeper roots than being kind of controlling of Anne, I think it would be more related to Sasha’s own family issues.
