im unsure if the neat black skirt I got last week is too cunty for work... it goes down midcalf but the slit is halfway up my thigh. I don't understand 'business casual'. t shirt and jeans is fine, and so are sporty shorts. but no yoga pants and depending on the person no jeans. I'm supposed to dress kinda nice but I don't wanna dress too fancy cause I'm working with people that usually either don't have a lot of money or aren't able to put much effort into their appearance. I like wearing normal clothes but scrubs are so much easier. i don't have all that many clothes that both have pockets and I'm 100% sure are neither too fancy nor casual
clinical medicine is simple, basically the way it works is 99.999% of doctors don't know anything at all, so they only treat the 10–15 most common problems in their specialty. this might sound bad, but actually it's better, because 99.999% of patients don't have any complex medical problems anyway, which we know because they've never been diagnosed with anything except the 10–15 most common problems in the relevant specialty, because in order to be evaluated for something else they would have to be referred to one of the 0.001% of doctors who occasionally know something about some other condition, but they can't get that referral because they obviously don't need it because they've only been diagnosed with simple problems that the other 99.999% of doctors evaluate. so as U can see it's really about ensuring every patient gets the best possible care.
probably should have seen it coming I guess but it's pretty fucking annoying everyone saw a conversation about "people don't understand how difficult it is clothes shopping as a trans woman" and proceeded to show just how much they don't understand it by assuming it's only about sizing and not the constant societal surveillance and inability to use the change rooms and fear of being kicked out of the story and unwillingness even for friends to recognise that there's barriers in your way and try and help you.
even people trying to commiserate with me complaining about the dumb responses assumed that it was just about sizing. and phrased it all like "you're so seen and valid". fucking christ.
wow it's almost like people don't understand how challenging it is clothes shopping even years into transition as a trans woman! who could have guessed??????
Not the strongest comparison here but
"It's incredibly difficult and challenging using public bathrooms as a transgender woman and it should be obvious why if you have paid attention to anything ever"
"Girl I feel you, welcome to womanhood. sometimes the seats are gross or someone's left something on the floor, we all experience this, you're so valid for this"
(meanwhile I'm lucky if I'm not immediately stopped upon entering)
with clothes it's like ok cool but you might notice that you are wearing womens clothes from the clothes store that you bought and were able to try on before buying and weren't called a pervert and/or pedophile over it. meanwhile I am not. so maybe this is not actually "something all women experience" or just about sizing yes?
hope this isn't derailing but i think that this is heavily shaped by this condescending attitude people have about trans women's womanhood. they treat us like little girls discovering every aspect of being a woman instead of understanding us as adults who can have fully formed and informed opinions and analysis about our lived experience.
folks assume we have everything to learn about being women, because the idea that they would have anything to learn from us about it or about being a trans woman is simply too ridiculous to even cross their mind.

the "empathy fatigue" stuff is also very revealing because when you examine health professionals' self-reporting on the matter there is a specific type of person they describe losing empathy for- unsurprisingly, it's people with particularly chronic health issues and disability, drug users, people who "refuse to take care of themselves" and especially anyone with a health condition perceived to be "their own fault". very often what they describe as "empathy fatigue" is actually just the mask slipping on the seething contempt they already held
oh, during burnout you happen to feel less empathetic toward criminals, alcoholics, teens and drug users? that's really interesting and i feel so sorry for how hard your job must be that its caused these feelings in you.
step 1: replace all the air in your fridge with carbon dioxide
step 2: age for at least a week (make sure to store lots of aromatics)
step 3: collect the carbon dioxide from your fridge
step 4: compress it
step 5: use it to carbonate water
et voilà! you have fridge flavoured carbonated water.

is there a single straight woman that wouldn't fuck austin powers if he were real
Said it in replies but it's generally good life advice. If you are someone who struggles with food palatability and will regularly just not eat because nothing seems good, make sure your house always has some fruits with long shelf life (apples, peaches, plums, pineapple are all excellent for this) and a soup stock that you know you like.
Having a low activation energy way to get sugars and a low effort way to get salts and hot food will save you more often than you think. Both keep long enough that you won't need to restock until you feel better.
And goldfish or pretzels. Sometimes a crunchy texture makes eating easier =)
Snack foods are good to have in general but it is really important that you be able to eat something high in sugar and something hot, neither of those substitute those roles.

Big Appliance will never convince me to buy a rice cooker
Nurses vote overwhelmingly in favour of job action, sending clear message to government and employers
98.2% vote in favour of a strike!! I love to see the strong agreement and willingness to force improvements. It's related to issues like staffing, nurse-patient ratios, and violence and safety. This doesn't necessarily mean there's going to be a nursing strike, more that the employers association will have a lot of pressure to make concessions in bargaining if they want to avoid it.
Love all the yanks in the notes going like "yuropoors don't understand in the states we have use our cars everyday or else we would DIE" yea right I'm sure the good folks in Laos, Peru, Senegal and Rwanda understand that they can just use footpaths and widespread robust public transport to compensate for their petrol prices being like twice as expensive as in the US. They would understand that the US is the only place in the world where car ownership is a life-or-death trade and the only place in the world where unemployed disabled people need to get groceries. Those folks probably have higher wages than the US too so in the end those higher petrol prices even out, right?
Quick demonstrative conversion:
Average gas price in the US right now is around $4.50 per gallon.
$4.50/gal *0.26gal/liter =$1.17 /L
Exchange rate is currently €0.85 to $1.00
So that comes out to a little under:
€1.00/L
The only European countries beating that price point as of may 4th, according to this website (https://www.cargopedia.net/europe-fuel-prices) are Russia and Belarus, presumably due to export sanctions depressing domestic Russian fuel prices.
Most European countries see petrol prices hovering closer to €1.80 to €2.00, with Denmark and The Netherlands at €2.30/L.
Just a quick look at how comparatively low US gasoline prices are even after getting into a pissing match with Iran.
ever notice that every time someone gets stuck or dies cave diving it's a man

whats cool about being trans is my parents are totally right. i did kill their beautiful son. im the thing that animates his corpse in an ever more convincing parody of a happy girl. i devoured him from the inside out and now there is nothing left of him and he is dead dead dead and there is only me, with my hollow eyes and dark eyeliner and long hair, and my big smile. my limp, effeminate gestures belie the marionetting of the boy they loved. my fagginess is his death. already his body becomes a fitter home for my parasitism in full; the tits, the hips, the thighs. sorry about your kid. thanks for the biomass <3
gosh this vaccine is fucking me up I should've done this weeks ago when i had more time to wallow in pain
I have never shivered as badly as I did last night. heated mattress pad on space heater running head under my covers violently shaking for at least an hour. zoo wee mama. i probably fried some brain cells with the fever I must have had. I should really get a thermometer at some point
and on the third day she rose feeling relatively normal
