EACH DAY THE SAME Alyson Provax on Violet Strays through September 4, 2014.
Sometimes maybe never, 2013 Come see it in person at the group show OFF WHITE at BC Gallery, 2328 NW Westover Road, Portland. Opening Friday July 18, 5:30-9pm, show up through August 31, 2014.
Alyson Provax shows similar qualities to delicate intricacy, yet her materials are left to their own demise. Using a finite palate, the details reveal themselves as time goes on. Her addition of words and well-defined shapes add another dimension to the pieces, almost like she is leaving clues to a bigger picture.
Works clockwise from top:
We Are Each of Us, A Multitude; 2013, Silkscreen monotype, intaglio, letterpress; 23x15”
Diagram 1; 2014; Silkscreen monotype/collage; 14x20”
Sometimes Maybe Never; 2013; Silkscreen monotype, intaglio, letterpress; 14x20”
More or Less; 2013; Silkscreen monotype, intaglio, letterpress; 15x23”
Diagram 3; 2014; Silkscreen monotype/collage; 15x23”
And here is her statement:
It’s been said that when the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs tore through earth’s atmosphere, an observer would have been able to see through the hole in the daytime sky all the way out to the stars and planets beyond. It is ideas such as this that I use as a point of departure, as I attempt to identify the experience of inhabiting a moment in time without crushing its magic. I utilize the language of diagrams, landscape, and typography as well as the imagery of natural science to look towards what is personal and close: our bodies in space, our movement through time.
Work in progress
