modithorson:
Modi sighed and stood quietly, pondering it over. Though it sounded like a good plan. It also sounded like a small child tattling over something that could be seen as trivial.
“In Asgard. Rape is punishable by death if enough evidence is provided.” He started, clasping his hands behind his back. “In other cultures, it’s overlooked. Not even bothered with. I don’t know how it’s seen here. For all I know, you could end up sounding like a whiny child to these people. Your father could easily manipulate the whole thing in his favor and have you removed from the throne. Even say that it was done to mold you into the Der you are today. A number of things could happen. Yes. It could work in your favor to tell your people. But if it doesn’t work…The stakes are pretty high.”
It was the worst crime one could ever perform among her people, akin to ripping the strength from someone’s spirit. Yet whenever Alaron thought to bring it before the high council, the elected officials she’d asked the people to select, her tongue would not move. So she suffered his presence in silence.
“To be honest, I’ve never been home long enough before to see a proper trial happen for an accusation like this. Even if it was not done by him, the fact that Zahar hired someone to commit such a crime is worse. The gods insist on balance between the strong and soft, chaos and order...On that day the balance was knocked toward one side, in our beliefs.” Alaron explained, though her voice was tight. If only she hadn’t destroyed everything that night, her case would be solid, but now too long a time had passed. “If I were my mother, I’d simply have him killed, but this is not the time for causing chaos in one of my strongest allies.” The new queen shrugged, her face changing back to the one she had donned for so many years--curly hair, violet eyes, with the look of one more homely than a queen should be--and looked towards her asgardian friend. “A duel is perhaps my only option; all I’d have to do is have him offend me--or an ally--in public.”
