Book 2, book 2!!! It's happening!!! (ETA: Just want to clarify that book 2 is season 2 of the webcomic, chapters 38 through to the epilogue). Thanks so much to Brett and Little Bee Books for bringing the full webcomic to print, and to Maria for organising everything and being wonderful. Club Tropicana

Ari North is a queer cartoonist who believes an entertaining story should also be full of diversity and inclusion. As a writer, an artist, and a musician, she wrote, drew, and composed the music for Always Human, a complete romance/sci-fi webcomic about two queer girls navigating maturity and finding happiness.

Once a comic on Webtoon, Always Human has been adapted for print release, and the first book was published by Yellow Jacket in cooperation with GLAAD in early June.

Always Human started as a webcomic and now is reprinted as a book, how do you feel now that the first season is printed and released?

I’m really, really excited! I absolutely love webcomics (and other digital mediums such as podcasts and visual novels), but the very first stories I ever fell in love with were books with pages that turn.

(That said - webcomics, in general, are an incredible medium. There’s so much flexibility and freedom you don’t get in print, and because of this, there are so many wonderful queer stories in so many genres being created by people who want to share a part of who they are. Webcomics are a fantastic medium.)

This story is clearly very personal to you. How did your identity as a queer woman, and your personal believes affect the story?

The first thought that popped into my mind in response to this is the “this is the future that liberals want” meme.

You may have heard from online retailers that there are delays with shipping the book out, and that the book is temporarily out of stock. Unfortunately the pandemic has slowed down deliveries from warehouses, but Little Bee is seeing what they can do to help the book get to you sooner :)

If you were part of the preorder campaign, you should have got your digital goodies by now (I hope you’re enjoying the extras :D)

If you’re still waiting:

1) Please check your spam folder. Please check your promotions folder! The emails have gone out, but they ended up in weird places for some people, so keep looking.

2) If you have previously received a confirmation email from Little Bee, but haven’t got the digital goodies yet, please wait for a few more days then continue to step 3.

3) If you suspect there’s some sort of gremlin lurking in the great internet void, sneakily destroying any and all emails between you and Little Bee, let’s try a different email address, to see if that fixes things :)

Please forward the original email you sent to Little Bee (the one with preorder confirmation etc.) to [email protected] and, if you preordered the hardcover, please also include your mailing address :) And then I will get back to you, and we’ll sort the extras out!

Here’s the art for the postcards I’ll be printing as an Always Human preorder bonus :D I don’t do chalky/pastelly art very often, so this was fun! I mostly used dry media brushes from the DAUB set.

There were some delays with printing, but they finally all came, and they are so pretty, and I have a set of lovely metallic markers ready for signing :D (I also have way too many boxes full of prints and envelopes in my office, help!)

There’s one week left to preorder the hardcover and then get these in the mail, direct from me to you 💙
