you were talking with an old group from friends from highschool, catching up and talking about old times.
“are you dating clark now?” one of the girls ask, a teasing smile on her face. it takes you by surprise, the question a bit sudden and out of the blue. “well, no. we just work together, but i kind of like him.” you admit.
everyone giggles, cooing at how flustered you are, but there’s this one girl who just stares at you, an almost triumphant smile curving on the corners of her lips. “oh, yeah? i still text clark, he seems like he’s interested in me.” she scoffs lightly, almost trying to challenge you.
feeling a bit cornered, confused as to why she wants to one up you, you nod along. “that’s… nice.” you can only mumble, thinking about her and clark. they did have a bit of history for a while, but it ended on good terms.
maybe clark likes her again? maybe he was never really interested in you?
after a small get together with clark, lois, jimmy and you at clark’s house, the apartment is warm and still trying to settle down from the drinks and laughter of friends coming together.
it feels much safer and less competitive than when you were with your highschool friends.
lois and jimmy are in the living room, arguing on what to watch while you and clark are in the kitchen, picking out bowls for popcorn and more drinks to loosen up throughout the night. it doesn’t really matter if there’s work tomorrow, right?
feeling a rush zap through your body, and a push from the few drinks you had, you suddenly turn to face clark. “y’know, i was with sarah and a few other friends this morning… catching up.”
he turns his body towards you. “yea? what did you guys do?” you shrug, humming softly. “nothing much. just talking.”
he nods, and is halfway turning back to the task at hand before you speak up again. “then… you came up as a topic of conversation.” his ears almost perk up, and he faces you once more.
“yea. and sarah said you guys were… still talking. and she said you still seemed interested in her.”
he almost sounds appalled, shocked that anyone would even make that assumption. “i don’t even talk to her, why would she lie?” he mumbles, shaking his head. you make a small noise, agreeing.
he shakes his head. “we ended that highschool fling. i don’t have anything against her, but i don’t hold any feelings for her either.” he admits softly. you almost squeal giddily in excitement. maybe you still had a chance?
“plus, there’s someone else i like.” oh.
“yeah? who do you like?” you look up at him, a little frown on your lips. he looks back, smiling in contrast to your sad face.
“she’s next to me.” you had to take a few seconds, gears turning in your head. “oh… oh!” you yelp, eyes wide as you turn your body towards his. he laughs, a blush on his cheeks. you didn’t expect that he’d ever confess to you, especially not so suddenly like this.
“so, you don’t need to worry about any sarah bugging you about me. i only like you.”
