You are worthy

Hello friends, I have taken a break from my studies to address something that is so, so important and that has truly affected me lately.

The world has lost three high-profile individuals since June 5th. That is not okay. An epidemic is at our doors and we need to do something to stop this.

If you or anyone you know is struggling, please, please, please seek help. There are resources available to you.

If anything, these past few days can teach us that MENTAL HEALTH DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE. It affects rich and poor, famous or not, people of all colours and all nationalities. You are not alone. You are needed in this world. You are irreplaceable to us.

By listening, speaking out and actively encouraging others to seek professional help, we can help prevent some of these horrible tragedies.

Suicide is not selfish or ‘the easy way out’. It is what people do when they are so engulfed in darkness that they can see nothing beyond it. All we need is to provide a little chink of light, a little hope for the future.

Please be alert when loved ones, friends or strangers display some of these signs. Be attentive. Do not dismiss things. Listen carefully. Direct them to where they can access professional help. Sometimes all you need is someone to provide five minutes of their time.

We have a long way to go as a society, but I believe we can change this tide.
