“Pretty often, yeah,” you agree, “I think they just don’t sleep at all during the day - there’s a telescope up on the roof, they do some sort of astronomy research and stuff.” You don’t really get the point of looking at the stars when most of your species can just visit them, really, but you’re pretty sure Taylor’s work is important if they get fleet contracts for their star maps.

“It’s alright, though. You’re supposed to just sort of…” you move on, and carefully lean over to ring the service bell. Taylor mumbles something incomprehensible, and then sits up, blinking at the two of you blearily.

They yawn, and you head a quiet pop. “Mm. Heya, Kit. Heya…” They pause, and fail to recognize Luisan. “- Hi. What’ll it be tonight?”

You are suddenly aware that you’re still holding Luisan’s hand, and you grin, nearly bouncing in place. You’re probably more excited than you’ve been in a while to order something - they offered to pay for you! Nobody ever pays for you, and - really, you pay for folks all the time, and it’s just what friends do, you figure, but you never thought about anyone paying for you, and that’s such a friendly gesture on their part, you’re probably going to treasure this cup of tea more than you should. Except - oh, you sort of wanted to get a pastry (or three) along with it, since you haven’t eaten lunch yet, but Luisan’s only ordering tea and it would be rude to order a lot and then eat in front of them. That’s fine - you can eat later.

Your eyes follow Kit's hand curiously as he reaches toward the bell. What an unusual way of getting service! Perhaps such an interesting café should have an equally eccentric owner... but oh, don't they have any other workers? If only you could judge whether or not the drinks made by this troll are worth such trouble. Kit seems to think so.

His excitement when you say you'll treat him is unmistakable and gratifying, adding to your hopes that he'll agree to treat you in return. Not that he should do such a thing out of a sense of obligation! No, no, you don't want that. But he seems like a nice enough troll that he ought to think of it on his own—one good turn deserves another, does it not?

Both Taylor and Kit's eyes fall on you after Kit orders his 'usual,' and you're caught between feeling the pressure to order something you really don't want and feeling pleased that Kit really didn't mean any assumptions when he called you 'sir' earlier. You flash a smile at Taylor, and then let go of Kit's hand so you can take your wallet out of your pocket. "Yes—I will have your best white tea, s'il vous plait."
