The Morphin’Millennial

In the midst of some writers block with my original novel, I performed an exercise by playing with a Dex/Billy ship fic premise. I wiiiiiiishhhh this is what I wrote about for Memories last year, but anyway... here it is.

WORKING TITLE: STARGAZE

The pitch:

Stargaze is a canon-divergent MM romance in the shared universe of Masked Rider and Power Rangers. November ‘96 marked the end of the former and the finale of the latter’s fourth season, and we are exploring a “what if” between Billy Cranston and Dex Stewart.

Specifically, we’re looking at their respective crossroads: Billy is ready to move on from Aquitar following his age-reversal, and Dex is set to inherit the throne after Lexian’s passing. But ruling over war-torn Edenoi is a fate the young prince is desperate to defer, and the former Blue Ranger might just be the one to give him the reprieve he seeks.

THE PROBLEM FOR BILLY:

Who am I now? That’s the question on Billy Cranston’s mind. No longer a Ranger and no longer the power team’s advisor, Billy is searching for purpose. College seems like the obvious choice, but after seeing distant planets and inventing a literal flying car, school feels pedestrian for the interplanetary genius. So then… what’s next?

THE PROBLEM FOR DEX:

I have the life I didn’t know I wanted—which sums up everything Dex Stewart is feeling. A new family, an idyllic neighborhood, and track team captain—all on borrowed time. Now that royal duty calls, Dex feels caught between two lives—the one assigned to him and the one he built. Which life will he choose?

I imagine Billy and Dex would have a chance meeting somewhere, and they'd bond over feeling lost in uncertainty, birthing a doomed from the start romance before destiny would pull Dex away.

It's still superheroes.

It's still gay.

And it's still salaciousness when it needs to be.

But there are other themes involved, themes I didn't know were there all along but now promoted to the front.

Manifesting good things here as I write, but the ultimate goal? A streamer picks it up. I want this thing to be a THING. My crown jewel.

So we’re fucked.

Read a lot.

There’s a peace in no longer participating in writing platforms. Peace in what, or from what? Well… the democratization and social-media’ing (?) of writing is not for me. Because it’s a joy killer. The entitlement of readers demanding warnings and tags is bonkers—it’s the enemy of wonderment and vulnerability. Worse, readers who get mad at authors if things don’t go their way—it’s just weird. When did everyone become insufferable? Why the fuck would I wanna write for them if that’s how it is now?

Writing was never meant to be this way. For the longest time, authors simply wrote and published. Then, you’d find something to read by browsing book shelves or getting recommended something. That’s it. It’s simple. It works.

-Filming will NOT begin in April , focus will be pre production ONLY.

-No one has been cast yet

-Casting not expecting to begin until Summer

-Delay has many reasons, Script Rewrites, Percy Jackson production taking longer than initially expected.

-Show is still a priority for 20th Century, Jonathan and Dan but they’re not going to rush anything.

-Current draft is still a reboot about a new team of rangers getting powers past down from an original team from the past. While dealing with a mind shifting curse. (As i first reported a year ago)

-Lastly I’m not saying anything other scoopers reported isn’t accurate and I don’t want you guys to feel that way either. Apart of the game of reporting things early is there’s always a chance and a risk of things changing. Most of us are just messengers from trusted sources and that’s okay.
