Romeo Void - “Myself To Myself” Particularly effective amongst many recipes of post-punk alchemy: crossing the eviscerating intensity of Patti Smith with the coke-numb alienation of Debbie Harry, both in lyrical content and vocal delivery. A fine example of this heady elixir is on display on Romeo Void’s debut, It’s A Condition, courtesy of previously art-schooling Native American Debora Iyall, a rhythm section intent on underplaying in deference to the beat, a guitarist who really liked Bush Tetras, and easily one of the most listenable (i.e. tolerable) saxophones in history. Upon it’s favorable release in July 1981, the record caught the ear of someone on The Cars’ tour bus, and then in turn the ear of Ric Ocasek, who seduced the band to Boston to produce the Never Say Never twelve-inch single, which was released in January 1982 and is undoubtedly how you first heard of Romeo Void. It’s how Columbia Records first heard of Romeo Void too, so convinced they were they’d found the next Blondie (is that ever not a mistake when you think something is the next other something?) that they bought the band’s entire label (415 Records) in order to neuter and then re-release the smash hit. Romeo Void had two more LP releases and one more hit single (1984’s “A Girl in Trouble”) before calling it a day. Romeo Void - “Never Say Never” (original 12” version) via YouTube

“Band set for international fame at show in Denmark”, so read the headline! “Wow”, my reaction should have read! Alas, reading my local newspaper, it didn’t warrant such excitement. Trust me, live where I do for as long as I have and feelings eventually wash out of you for such hyperbole.

Cheers for the comment! Feel free to post them to anyone with decent taste in music! And to comment on the rest! I'd love to hear your opinion! x
You are very welcome. It is a privilege to share wonderfully meticulous assemblages of words. Thank you so much for the kind reply, and I will certainly try to write more.

Insomnia, a bottle of red and a double bill of Goodnight Sweetheart (don’t ask, alright, it was just on!) later, I came across one of many television appearances of the increasingly ubiquitous Nick Grimshaw. Surely I wasn’t so under slept to find him cocky and arrogant? On top of his ignorance and...
I agree with this article 100%, but I will say what Mark didn't say. The reason why strip mining the culture of 80's stings so much, is because, quite frankly, it marginalizes those of us whose lives developed that culture. It is not homage, because most of it is hollow. This generation, one day, will certainly know how this feels.
P.S. I also believe NMtB was given new life by sexy-floppy-haired-why-won't-he-gay-marry-me-Amstel.

I just found my favorite picture of Kurt Cobain that I ripped off a magazine when I was 12….what a perfect thing to find through all the crap I call my things. I should seriously clean my room more often.
------------------
This is a great picture of Kurt Cobain.
On this day in 1996, Kurt Cobain, lead singer of the seminal grunge rock band Nirvana, shot himself in the head at his home in Seattle. An electrician who had arrived to install a security system, initially believing Cobain was asleep, discovered the body on April 8. "I haven't felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing . . . for too many years now", where Cobain's last words he had written on a suicide note.
Heroin and traces of Valium were found in Cobain’s body.
"Eddie Izzard: Live From Madison Square Garden" is streaming on Netflix, and is amazing. I aspirated my own tears of laughter at one point. So: highly recommended. Very excited.
This song "Love Parasite" is the fourth track off of Fad Gadget's 1982 album Under the Flag.
Today is the anniversary of Frank Tovey's death. Tovey suffered from heart problems since his childhood, and died of a heart attack on April third in 2002. He was only 45. He is survived by a wife, a daughter, a son, an unfinished album, and all the people he changed with his art.

This song, "The New West", is the first track of Brooklyn based goth neofolk band Cult of Youth's self titled album. Their self titled album,SBR-047, was released on the Brooklyn based label Sacred Bones Records.
Cult of Youth began as a series of home recordings by the band's founder, Sean Ragon. Ragon’s solo Cult of Youth project made two releases on the then unknown Dais Records. The early recordings become a popular as a rallying cry against the tired cultural irony and lo-fi slacker mentality that was ever present in the hipster fueled independent music at the time. Ragon soon added more folks to the band: Micki Pellerano on bass, Glenn Maryanski on drums, and Christiana Key on the violin.
Ragon not only croons and writes great lyrics but he also runs a vintage record store, Heaven Street Records, and recently started Blind Prophet Records.
This is a band to keep an eye on.

This song, "StarFighter Pilot", appeared on Snow Patrol's 1998 debut album, Songs for Polarbears. This album met medicore success during it's initial release, but it eventually went gold after a re-release.
Remember when Snow Patrol wasn't effectivly a solo project? We do.
Today is Mark McClelland's 34th birthday! McClelland started Snow Patrol with Gary Lightbody back in 1994 when they were at Uni together at Dundee. McClelland was credited as co-composer for all the albums up until Lightbody lost his blob and ousted him after their appropriatly titled 2004 ablum, Final Straw. McClelland was also credited with playing bass, guitar and keyboard on many Snow Patrol albums.
Mark McClelland's influence can certainly be heard on Snow Patrol's earlier albums. It is obvious that Snow Patrol has lost the McClelland edginess and now just sounds like any other "alternative band" with cleanly overly seperated but distrorted guitars.
McClelland's new band Little Doses is quite good. Little Doses features McClelland's distorted edgy bass driven sound and the vocal stylings of his hot girlfriend Kirsten Ross.
If you are lurking about Edinborough in the begining of April, Little Doses will be at Haddow Fest.

This song "Friends of Mr. Cairo" was the first track on the second album that came out of the collaboration between Jon Anderson (fromerly of YES) and Vangelis. The album, also named The Friends of Mr. Cario, was released in 1981 on the Polydor label. The title song hit #1 for five weeks on the Canadian singles. The second edition of the album, which was released only fews weeks after the initial release includes the single "I'll Find My Way Home", and had different album cover.
I only own the vinyl of the second edition.
Today is Vangelis' 68th birthday. Happy Birthday Vangelis! Vangelis, born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou in Greece, is a very prolific composer best known for his Academy Award winning score for the film Chariots of Fire, and scores for the films Blade Runner and Conquest of Paradise.
Blade Runner, especially the score, and Gary Numan's Replicas changed my life (both based on or inspired by one of my favorite books, Phillip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?).
Vangelis was one of the early pioneers that made the Syntheziser into a real instrument that could be used in mainstream music and even to compose whole film scores.
Vangelis is one of my heroes.
This song, "Tarzan Boy" was the 1985 debut single for the Italian based new wave band Baltimora. The song was lifted from their first single Living in the Background. The band was very successful, but is internationally known for their one huge hit.
Baltimoria's lead singer, James McShane died today in 1995 from AIDS related illnesses.
----------------------------------
From Wikipedia:
McShane was born on May 23, 1957, in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
McShane learned from a young age to play bass and guitar, and showed great talent for dancing. He made his debut playing in small clubs in his hometown and was presented to various audiences, without great success. McShane came from a humble family and conservative, so had to deal with rejection from his family when he revealed his homosexuality. In view of his low artistic success, McShane decided to work as emergency medical technician for the Red Cross in Ireland until he met Bassi whom together created Baltimora.
In 1994 he decided to settle in Milan, where he was diagnosed with the AIDS virus, which McShane stayed only a few months. He returned to Ireland after, where he decided to spend the last years of his life.
He died in his native Londonderry on 29 March 1995 at the age of 37 years.
This song Decay is off of Twice a Man's 1982 debut full length album, Music For Girls.
In 1981 the Electro punk group Cosmic overdose reformed as Twice a man and became one of the first entirely electronic band in Sweden. Dan Söderqvist & Karl Gasleben initially created reasonably accessible dark wave/synthpop songs, but with time they progressed into more experimental & ambient domains. During the 90's the band became more of a project group, composing music for film, dance and theatre performances, audio books and computer games.
