Blog where I chatter about FL and (hopefully) my pcs. I've been playing on and off since December 2015. Presently I have:
Silverer, Axile enthusiast - Heart's Desire - my main of many years. Enigmatic, complicated. Slippery to pin down.
Correspondent, Seeker (completed, turned back, still a Seeker) - Bag a Legend and (fingers crossed) Discordance - I've had the account since 2021 but they only recently started gelling as a character so they're fairly new! Will likely post about them the most as I get to know them.
Licentiate - Nemesis - not yet a character, an account made on a foolhardy whim to get to the Mr Mirrors and Mr Cups content, before I looked at the wiki guide and realized It's Gonna Take Awhile.
Some of my favorite FL things are identity/memory horror, unreality, and how non-humans are written. I've got a lot of thoughts about SMEN, so you can expect those. In general I am a horror enthusiast and like when there's a bit of sour and bitter in the flavor mix.

looking for Artfight targets and it occurs to me I could make a Spider Council oc/design. There is nothing stopping me. Maybe after I'm done with my Masters designs and taking a stab at moon-misers (I also have thoughts re: the Hybrid but moon-misers take precedence). Using FL as an excuse to get more creature design experience.
I also want to do some Correspondence/Discordance sigil dev but that's off topic (I may at some point open a post asking for sigil prompts or making sigils for pcs based on a description).
Direly need to remember I can use the dash and check out my mutual's blogs. Also that not every post has to be serious!! You can liveblog, you can make dumb jokes.
Working on a game jam this month but I also do hope to work on some Artfights! [here's my profile] Could be fun to do more of these
but who knows, I might need a break from pixeling since the game uses pixel art too. I guess we'll see!
Well, besides a joke on creating The Worst Cat Imaginable, a starveling cat is a cat who has become infected by Mr Eaten. My personal theory on how this happens is one part Curiosity Killed The Cat, and one part Natural Risk From Protecting Dreamers.
Cats come and go through Parabola freely, and it is their duty to protect dreamers. Typically from their sworn enemies, the Fingerkings, but there are other threats such as the Red-Handed Queen and Mr Eaten.
Mr Eaten is constantly urging dreamers to go NORTH and, if you're unfortunate enough to contract Unaccountably Peckish, some other, far more specific mysteries. It would be natural for cats to end up caught in the same web that humans do.
Per the Esurient Smith's research text for Glass Gazettes, we also know somewhere in Parabola there is... something deeply significant to Mr Eaten. Perhaps a reflection of The Well. Perhaps Winking Isle.
We may never know what exactly, and the author of the text may not have meant anything specific either. But for a creature more attuned to wandering the dream wilds, it's not beyond reason a cat could have made the pilgrimage.
The starveling cat is also very likely suffering from Unaccountably Peckish, which contributes to its bad temper. It is the best source for UP as a Seeker, granting you +3 if you consult it in the Flit and granting +1 if you pass the cat to a friend.
What does this mean for the starveling cat?
I think if starveling cats are cats who became infected or otherwise "fell" to Mr Eaten, they are treated as some mix of traitors, deserters, and plaguebearers by their kin. A source of shame and fear, to be shunned. Cats are not supposed to fall in this manner, and they especially aren't meant to imperil dreamers on behalf of a vengeful ghost.
Stains on your Soul?
No idea what horrible thing starveling cats do to stain a soul. It's the only part of Seeking that explicitly requires one. A necessary step before pursuing the candles. From a meta perspective, it's another warning on the cost of Seeking, and another way your character is marked (forever, if you don't want to spend Fate). From a lore perspective, there are some options on why this must be done:
To deter devils
To spite Judgements. I imagine a stained soul tastes awful
To exert ownership
A kind of preparation, perhaps necessary to become a candle
More secrets embedded in the Seeker's person
Starveling cats are too small to become candles themselves (and possibly a bit more sensible than their human counterparts). Even if they could become a candle, there is no need to when you can send a human to do it for you. Though personally I think most cat's expect Seekers to fail. A pc who makes it NORTH with all the candles is the exception, not the rule.
The starveling cat! The starveling cat!
Upon your soul it did spat!
Why oh why would it do that!?
Because it's a sick fuck and wants to see what happens. (Or it's an unnatural compulsion from being metaphysically cursed, in which one cannot easily escape, not even in one's dreams. Seekers are textually Mad, and there is no reason to think a cat's immune.)

AND IT IS DONE. Finished this big hunk of a project. Not the biggest mass attack ever, but it's bigger than anything I'm used to lol.
I actually had an idea fairly early on of drawing a bunch of Seekers at a morbid dinner party, so I scoured art fight for all the Seekers I could, grabbed Sims to get some poses (which went about as well as you could expect), and got to work.
From left to right;
Sage "Pitforth" Blackburn, @marrowkind
Caeru Komisk, @thegreatyin
Sibyl Bierce, yours truly
Arthur Blackwell, @thespiderwhisperer
Bertrand Palomo, @allthestarsdevoured
Laila Keller, @vulpine-gentleman
He wasn't in art fight this year so I couldn't officially attack him, but I did include @anannoyanceofjackofsmiles' Seeker Augustus as a cameo.
Now of course, most of these characters aren't Seekers anymore. In fact I'm pretty sure only Sibyl and Laila are curently seeking. But since everyone has sought the name, I figured it would be alright to include them.
To thespiderwhisperer, I do apologize for making Arthur the one who had to stand in the back. For what it's worth, you can see in the front he has a chair pulled out for him! And another chair for a certain guest of honor who sadly couldn't attend.
I couldn't exactly make any of them pose for eating, but I assure you they were likely only waiting for Arthur to join them. As soon as everyone was sat that table got DESTROYED. As in, someone literally ate the table.
Anyway hope you all enjoy this art! I really did have fun drawing all of your characters.
Oh and lyrics at the top are from a fansong called The Seeker's Lament by Jan Počarovský.
Feverishly bangs out a ref for my Fallen London oc in preparation for Artfight. It turns out the secret to doing a turnaround is to have a character design that warrants it.
I had a lot of fun designing the Weeping Scars even if they're a fair bit deviating from canon. The longer winding scars is because the rind peeling imagery in Seeking Mr Eaten's Name stuck with me.
Mr Eaten spurred their interest in the Correspondence, which turned out to be their calling due to their language and conceptualization aptitude. They will turn back, to kill a certain someone. The Discordance is in their future, which I am excited about. A reckoning will not be postponed indefinitely.
Another artfight ref for my Fallen London main. Regrettably only had time for one outfit, but at least it's a fun one.
A silverer pursuing the Heart's Desire ambition, curiosity is a chief motivator and weakness. What will they wish for should they win? Truthfully, they have not considered that; they just wanted to see what would happen. They have a keen interest in all things Axile and hold a deep respect for Shapelings.
Lorelei is enigmatic and hard to describe. Their identity is fractured and malleable. They are many things, with many connections.
