Mirea: Actually? It’s been going according to plan! I’ve been steadily winning him over with my puns. Mission: Friend is proceeding well.

Hau: Keep telling yourself that. Your puns are... eh.

Mirea: Oh hush. You know they’re good. He’s stopped facepalming.

Hau: …

Mirea: You wanna hear a few of the ones I’ve used so far?

Hau: Not-

Mirea: The incredible conclusion to Icepix: Ninetaiga.

Hau: Alright, that one’s pretty clever.

Mirea: Crimer and Mukrystal.

Hau: Nevermind.

Mirea: You can’t hide that grin from me! They are funny. I’ve just started on the Geodude line too, with… Diodude.

Hau: Oh man. [snickering]

Mirea: The next two I’ll be telling Gladion are Gravelectric, and then Gol-E.M.P.

Hau: Ahaha, by the Tapus, that’s awful. I wish I could be there to see his face.

Mirea: Hey, that’s not a bad idea! You could tag along to watch the next match.

Hau: Is that allowed? Just as a spectator?

Mirea: Huh? Oh, uh, nothing in particular.

Mirea: Um, on Poke Pelago?

Hau: Hm, that name sounds familiar…

Mirea: Yeah, probably, I mean he is the guy running the place. You’ve probably picked up the name from someone mentioning it.

Mirea: That was a good battle, you got a minute?

Gladion: …I guess.

Mirea: Good, good, I just wanted to ask you something. Sit down on the steps with me for a sec.

Gladion: Okay?

Mirea: Right, so I’ve been asking this from some of my Challengers recently because I got curious - why do you want to win?

Gladion: What? You mean against you?

Mirea: Yeah, why you wann be Champion, I just wanna know if you know, y’know? I didn’t at first, so don’t worry if you can’t come up with an answer right away.

Gladion: Hm.

Mirea: Hey, you want a malasada while you think? Hau dumped a box of them on me, and I don’t think I can eat them all, even after battling here.

Gladion: Alright, I guess I could eat.

Mirea: Great! [pause] You talked to Lillie recently?

Gladion: I thought you were waiting for me to come up with an answer. But yes, I spoke with her yesterday. She was complaining about some jokes you made, actually.

Mirea: …Uh, she mentioned that? She, um, didn’t tell you what they were, right?

Gladion: No, she told me she’d spare me the ‘awful details’. How on earth did you make her so angry?

Mirea: Apparently, she isn’t a fan of puns.

Gladion: Who is?

Mirea: …I am offended. Puns are an art and I work very hard on mine.

Gladion: …

Mirea: So you know about the Alola forms of Pokemon here? Well, I thought I’d try to liven up the names of those Pokemon to better reflect the differences they show to their Kantonian relatives.

Gladion: You’re going to say them, aren’t you?

Mirea: Okay, listen, Icepix.

Gladion: …

Mirea: Stunned by how great that was, I see.

Gladion: Not exactly.

Mirea: Oh c’mon, it was good. You ready with an answer to my question yet?

Gladion: What? Oh, no. Not yet.

Mirea: Alright, maybe you can come back with one next time.

Gladion: Wait, what about- You’re just, all that build up and… one pun?

Mirea: I made a mistake with Lillie, clearly too much of a good thing at one time is a bad idea. Come back next week and I’ll tell you another.

Gladion: That’s not exactly motivation.

Mirea: Fight me, Gladion.

Mirea: Huh. Tough. Well, I like to use a variety, but I guess if I had to pick… Fairy. I like the Z-Move dance for it.

Hau: Fairy? Fairy ‘nough.

Mirea: [Snorts] Ha! Classic. What would you pick? I mean, when you become a Kahuna, you’ll have to pick one.

Do you have any ideas for which Pokemon/other character you want to do a blog for? I recommend going for one of yor favourites, one you feel happy to draw a whole bunch of times in different poses and such.

Like, I went for Mimikyu because it’s one of my favourite Gen 7 ‘mons, and it’s fairly simple - basically two blobs stacked on top of each other with extra details! I went for the sketchy look because I just find it easier and more fun to do it that way. Yes, have fun drawing your character/s!

It was also a good pick for me because of the whole dressing-up thing - I get to play around with that and excercise my creativity. Pokemon fusions and such would probably be the equivalent there if you ever get interested in that angle.

Don’t worry about the level of skill you have - starting up a blog and drawing more and more is going to help you improve immensely if you’re not 100% confident as to where you stand. Trying to improve how I draw humanoid characters as well as grabbing the opportunity to draw out some of my headcanons is how this blog got started!

If someone else already has a blog for the Pokemon you want? No problem! The more the merrier! I can think of at least two other Mimikyu blogs and we all bring something different to the table.

Even if you have a ‘Daily’ blog, don’t feel obligated to stick to that schedule if it will burn you out. Also feel free to ignore/delete/sit on asks you don’t feel like answering. I have quite a few that I want to do at the back of my inbox, but the inspiration hasn’t struck me right for them yet.

Some people create a specific ‘character’ (or set of characters) for their blogs (obviously if you’re specifically an ask blog you’ve probably got a specific character there to answer questions!). Some just draw without thinking about characters. I enjoy having my five Mimikyus to bounce off each other, and same for this blog where I think including Hau and the others is better than if I just had Mirea answering by herself.

Mirea: The man needs a nap.

Hau: Who?

Mirea: I’m like, 80% sure he was sleep-deprived and put an extra zero on the paycheck. I mean, the extra Beast Balls are payment enough, right?

Hau: Paycheck?

Mirea: I’m a multimillionnaire in assets now, Hau. You want a Kartana? I have four. I could probably buy Hau’oli City with this one Beast Ball.

Hau: Wait, what?!

Mirea: Yeah, anyway, Looker was cool, if a bit… frantic? I mean, I get why, but it was a little concerning. Eh, I hope I get to work with the International Police again, it was fun!

Mirea: Okay, fine!

Mirea: I keep Miasma under my hat. Did you know that Mimikyus can create, like, pocket dimensions at will? Like Acerola’s Totem made the back room appear and disappear.

Hau: Wait, really? The room disappeared?

Mirea: Yeah. It was creepy and Ace denied everything. Anyway, you know how I no longer carry my bag…

Hau: Yeah? …WAIT! You keep everything in your hat?!

Mirea: Frustratingly? Not enough. That kid is-

Hau: What do you mean ‘kid’ he’s a year older than us?

Mirea: -stubborn. You know what I mean, Hau. He’s convinced himself that he doesn’t need anyone, so I don’t know, he’s refusing to acknowledge the opportunity for friendship. I think I need to work on it from the Rivals angle…

Hau: Uh oh, you have a plan.

Mirea: I’m gonna need a box of malasadas and four months of puns.

Hau: Aue, you know malasadas don’t last that long?

Mirea: I’m going to find that list I read to Lillie.

I might change my art style for this blog to this. :B

I have a much easier time drawing with looser/sketchier lines and... actual eyes to work with lol.

Mirea: OH, that’s what we’re going to find out now! As soon as Lillie calls, we’ll know.

Hau: I’m so excited! What are the first Pokemon from Kanto?

Mirea: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Sometimes Pikachu or Eevee.

Hau: Oh, I wonder which one Lillie is going to choose!

[Video-call device begins to beep.]

Mirea: Aah! That’s her!

Hau: Quick, quick, answer it!

[Clicking noise.]

Lillie: Mirea! Hau! Alola!

Mirea and Hau: Alola, Lillie!

Hau: So what did you-

Mirea: C’mon tell us which-

Hau: -choose as your partner?!

Mirea: -starter did you pick?!

Lillie: [Reaches down off-camera.]

[Suspense builds.]

Lillie: You two… meet Bulbasaur!

Hau: Oh wow! Congratulations, Lillie!

Mirea: Hi there li’l guy! Aw, what a sweetie.

Lillie: I’m a real Pokemon trainer now! I can’t wait to get out there and start my adventure for real. I’m going to wait until Mother’s treatments are finished first, though.

Hau: Oh, yeah, how’s that going?

Lillie: Pretty well so far! She’s already acting so much more like her old self… it’s nice.

Mirea: Hopefully she’ll be okay and you can set off soon!

Mirea and Hau: Nebby.

Mirea: Though if I had to pick another, I’d love to meet Dialga.

Mirea: Acerola for both. I like her.

Hau: I guess you could say that she’s… Ace!

Mirea: Ahahaha! Good one, Hau!

Hau: I liked the Water one. The scenery there was amazing.

Mirea: What? I still haven’t forgiven Lana for tricking me!

Hau: Really?

Mirea: I was there to do the trial! Girl, you don’t have to lure me in! I’m here to take on your fish anyway just let me be prepared!

Hau: Did… did you not see the trial gate?

Mirea: …No!

Hau: [splutters and laughing]
