I’ve been walking the same stretch of rocky beach down the way asking to find heart rocks. In the past, whether they would immediately pop right out from their camouflaged company or would eventually dissolve into sight, I would be given my little sign. My ‘I got you’ from beyond. ⁣ ⁣ It might sound silly, but it’s been bugging me that I haven’t come across any lately. As if the universe was saying: the line is busy now, try again later. But hello, can you hear me? Are you saying that you don’t like my plan? Or that it isn’t clear? Show me some love!⁣ ⁣ As we entered this new year, I started to make a more concerted effort in paying attention to things I love. I had shelved any significant writing for awhile and the reasons why have been a little tricky to unpack. But as I pulled out some old pieces and started to rework them, the cracks of light started shining through. I remembered a time when words came pretty easily and were pretty good quality too, and I was pretty pleased that I could give myself that recognition and reassurance without self doubt or fear of judgement. I am practicing daily pages again and signed up for classes just to shake things loose and scratch at the edges I can’t always reach. Been drumming up mini stories. Continuing to read memoirs and novels and poetry and self help. And oooh the podcasts. Meditating daily again (I never get too far away from the practice, but daily can be hit or miss) and I’m spending time outside even when I desperately want to hide inside because of the cold. Stretching and yoga. Volunteering. Planning travel. Diffusing essential oils. Salt lamp and vitamin D lamp sessions. Vitamins and supplements. Cleaning and sorting and minimizing. Connecting. Being present. Remembering to breathe.⁣ ⁣ Being self critical and feeling judged are things I’ve worked to recognize and shed, but still somehow recently I have felt smaller and quieter. “Hold nothing back” spoke right to my core from John O’Donahue’s poem I posted on the morning of the New Year. There’s just this one wild and precious life, and it’s about to get bigger. Yesterday the universe showed me - heart rocks galore. Oh, and a hawk cruised on by. I️ saw one of those most stunning sunsets in recent memory today as I️ came through the Mojave Desert on the way back from Vegas. Laura used to talk about missing the “big sky” in Colorado when she moved to MA, and I️ didn’t understand until I️ went to the Rockies with her to see it for myself. The sky in California and Nevada feels the same way. So big, so much to behold. This picture doesn’t even come close to doing it justice, but then, I️ was driving and couldn’t really do better at the moment.
