Thank you, Internets!
I learned a new word today thanks in part to my random enjoyment of our world of wide webs. "Rhinotillexomania" is the technical word used to describe obsessive nose picking.

When the family can't afford to visit the more established amusement parks...
To think of it as news requires a staggering narcissism, something like the opposite of empathy wherein Other People, those who are Not Us, somehow cease to exist or to live when we are not directly interacting with them.

Maybe the ultimate example of this sleight-of-hand tactic is his pastoral letter on Referendum 74, Washington’s referendum on marriage equality, in which [Archbishop-designate Cupich] bizarrely urged voters to reject the 'redefinition of marriage' by spending much of the letter praising the compassion and conviction that motivates gay-marriage advocates. The result he desires, of course, is still the same: second-class status and ongoing stigma for same-sex partners.

This has led to a bizarre paradox: The Creationist with an iPhone or respectively the Anti-Vaxxer in a Prius. Utilizing science and all its comforts and advances, while being selectively skeptical about what science actually has to offer. Using technology to deny science takes some skilled compartmentalizing. It’s saying you have faith in science enough to post cat gifs on Facebook but not enough for science to contradict your convictions. There was a time when we thought the Information Superhighway would make everyone more informed, better educated. Instead its enabled the misinformed to find places to permanently nestle in confirmation bias. Misery loves company—as does ignorance.

How many people wake up and ask themselves, “I wonder what Dick Cheney and Henry Kissinger think about Isis?” Outside of a few TV bookers, absolutely no one does – but with war on the horizon, the nation’s most awful surviving warmongers get to go back on the television circuit and address members of Congress, explaining that, if we just drop a few more bombs, it’ll actually work this time! (Unlike all the other times.)
Thanks to this wall-to-wall fear mongering, a once war-weary public is now terrified. More than 60% of the public in a recent CNN poll now supports airstrikes against Isis. Two more polls came out on Tuesday, one from the Washington Post and the other from NBC New and the Wall Street Journal, essentially concluding the same thing. Most shocking, 71% think that Isis has terrorist sleeper cells in the United States, against all evidence to the contrary.

Kenny Loggins recently seen on pierogi. (Danger Zone!)
I know I say this all the time, but no public school is teaching (nor should they) that students should stop believing in God. Removing 'under God' from the Pledge of Allegiance keeps things neutral, while reciting the phrase 'One nation, under no God' would be advocating atheism. There’s a difference. Bald isn't a hair color, off isn't a TV channel, and neutrality isn't the promotion of atheism.

Charisma needs to take this column down, apologize and repent. And everyone there who touched this — solicited it, approved it, failed to resign in protest over the idea of it — needs to be fired. Twice.

Growing up, I received one of her records as a Christmas or birthday gift. Imagine an evangelical female version of Alvin the Chipmunk.
I wasn't put off by the movie simply because it celebrated the Evangelical variety of the Christian faith, for that's my own cultural heritage; I know it like I know the back of my own hand. And I wasn't put off simply because the quality of the writing and directing was so very bad (although, believe me, it was). What upset me most was how routinely terrible they made the atheists in the movie, and how badly they misrepresented a people group which the makers of the movie clearly have never tried to understand.

California parents are deciding against vaccinating their kindergarten-age children at twice the rate they did seven years ago, a fact public health experts said is contributing to the reemergence of measles across the state and may lead to outbreaks of other serious diseases.
That's precious. I wonder how I can get a personal exemption against infection when one of these little darlings starts the next (completely preventable) plague.
The germ theory of disease is just a theory, right?
