I wrote this one a WHILE ago this one is not new to any capacity
Rob sat down next to Richard. Richard didn't hear him walk up, much less sit down. He only noticed Rob was there because Rob put his hand on Richard's.
“You ok? You've been avoiding me the past hour or so.”
Richard ducked his head. Rob hadn't seen the black eye. Maybe if Rob didn't see it, they didn't have to talk about it. “Yeah. I'm fine.”
“Let me see.”
Oh. He knew. “How did you-”
“Genna said you two were fighting. She sees everything, you have to stop being shocked when I find out you got in a fight.”
“It doesn't hurt that bad.”
“Mm. Let me see.”
Richard turned his head. He wouldn't look Rob in the eyes, he didn't want to see Rob upset.
“He got you good this time. You're bleeding.”
“Am I?”
“Yeah, you got a cut… Right here.”
Rob put his hand on Richard's face and lightly tapped a cut, wiping some of the blood off. “You got to stop thinking you're stronger than him. You're not.”
“I know I'm not.”
“Do you? He keeps beating the shit out of you and you keep letting him.”
“It's fine. I'm fine. I just need to put a bandage on the cut, I'm fine.”
“Rich…”
“I'm fine, Rob.”
Richard put his hand on Rob's and finally looked Rob in the eyes. They sat like that for a moment. “I'm fine.”
Rob moved his hand away from Richard’s face, then turned his head away. Did Richard say something wrong? Was he mad?
“Just be careful, Rich. All I'm asking. Come on, let's go get you patched up.”
Rob stood up, and held his hand out for Richard to follow him.

ROB IS HERE MY BABY I LOVE HIM long story short him and his sister got kidnapped by Richard's pirate crew Pre-Campaign
Rob did choose to stay on the ship though out of his own free will though, he decided it was a faster way to chase leads while looking for his mom
Rob hated this ship. He hated this entire situation. Him and Mara needed to get back to looking for his mom, as soon as possible. They were following a lead. They were close, he could swear on it. But now they were stuck on this stupid fucking ship with this stupid fucking crew. He didn't get upset often, he really could only remember getting truly upset enough times to count out on one hand. But this entire situation was ridiculous. He hadn't even met the captain yet, much less anyone else. Some purple tiefling had let them out of the room and told them to give him a little bit of time a few hours ago, ran off, and Rob hadn't seen him since. So Rob decided to go looking for him. He promised Mara that everything was fine, and that he'd be right back, and he left Mara in the room that they had been locked in. He felt bad leaving her, but he'd rather something happen to him than her. If it came down to that.
As he was walking by a door above deck, he assumed maybe the Captain's quarters, he heard yelling. Muffled yelling, but yelling all the same. He sat and listened for a moment.
“-told me that you'd let them off of the fucking ship. You were supposed to let them off of the fucking ship, Norall. I told you to.”
“Oh, boo hoo. Someone didn't do what you wanted them to do. How bad for you.”
“Oh, go fuck yourself. Now I gotta go tell them what? That you didn't let them off? That they were supposed to leave a while ago?”
The room went silent, and Rob couldn't hear more than some sounds, and then a loud thump. Like someone had just gotten shoved into a wall. He couldn't make out what was being said, just muffled talking. Rob heard footsteps stomping towards the door, and ducked out of sight, just before the door slammed open and an orc exited the room, quickly, but angrily. He left the door open, and Rob peeked his head inside. The tiefling from earlier was standing against the wall, his head in his hands, a dagger in the wall near his head.
“... You ok?” Rob said, quietly. Almost hoping the other man wouldn't hear him and he could just leave. But the tieflings head shot up, locking eyes with Rob. The other man rushed over to the door, stuck his head out to make sure no one else was there, then grabbed Rob's arm and pulled him inside the room, shutting the door behind them. Then he walked back over to the wall, yanking the knife out. Rob jumped, worried that this guy was about to stab him, or threaten him, before the tiefling threw the knife across the room, into a pile of clothes.
“Sorry.” The tiefling said. “I was supposed to be back earlier. But I got caught up. Clearly.”
Then the tiefling stepped over to the desk in the center of the room and sat down on top of it, staring at Rob. “How much did you hear?”
“Enough.”
“Fuck. Ok. Shit- you can't- I need you to promise me you won't tell anyone. You can't tell anyone.”
“Is that guy the captain?”
“No, he's not. He's the first mate though.”
“I bet the captain is a real piece of shit, then.”
“Yeah. He is. Can you promise me, please? You can't say anything about that. Seriously. Please- just don’t- please.”
Rob stared at the man sitting in front of him. He felt… Familiar. Maybe. He couldn't put his finger on it. But he trusted him, for some odd reason.
“Fine. I promise. But the second you give me reason to tell someone, I'm telling my sister.”
“I don't expect anything else. I'm Richard.”
“Robert.”
“Sorry you had to see that, Robert.”
“Sorry you had to deal with that.”
“It's fine. I've been here a long time. Nothing new.”
“I need to get back to my sister.”
“You're good. Stay away from Norall. Ok? He didn't see you, right?”
“No.”
“Good.”
Rob nodded, and then left the room. Richard stared at the door as it shut, and then looked over at the small hole now in the wall from the knife. He'd deal with that tomorrow. For now, he just really hoped Rob didn't tell anyone anything. Because if he did, Richard was fucked.
Rob went back to the room he and Mara were staying in. Mara shot up immediately.
“Is everything ok? Are you ok? Are we leaving soon?”
“Everything's fine. Everything's fine. Just- I don't know. We might need to wait it out for a little bit.”
“Wait it out? On a fucking pirate ship? Are you kidding?”
“Mara, we don't have a choice.”
“What do you mean, we don't have a choice?”
“I mean something's going on, in the crew. I don't know.”
Rob and Mara ended up staying up for a while, and neither of them really slept. Once the crew started stirring and everyone started getting up for the day, Rob and Mara very carefully went up on the deck to see what was going on. Rob saw Richard out on the deck, handing papers to Norall, then climbing up a bit higher than everyone else and yelling.
“Alright, listen up! We have a shipment we need to get down as soon as possible, I've already handed out assignments to those who need them, the rest of you either go to Norall or Navari.”
Odd. Maybe he was in charge of handing out the assignments or something. Rob still hadn't seen anyone… Captain-y. Yet.
Then Rob heard a few people say “Aye aye, Captain”. Oh. Oh no. Richard was the captain, wasn't he. Rob waited until Richard seemed to be done talking, then stormed over to him and hit his shoulder.
“Ow, what- oh. Hi.” That was the guiltiest look Rob has seen.
“You're the fucking captain?” Rob hissed, trying to be quiet.
“Yeah.”
“Why the fuck didn't you say something last night?”
“I don't- I just thought you already- I don't know.”
“Great first impression, idiot.” Then Rob stomped off, back over to Mara. Richard just watched him walk off, completely ignoring anything Norall was currently saying to him.

FIRST EVER FANFICTION POST
Richard is my character in a DND campaign, anything I post is going to be backstory stuff or explicitly stated to be something in the actual canon of the campaign. I'm extremely excited to keep posting fanfiction here, and I'm extremely glad I get to post stuff about Richard and share his and Rob's story wherever I want. Love them both, can't wait to introduce Rob.
All of these are going to be sectioned off by when in the story they happened, but all of my updates will be posted on my Instagram stories.
I know the story is a little confusing right now but there will be more context later on, I promise.
Thank you so much for reading!

Richard hated this ship. He wasn't even supposed to be here anymore. He was supposed to be gone. The plan was supposed to work. But it didn't. And he killed Hawes- he didn't even mean to kill Hawes. He really truly hated Hawes, but he didn't mean to kill him. He didn't want to kill anyone. He just wanted to go home. He didn't even have a home though. Where was he supposed to go, to his parents? His parents, who never looked for him? Never came to get him? He was nine, and they never came for him. Now he was barely 16. And apparently the new captain. Of a ship he wanted to leave.
He was sitting in Hawes’ old room. Some of Hawes’ old stuff was sitting in the corner, along with a few of his guns and weapons. Richard hated it. At least he had his own room, and he wasn't stuck with anyone else. Thank god he wasn't stuck with anyone else, everyone was mad at him. Especially Norall. And Felix. He couldn't be near either of them.
Richard heard a knock. A very loud and very angry knock. He got up from where he was sitting on the floor, wincing. He had a slash across his chest from where Hawes got him with his sword, before- before what happened. Odelia did her best to patch it up, but honestly, Richard was sure she actually just didn't want to deal with it. Richard just ignored it, and cracked open the door a bit. It was Norall. Of course it was Norall.
“Get your ass outside. Now. You have a job to do.”
“I need a minute.”
Norall pushed the door open, knocking Richard back again. “I don't care.”
Norall grabbed Richard's arm and pulled him out on the deck. Richard was used to that, at least. His arm would probably be bruised later, Norall was grabbing him way harder than he needed to, like he was worried Richard was just going to run. Which, honestly, was kind of what Richard was planning on doing if they'd been docked. But they weren't.
He knew the routine. He knew exactly what to do, he'd seen Hawes and Norall do the same routine for the past seven years. Announcements, assign jobs for the day, answer questions, yadda yadda. It was boring, and stupid. But Richard wasn't being assigned jobs anymore, the awful jobs they'd usually assign him to. So that was at least a bonus.
He hated this crew.
A year later, he still did.
He hadn't moved Hawes’ stuff out of his room yet. He just… Couldn't. Couldn't force himself to do it. Hawes was dead. He'd been gone a year. But Richard was still terrified of him. Terrified he'd come back, hurt Richard, yell at him. He was dead though. Richard decided he should at least go through his things. Decide what to get rid of. He pulled around an empty barrel that was lying in the corner of the room, and started tossing Hawes’ stuff inside of it. Old clothes, maps, a journal Richard had flipped through a few times. It was horrible, the stuff inside. Richard never wanted to see it ever again.
After he tossed the journal in, he found Hawes’ old guns. They'd been shoved under some old blankets, and he hadn't seen them until now. The pistol was actually the gun he used. The one he accidentally shot Hawes with. They were nice, Hawes stole them from some poor guy in a port town five years back, he was always talking about how much he loved them. Richard almost tossed them in, along with a knife he found, but hesitated.
Richard ended up tucking the gun into a gun holster he had found, and kept the knife hidden in a pocket. If he had weapons, he might as well use them if needed. And it… Helped. In a way. Knowing that the gun wasn't Hawes’ anymore. It was Richard's. So was the knife. They were his, and his only. Plus, it kept everyone else from taking them, and using them. That was Richard's burden to carry, not anyone else's.
The gun never left Richard's side unless he was sleeping. The knife eventually moved from his pocket to a hidden holster under his shirt. The only one who knew where the knife was was Rob.
