But it's like, you can tell she isn't happy. She couches her loneliness in sarcasm and disregard, but she genuinely doesn't know how to connect to people. When she asks Geist how she does it, the parading around at parties, you can tell she's partway making conversation, partway genuinely curious, and partway trying to connect with Geist on hating socializing.

When she's confronted about her work, she flips to deflection and tries to paint everyone else to be just as immortal as she is. She doesn't want to actually acknowledge her actions. She thinks everyone sucks, she's just "smart" and "aware" enough to know she sucks, but thinks everyone else is deluded.

she absorbs herself in her research and work and ignores everything else, trying not to be a one-hit child star genius that just coasts on her previous achievements. she wants people to take her seriously so bad.

so. the venator. father quinn rourke. on the surface, he seems like a lunatic clergyman who found two to three guns and decided to go ham. he's quite dedicated to his religion of course, he's a staunch believer in god. however, not only should he not be treated like a real catholic (which some people seem to be doing) (I'm not even going to get into the Sodom thing, if you can't tell the difference between the name of a fucking city and a fake crime invented to kill gay people you have no hope), he shouldn't be treated like a valve character either tbh.

he's a Warhammer character.

of course, a much kinder caricature than the one games workshop paints, and following a god we know of already rather than the emperor of mankind, but he's a fucking adeptus astartes. he wields his faith as a torch, to guide others home and to clear out the unwelcome. he also has the room to be kinder, given the god-emperor was always cruel, but if you read the bible as written, old and new testament combined, god as catholics see him is forgiving.

he's not hostile to non-humans. he's hostile to threats. he's mad at seven because he's a threat. he's not mad at abrams because he's blue, he's mad because he has the book. he is downright cheerful when offered the chance to go get a drink with silver. I get that a lot of catholics irl are vectors for harm (trust me, I am aware, personally), but one, deadlock is a fucking fantasy world, two, I'm pretty sure with all his halos venator is meant to be an actual angel walking on earth (or at least marked by one enough to extend grace to the damned). he likes helping people. he fucking likes helping people. god.

At the end of the day, he is a valve character. And his addition is causing harm to parts of the playerbase. I have no doubt that the devs had the best intentions and just wanted to make a cool character that fits well into deadlocks world. Unfortunately that doesn’t change the fact that he is the perfect vessel for the worst kinds of people to project onto and treat people badly. I agree that the devs only intended to use sodom as a bible reference. Doesn’t change the fact that once again, people will use that to be awful to others. Venator does not exist in a vacuum, he exists in our current political climate. I really think that the devs were irresponsible (not malicious) with this one and that hurts my heart.
