So in Kaleidoscope of death that scenario happens almost every arc. They get in trouble => the time limit is almost up => they find a last second option to save themselves. Just as usual.

This time around it seems they're trying to do the same.

Qiushi is running around to find an urgent solution, and you, with your "main couple won't die" attitude, are patiently waiting for that to happen.

Maybe a tool or a clue will fall out from under the floor.

But instead you watch a man running back and forth, trying to figure out how to find a loophole or a help item, and fail. The mind starts to wander to the most unhinged plans it can come up with, but they're not possible.

And so he falls on his knees at the door saying, "You're so smart, please think of something."

NOTHING WORKS.

And you know Nanzhu is not gonna die, and you're still on your toes waiting for a last-second solution.

But no clue fell out of the sky, no brilliant idea came to either of them, and no crazy suicide plan is gonna come to fruition.

In other time he could have covered his loved one from the attack with his own body or thrown that punch to anyone else, but rn, he can't.

RIGHT NOW IT'S JUST A LOCKED ROOM WITH A BOMB. He can't sacrifice himself even if he tried to.

I'm blown away by how natural Qiushi's thought process is under stress, from trying to solve it with artifacts that are useless, to just emotionally trying to break down the door, to the risky gamble of opening all the drawers at once, to the "I'd rather be eaten before he is so i don't have to experience this" thought, to "what if i kill everyone so the door world would protect you" which JUST came out of desperation and even if he decided to, he couldn't.

And yet the other people?? They are standing there and they don't give a fuck? Kinda.

It's your own personal tragedy to deal with, that they will just watch and sometimes try to sympathise with. "Oh oh, how unfortunate, anyway"

Just like us, when minor characters lose someone, we've watched their grief with pity or indifference. You know it feels different when you're on the other side of a tragedy, even if it is common in door world.

Quichi knew that and tried to sell them the "if she dies, there's no key and no way out" but i personally didn't felt like anybody gave a fuck anyways for some reason?

The clock is ticking, time is running out, but there is no solution, and you can feel that sense of helplessness: you can't really do anything else.

"I thought we had plenty of time."

Go on and try to accept that you knew something like this was going to happen and you said "I don't care, I want to live today and be with you" and then it really happened.

Lastly, it ended in SILENCE, no effects to show that the fucker used the ability, the room didn't venture into a black hole or anything, it just went silent.

Yeah, of course you've known all along that he wasn't dead, that would be stupid. And yeah, he's not dead, obviously. And Qiushi wasn't really grieving in part.

But still emotions for this scene are staged SO WELL it plays gorgeously the "we can't fuck around and find out our way out of this one" idea and personally this sequence left me traumatized about this very thing.
