Let’s talk about a few things:

1) In the first gif, right after Kara says goodbye to Alex, she only half turns to Lena and Lena nods in understanding that now both of them know it’s time to say goodbye. But she doesn’t want to say goodbye to Lena, she can’t. And Lena.. Lena can’t say goodbye to Kara. So they stand there, in silence for a few seconds, staring at each other, knowing the other can’t and won’t say goodbye but hoping one of them will say goodbye first, but they don’t. They both inhale deeply thinking of what to say. Cause god there is SO much to say, but what is allowed to be said? Is it the right time? Will there ever be another time? Until Lena initiates the good luck, and Kara responds with you too. And you can see the pain in Kara’s eyes when she says you too. She wants to say SO much more, but that will just have to do, because goodbye is not an option.

So, Ep 6x03 is titled “Phantoms of the Opera”. 

You do realize this could be the third time (or fourth time, if you count the balcony scene framing in 5x01 and the overall “warring families” Romeo & Juliet dynamic between them all along) that they’ve utilized a classic ROMANTIC story to parallel with Kara/Lena?

SEASON 4

Of all the books she’s given, Red Daughter (aka blank slate Kara)’s favorite is the romantic novel The Great Gatsby and she even cites the romance as one of the reasons why, meanwhile she’s obsessed with the beautiful, wealthy Lena. Great Gatsby is about a man who is obsessed with a beautiful, wealthy Daisy whom he’s always been in love with. In the end, Gatsby dies. And in the end, Red Daughter “dies” (is re-absorbed back into Kara).

SEASON 5

The 100th episode is centered around Kara/Lena’s relationship and is entitled “It’s a Super Life” which is a play on the romantic Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life. In the movie, a fantastical figure (an angel from heaven) guides George through an alternate reality where he’d never been born. In the show, a fantastical figure (an imp from the 5th dimension) guides Kara through various alternate realities where she tells Lena her secret. Towards the end of the film, the final breaking point for George above all else, is when he seeks out his wife – who is a miserable version of herself. SEASON 6

The 3rd episode is titled “Phantoms of the Opera”. If you’re familiar with the romantic book or musical The Phantom of the Opera, you know the lead heroine effectively winds up trapped by this dark and seductive figure, and it’s her friend turned lover that ultimately risks his life to try to save her. Eventually they escape the danger, and run off and get married and spend their life together. Now look at the episode title a little closer, and remember that audition tape…

All I’m saying is this appears as if it could be the third time in recent seasons where they utilize an iconic ROMANTIC tale for something involving Kara/Lena. Either way, even if this time it doesn’t pan out to have anything to do with them, they’ve done this twice before (or three times if you count the R&J element). 

So not only do they parallel Supercorp with other romantic couples and scenarios on the show itself, and in the verse (Clois especially, endlessly) but also with classic romantic literature, films, etc.
