āDude, suckinā at something is the first step to being sorta good at something.āĀ ā Jake the Dog, Adventure Time
Stressed
Itās been a very stressful month (since the start of internship). Thereās so many things I have to catch up on. Things like reading research papers to know the next direction for my Final Year Project, voluntary work, school assignments, studying BMAT, and studying for JLPT N4.Ā
I donāt know how to be more productive and it troubles me badly whenever I waste letās say, 3 hours, doing something, but not accomplishing much. I try to study at night but I end up sleeping on the table. Sometimes I donāt remember how I end up sleeping on the bed halfway through studying. I guess Iām a morning person, so Iām changing my plans to study before I leave for internship in the morning.Ā
To be honest, internship is stressful as hell. Iām not cut out for research work but I still have to do this well. I screwed up one of the protein lysis for an important experiment. The entire weekās worth of (expensive) H1N1 virus and cell cultures were wasted, because of my silly careless mistake. Now, Iām not even trusted by my supervisor. Itās hard to turn things around, but I will try my best anyway.Ā
On a side note, I hope I donāt get too addicted to Pokemon Go. :x
Good luck! (įµį“„įµ)
This is just my personal opinion, but I donāt think telling people to record lectures is a good idea. (Aside from the fact that some lecturers donāt allow it. Read your syllabi.) Iāve tried it, and it takes a lot of time to go back through and listen to your recordings. I even tried it with an app on my iPad that records as you type, so you can go back to specific words to start the recording at that word. But, again, in my opinion, I think thatās teaching students the wrong way to approach taking notes (i.e., that itās about perfecting your lecture notes to be an exactĀ transcript of what your professor says⦠which it shouldnāt be, especially because most professors use lecture to highlight important conceptsĀ not teach everything).
If youāre missing a key detail from lecture⦠You could just ask your professor. Send them an email. Ask a classmate. Look in your textbook. Google it. All of which take wayĀ less time⦠Leaving you more time to actually study. Donāt take this lightly. Time is a very valuable resource, especially in college.
Also, Iāve known plenty of different students who have received 4.0s (including @philosonista ), and this advice⦠Is very basic. The title says,Ā āClick Baitā to me. If you want actual advice on how to get a 4.0, I recommend you read @philosonista ās blog posts. Sheās not a studyblr. But if you read her posts, you get a sense of how she works (and I know her IRL, so I can confirm that itās accurate). Itās about dedication and hard work. Lots of it. Lots. Spending time on activities that most efficiently improve your understanding (such as practice problems or practice essays) and none of the frivolous bs (like rewriting notes).
Sorry, but I think posts with titles like,Ā āHow to Get a 4.0ā³ deserve criticism. Because a pink post with a flashy title doesnāt mean itās good advice. No offense to the author of this post personally. Because I see a lot of them going around. This one was just particularly cutesy. And Iām sick of people using click bait titles like this just to get more reblogs.
Iād love to see someone write a real, raw post about what itās actually like to go through a semester that results in a 4.0. Iād be happy to reblog.
Things I Dislike About Studyblr
I am a member of the studyblr community. So I obviously think itās a positive enough experience to remain in the community. But here are a few things I personally donāt like about it that I think need to be discussed more often.
Studyspo overload. This particular point Iāve actually discussed plenty. So much in the past. But I donāt think it can ever be said enough. Studyblr should not be about studyspo.Ā For many reasons. It makes the community about aesthetic rather than education and learning. And itās typically classist; not everyone can afford pretty stationery. Among other reasons, but those two are up there. And I know thatās not going to change the fact that dashboards will always be clogged with studyspo.
TheĀ āeverything is rainbows and butterfliesā attitude. Thatās not how it actually is to be a student. And I think we all know that in our own ways. The most successful students donāt thrive off of purely good vibes and positive thoughts. Sure, those things make it more bearable, and thatās important in its own right. But success is made through hard work, and oftentimes, failure. Shoving those real, negative thoughts and experiences aside for sugar-coated motivational quotes and pretty pens gives an unrealistic expectation of what itās like to be a good student.
Click bait study tip posts. These really grind my gears. Posts that have titles involving buzz words such as ā4.0ā³,Ā āStraight-Aā, orĀ āBest Studentsā. Frankly, a lot of those posts have the most basic advice out there. The same advice over and over again that Iāve seen in so many posts. Advice that seems reasonable but, in my experience, donāt actually fit what real students who get 4.0s do. Or at least skip over the actual reasons they get those 4.0s (which doesnāt boil down to a list of quick tips, but is, rather, a type of mindset or approach to studying).
Original studyblr blogs are hard to find. I like a decent dose of studyspo like anyone else, but at some point, following studyblrs means getting the same material over and over again. Personally, Iām much more interested in hearing about othersā academic journey and seeing original posts. To each their own, but I think the real experience of being a student is lost amongst a dash filled with pictures of pretty notes.
How afraid studyblrs seem to engage in academic discussion and constructive criticism. This relates to my second point. People here are nice. Which is great. But at the same time, it seems to discourage any type of discussion that might run close to offending anyone through disagreement. In academia, people disagree. And thatās okay! We can still have conversations about these things without the intent being to personally offend anyone. If we just assume that everything any studyblr says is correct⦠Weāre going down a slippery slope of blissful, self-imposed ignorance. And, frankly, a lot of you studyblrs are young, impressionable high schoolers. You should learn nowĀ to question what you read. Donāt take peoplesā word just because they seem reliable. Myself included.
I hope this starts some good discussion. If you disagree, feel free to add your own commentary. This isnāt about the ārightā orĀ āwrongā way to be a studyblr. Itās about encouraging discourse.
Everyone has an opinion. You should be allowed to defend it. And even more importantly, you should be allowed to changeĀ it without the shame of beingĀ āwrongā. Thatās what learning is all about.

OKAY. SO. FOUND THIS LOVELY ARTICLE ON FREE!WIKI.
Now, I have nothing against those who dislike Nagisa as a character. Everyone is entitles to their own opinions, and if Nagisa isnāt their cup of tea, so be it.Ā
But how DARE you say such things.Ā
Saying that he should just die? Calling him a faggot?
This is something that is incredibly wrong with society. Some people take their hatred to extremes. Even though he is a fictional character, there is something wrong with wishing that he die. Especially since he brings an incredible positive vibe to the show.Ā
Who was the one who had the idea for the swim club?
Nagisa.
Who was the one who recognized Reiās abilities and love for beauty and highly encouraged that he join the team?
Nagisa.
Who is the one who always sees the positive side of everyone? Especially Haru who can seem cold? And believed in Rin, knowing that Rin still cared despite pretending not to?Ā
Nagisa.
Who was the first to worry about Rei when he started skipping practice?
Nagisa.
Iām not trying to make Nagisa an absolute angel of a character. But Nagisa is an integral component to Free!. A driving and encouraging force filled with absolute passion for swimming and his friends.
Some people wish that Joffrey Baratheon would die a thousand times over. Such wishes I suppose are understandable as the character did several wrong things without any signs of remorse.Ā
But I donāt understand how so many people can throw around āgo dieā to such a positive persona. Especially without any explanation other than āheās ugly,ā ājust a stereotype shota,ā etc.Ā
I especially hate the gay slander. In todayās world, such words shouldnāt be thrown around carelessly. If these people are tossing that word at a fictional character, I canāt imagine how they would treat actual homosexuals or even just an outcast at school or anyone who could be bullied really.Ā
Iām sorry if this rant isnāt really coherent as this just really upsets me seeing SO much hate for Nagisa. Especially since Iāve become really emotionally attached to these characters and because I honestly see this as a reflection on their behavior around real people.Ā
I donāt intend to start an argument, I just really needed to vent.
Thank you for your time.
