Community Solar: Harnessing the Power of Warehouse Rooftops
Community solar enegry requires assembling solar panels on different buildings for community use. Community solar is a great way to deliver clean and affordable power to the people. It's especially useful for people who can't afford, or are unable to put solar panels on their own homes.
One of the biggest chances for expansion is the vast roof spaces of industrial warehouses. The large structures can house gigawatts of shared solar power, delivering low-cost electricity to underserved urban communities. But realising this potential will depend on supportive state policies and utility programs that encourage large-scale development.
One recent example is a rooftop community solar project on a Prologis warehouse in Oakland, California, developed in partnership with Ava Community Energy. Scaling up similar projects can help accelerate the transition to renewable energy, lower the cost of electricity and create a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
