i once read that joan didion and her husband would walk in Central Park every morning. they didn’t always walk together, as they preferred different routes, but they kept each other in mind and found a way to intersect before leaving. i realized then that that was what i wanted from a relationship. not the glamour, the intrigue, or the lust. those things are great, of course. but what i really want is someone to keep me in mind. someone to intersect with me before leaving.

the tragedy of characters attempting to break free from the cycle (violence, fate, generational trauma, etc.) that they go down a path and become someone they don’t even recognize all to fulfill the cycle they had every intention of breaking and fail the quest
