Please, do not tell me that Iβm βtoo pretty to be a doctorβ. Do not tell me that βyou donβt have to do all that workβ.
Iβm not looking for a career that I can ride on my looks to obtain. Iβm not looking to take the easy route because I βcanβ.
My looks and my ability to practice medicine are not anything to be held up against each other. I can be feminine and still completely willing to cut someone open. I can be a blonde and wear fake eyelashes, I can be a brunette who wears dresses all the time, I can enjoy working out and keeping my body in shape and simultaneously be a hardworking pre med student.
Would you say that to a male pre med when you learned of his career goals? That heβs too handsome to be a doctor? Then donβt say it to me, thanks.
Women can be traditionally beautiful and practice and pursue medicine. Women can be non-traditionally beautiful and be wonderful doctors. Women can look however they want and still be wonderful physicians and surgeons.
So if you really want to boil me down to my looks, you can say this: youβll look really great in a white coat.
Donβt tell me that Iβm too pretty to be a doctor.
Tell me that Iβm smart enough to be one.
