Notes: So I’m very nervous about posting this. I’ve had this original story for years. Earlier this year I finally started posting about it on a side-blog I made @alethion. The story and the characters mean a lot to me and I’ve wanted to write the story properly for years.
I wrote this months ago in the middle of a lunch break at Uni and I had forgotten all about it, until about a week ago.
This is the first piece of the story I’ve written (discounting character bios, backstories, and very short drafts). I would really appreciate any and all feedback, and if you want to know more about the story and what I have planned for it you can go to @alethion and @emptymasks/tagged/alethionÂ
The daretowrite challenge can be found at @inkstay
p.p.s. look @lingering-snow I finally did it. I wrote and posted an original thing.
Red. All he could see was red.
The blood stuck to his boots and clung to his hair and he felt as though no matter how much be scrubbed at his skin it would still be there.
Marcellus stood in the doorway of what was once his home. His mother’s body laying at his feet, his youngest brother shivering in his arms.
Outside the sky was burning. Everything was burning. The stench of it seeped into everything. A molten decay.
But despite the horror, it was quiet. Those that had been fighting were either dead, captured, or had surrendered. He looked down at Jasper. The boy’s light hair stained with ash. If he gave in now they might be safe… or at least alive.
Something I worked on a few weeks ago. I finally got all the line art finished. I started this a year ago and then completely forgot about it until I searching through my files. They are concept sketches for an original story of mine, which you can read/see here @alethionÂ
Where I’ve been and what I’m wanting to do here
I know it’s been quite a while since I posted on here. I’ve been busy with finishing college, I had a job over the summer (that I’ve now finished), and I moving to university in 18 days. So I’ve been stressing out about that.
But I have so much stuff I want to put on here.
I’ve always wanted to post any updates I have about characters and plots on here, but I’ve felt like I can’t do that until I’ve introduced them all. But I’ve been having a lot of thoughts about the characters lately and I want to share them. What I might do is do another slide show like I did for some of the main protagonists so you guys get an idea about who the characters are, but if any of you have any suggestions I’d love to here them.
It was always going to be hard to start chronicling this when I’ve already had the story for about three years now, but I know it’ll get easier as I get more used to it.
After Niriel came Kuldoh. While he was short in stature, he had broad shoulders with a powerful frame. He was hard-headed, steadfast and stubborn. He was quick to anger and with that first sharp, vicious burst, a bolt of lightning cut through the sky, and as it hit the mountains the first dwarves were born. Most chose to stay in the rock and stone, as they felt there they would be closest to their creator. But some did choose to settle elsewhere, and their ability to craft and create was admired by all.
Now Eal himself is an enigma. He’s not a being. Not really. He’s a conscience. Before the world was created he floated among the void, part of the universe, and yet different from it. He created the world so that there could be change. After his work was done he seemed to disappear, no longer communicating with his creations, not even Deisos, his appointed commander of this new world, or Azzol, his firstborn.

The first OC’S I ever made were back in the days I spent a lot of time on deviantart. I still have drawings saved on my computer, but I don’t really remember anything about their personality or much of their story.
My oldest OCs are from my fantasy story. If you want to know more about it you can go to @alethion, it’s a side-blog of mine entirely dedicated to that story. The oldest OC, who was the first character I had for this story, before it was really even a story was Damien Shields. He started out as just a male version of myself really, but over time gained his own personality and is definitely nothing like me any more.Â
The one thing about him that has never changed was the idea of him having wings. That he came from a kingdom that was populated by essentially humans with wings. Originally he was the last of his kind, his kingdom having been burnt down and him being the sole survivor (or at least the only survivor who had the wings). The story’s changed a lot since then. The next lot of characters were those that populate Elethmae, in fact to start of with that was the only kingdom that existed for a long time.Â
After Damien I think Evanelle was created a few years later, although she went through a variety of names before settling on Evanelle. Maximus, Marcellus, Crynwise, Aria, Eric, and Jasper same not long after that, as well as a couple of characters who I got rid of. There was a character called Jefferson who was going to be a father figure for Marcellus. He didn’t stay very long, I don’t remember anything about him other than that. Thaddeus was another, and I can’t remember what function he had in the story, but I kept the name and ended up making him an ancestor of Damien’s.
Oh wow, I didn’t realise how much I’d written. I’ve been writing more about this story the last couple of days. I’ve wanted to write about it properly for so long. I’ll be posting the first bit of writing to @alethion later today or tomorrow so follow me there if you want to see it. I don’t know which of you have OCs so if you see this and you do feel free to consider yourself tagged.
I’m going to take my time writing this because it means a lot to me, so I really appreciate it if you read any of this.
So I made this blog a year or two ago and since then I’ve not really done anything with it. Yes, some of that is down to focusing on college and applying for university, but the main reason is I’m scared.
This story means a lot to me. I’ve had it for about five or six years now, and the plots and characters have kept me going through some black moments in my life. I don’t want to go to much into detail, but some of you know I struggled a lot with my anxiety from 2011-2014. I’m much better now, but thinking about this story was one of the things that kept me going and so I’m nervous about sharing it with people as it feels like I’m exposing part of myself.Â
I’m also worried that no one will see any of this. That I’ll spend a lot of time and effort in keeping this blog up to date with all the developments and ideas for this story, for maybe one note on a post if I’m lucky.
But I’m starting to be okay with that. Lately I’ve been doing different writing exercises and trying to spend more time with my characters and I really want this to work. I have quite a number of original stories, but this is by far my most treasured one, and so I think I need to stop forcing myself to work on others that I think will be a more appropriate use of my time (spending hours on webcomics that I don’t have much passion for any more). While I sometimes see my stories as work, they are also my hobby and I don’t want to be worrying so much about them that I no longer enjoy them.
As creators, whether we’re writing or drawing, we tend to think our art isn't worthwhile if when we post it, it only gets a couple of notes. But we shouldn't be discouraged by that. We should keep going as maybe one day people will start to take notice, but even if they don’t your doing what you love. I know we want the validation of knowing that other people like our work, but if we never post anything because we’re afraid that no one will reblog it, we won’t even be giving anyone the chance too.
So, I’m going to do this. It’s scary, and I’m worried about it. But that’s okay. The fact that I’m scared means I know I’m on that right track.
