Notes:Ā So I'm very nervous about posting this. I've had this original story for years. Earlier this year I finally started posting about it on a side-blog I made @alethion. The story and the characters mean a lot to me and I've wanted to write the story properly for years.
I wrote this months ago in the middle of a lunch break at Uni and I had forgotten all about it, until about a week ago.
This is the first piece of the story I've written (discounting character bios, backstories, and very short drafts). I would really appreciate any and all feedback, and if you want to know more about the story and what I have planned for it you can go to @alethion and @emptymasks/tagged/alethionĀ
The daretowrite challenge can be found at @inkstay
p.p.s. look @lingering-snow I finally did it. I wrote and posted an original thing.
Red. All he could see was red.
The blood stuck to his boots and clung to his hair and he felt as though no matter how much be scrubbed at his skin it would still be there.
Marcellus stood in the doorway of what was once his home. His motherās body laying at his feet, his youngest brother shivering in his arms.
Outside the sky was burning. Everything was burning. The stench of it seeped into everything. A molten decay.
But despite the horror, it was quiet. Those that had been fighting were either dead, captured, or had surrendered. He looked down at Jasper. The boyās light hair stained with ash. If he gave in now they might be safe⦠or at least alive.
He stepped back and turned to look up at the palace. Smoke clawing its way out of the windows and escaping towards the sky. On one of the open towers wires were being stung up between the pillars; with a lurch in his stomach Marcellus realised they were wings, cut from fallen soldiers.
And he knew.
The king was dead. Damien. His ruler. His friend.
And if Damien was dead thenā¦
He felt his knees start to buckle. There was no way Maximus alive. He would have sacrificed his life defending Damien. Or lost it trying to get vengeance, justice, for his death. There was only himself and Jasper left. His family⦠At least Evan wasnāt here.
Evan.
Before he realised he was moving, he found himself rushing towards the nearest gate. What was there left for him here? His mother? His brother? His friends? All of them dead.
He pulled himself between two houses as some of the invading soldiers walked past. There was no way he would get out of the kingdom before they closed the gates.
āWell I guess this means Markās rich now- ah!ā The young prince gritted his teeth together.
He was laying on his stomach, the blood running down his back dripping onto the sheets.
āDamien, you shouldnāt try and talk, youāre in a lot of pain.ā Evanelle was sat at his bedside, she leaned over to brush Damienās hair out of his eyes.
āBut think about it. How much gold do you think heāll get, Elle?ā
āThe sort of people who would bet youād never grow your wings donāt strike me as the sort of people who would honour their word, brother.ā
āStill. I bet it would be enough for him to finally take you out to dinner ā ow.ā
āDonāt say āowā, I lightly tapped you.ā
āYes, but remember, Iām in a lot of pain.ā Damien smirked.
How Damien had managed to look smug in that moment was beyond Evanelle. Most of those descended from Erron would get their wings when they went through the early years of adolescence, the later they came through, the more it would hurt. Evanelleās came through when she was twelve. Damienās didnāt come through until he was seventeen.
She was finding the act relaxing, but then again anything would feel relaxing right now compared to seeing her son in such pain only a few moments ago.
But then, she lifted her gaze, her eyes caught movement out of the window, and she saw it. A beacon of red lighting up the forest around it. She dropped the comb and walked over to the window, blinking hard, willing for the sight to be an illusion. A hallucination from her lack of sleep.
It wasnāt. She could see people, mostly the palace guards, gathered outside, watching the flames.
Why werenāt they moving? Why werenāt they helping? Why hadnāt somebody told her? That was her kingdom, her home. Her home was burning, crumbling into ash and dissolving into the sky.
Damien. Marcellus. Maximus. Her mother. Cynwise. Aria. Issak.
The door to the room burst open and Evanelle instantly drew herself up glancing around for anything she could use to defend herself.
āWe donāt have a lot of time.ā The figure said.
Evanelle knew that voice.
āAva? What are you doing here? Cedric said heāll be able to clear you name soon, you shouldnāt be-ā
āCedricās said a lot of things lately. Somethingās wrong with him. Something must be controlling him, forcing him to do these things. He would never hurt anyone, Evan. I know my little brother, he wouldnātā¦ā
āWhat has he done. Ava, youāre not making any sense.ā Evanelle found herself shaking.
āI donāt have time to explain, we need to-ā
āI am not taking my son anywhere unless I know what is going on.ā
āCedricās not going to clear my name, Evan. Heās the one who set me up. He poisoned our brother, and tricked everyone into blaming me. I heard him taking with you cousin, Lucius. And you know the that poison was the same one that killed you father-ā
āCedric did not kill my father-ā
āEvan!ā Evanelle flinched. āCedric hasnāt left to go and renew the trade agreements with Westport. He left to go to Elethmae. And he left with an army.ā

Something I worked on a few weeks ago. I finally got all the line art finished. I started this a year ago and then completely forgot about it until I searching through my files. They are concept sketches for an original story of mine, which you can read/see here @alethionĀ
Where Iāve been and what Iām wanting to do here
I know itās been quite a while since I posted on here. Iāve been busy with finishing college, I had a job over the summer (that Iāve now finished), and I moving to university in 18 days. So Iāve been stressing out about that.
But I have so much stuff I want to put on here.
Iāve always wanted to post any updates I have about characters and plots on here, but Iāve felt like I canāt do that until Iāve introduced them all. But Iāve been having a lot of thoughts about the characters lately and I want to share them. What I might do is do another slide show like I did for some of the main protagonists so you guys get an idea about who the characters are, but if any of you have any suggestions Iād love to here them.
It was always going to be hard to start chronicling this when Iāve already had the story for about three years now, but I know itāll get easier as I get more used to it.
just spent the last couple of hours completely revamping my @alethion blog. new tag page that has subheadings! (technically not subheadings, i just removed the link and made them bold and underlines). iāve wanted the change the colours for so long because the black just wasn't inviting, but black was the only the colour that worked with that theme. so now i have a new theme and changed the colours. the description are much better and it just looks more professional.
After Niriel came Kuldoh. While he was short in stature, he had broad shoulders with a powerful frame. He was hard-headed, steadfast and stubborn. He was quick to anger and with that first sharp, vicious burst, a bolt of lightning cut through the sky, and as it hit the mountains the first dwarves were born. Most chose to stay in the rock and stone, as they felt there they would be closest to their creator. But some did choose to settle elsewhere, and their ability to craft and create was admired by all.
Now Eal himself is an enigma. Heās not a being. Not really. Heās a conscience. Before the world was created he floated among the void, part of the universe, and yet different from it. He created the world so that there could be change. After his work was done he seemed to disappear, no longer communicating with his creations, not even Deisos, his appointed commander of this new world, or Azzol, his firstborn.

The first OCāS I ever made were back in the days I spent a lot of time on deviantart. I still have drawings saved on my computer, but I donāt really remember anything about their personality or much of their story.
My oldest OCs are from my fantasy story. If you want to know more about it you can go to @alethion, itās a side-blog of mine entirely dedicated to that story. The oldest OC, who was the first character I had for this story, before it was really even a story was Damien Shields. He started out as just a male version of myself really, but over time gained his own personality and is definitely nothing like me any more.Ā
The one thing about him that has never changed was the idea of him having wings. That he came from a kingdom that was populated by essentially humans with wings. Originally he was the last of his kind, his kingdom having been burnt down and him being the sole survivor (or at least the only survivor who had the wings). The storyās changed a lot since then. The next lot of characters were those that populate Elethmae, in fact to start of with that was the only kingdom that existed for a long time.Ā
After Damien I think Evanelle was created a few years later, although she went through a variety of names before settling on Evanelle. Maximus, Marcellus, Crynwise, Aria, Eric, and Jasper same not long after that, as well as a couple of characters who I got rid of. There was a character called Jefferson who was going to be a father figure for Marcellus. He didnāt stay very long, I donāt remember anything about him other than that. Thaddeus was another, and I canāt remember what function he had in the story, but I kept the name and ended up making him an ancestor of Damienās.
Oh wow, I didnāt realise how much Iād written. Iāve been writing more about this story the last couple of days. Iāve wanted to write about it properly for so long. Iāll be posting the first bit of writing to @alethion later today or tomorrow so follow me there if you want to see it. I donāt know which of you have OCs so if you see this and you do feel free to consider yourself tagged.
Iām going to take my time writing this because it means a lot to me, so I really appreciate it if you read any of this.
So I made this blog a year or two ago and since then Iāve not really done anything with it. Yes, some of that is down to focusing on college and applying for university, but the main reason is Iām scared.
This story means a lot to me. Iāve had it for about five or six years now, and the plots and characters have kept me going through some black moments in my life. I donāt want to go to much into detail, but some of you know I struggled a lot with my anxiety from 2011-2014. Iām much better now, but thinking about this story was one of the things that kept me going and so Iām nervous about sharing it with people as it feels like Iām exposing part of myself.Ā
Iām also worried that no one will see any of this. That Iāll spend a lot of time and effort in keeping this blog up to date with all the developments and ideas for this story, for maybe one note on a post if Iām lucky.
But Iām starting to be okay with that. Lately Iāve been doing different writing exercises and trying to spend more time with my characters and I really want this to work. I have quite a number of original stories, but this is by far my most treasured one, and so I think I need to stop forcing myself to work on others that I think will be a more appropriate use of my time (spending hours on webcomics that I donāt have much passion for any more). While I sometimes see my stories as work, they are also my hobby and I donāt want to be worrying so much about them that I no longer enjoy them.
As creators, whether weāre writing or drawing, we tend to think our art isn't worthwhile if when we post it, it only gets a couple of notes. But we shouldn't be discouraged by that. We should keep going as maybe one day people will start to take notice, but even if they donāt your doing what you love. I know we want the validation of knowing that other people like our work, but if we never post anything because weāre afraid that no one will reblog it, we wonāt even be giving anyone the chance too.
So, Iām going to do this. Itās scary, and Iām worried about it. But thatās okay. The fact that Iām scared means I know Iām on that right track.
