idk not to drag up that scene again after i went off in the tags last night but i'm so obsessed with the way alec pulls himself together and shows up at maurice's job just to remind maurice that all he does is fake. wealth is fake. class is fake. investing people's wealth is a construct we invented to make ourselves wealthier to hold power over other people (like alec scudder) and it's all fake. the only real thing in the world is the relationships we have with other people and simply seeing alec's face interrupting his delicately constructed little middle class life is a reminder to maurice that he won't ever want anything as much as he wants to be loved by another man. and so maurice just walks out from his meeting to go fuck about in a museum and i think that's glorious
