Sometimes I marvel at how I’m actually sharing the most intimate snippets of my day — what I eat, the books I read, the way the light falls on my belly rolls, casual flash of nipple — so routinely now! If you’d told my 1980s self that strangers would greet my smile, my cleavage, my mons pubis and my penchant for raunchy cardigans with applause rather than awkwardness, I’d have laughed you out the door. Back then, you’d never just announce your choice of knickers or parade your lifestyle in public, let alone document the gentle chaos of your home and body for all to see. Yet here I am, in 2026, aged 64 (soon to be 65!), finding comfort in the act. There’s a strange joy in the ordinary; a flash of cheek, a cuppa shared virtually, and a community built on honesty. Perhaps it’s bonkers, but it’s beautifully normal now—like writing this!

Sometimes I catch myself glancing upwards, chin raised like an indignant goose, refusing to shrink beneath the weight of expectation. Letting it all hang out, I find strength in the oddest details — my mismatched socks, the tea-stained mug perched atop last year’s tax returns, and the unapologetic curves of my silhouette. Life’s a bit like my garden after a rainstorm: soggy, chaotic, but gloriously refreshed. I relish the freedom of being irrepressibly myself, even if it means kicking off my knickers to stand tall, wobbles and all. I think of it as blooming in the sunshine — petals unfurled, ready for whatever breeze comes next. Call it Lady Bee-style.... a triumph of joyful exposure!

Monday mornings used to be marked by the endless clatter of kettles, listless socks hunting for their pair, and the reliable groan of the alarm — life’s humdrum rhythm, steady as a train trundling through drizzle. Now, Mondays are a world apart: instead of battling traffic or paperwork, I’m staging cheeky posts, pondering captions, and even sharing a full frontal on Tumblr (yes, really). It’s a peculiar thrill — like swapping a sensible raincoat for sequinned knickers — never quite knowing what reaction will tumble in. The very ordinariness of old Mondays has been replaced by a daring new dance, where each click, like a pebble tossed in a pond, ripples further than I’d ever imagined.

Monday Haiku

Grey dawns, bright reveal —

Old humdrum shed with new skin,

Mondays show it all.

Black stockings and nothing more, and — if you squint—a whiff of rebellion at 65! Honestly, who’d have thought the trusted keeper of the village hall keys, upstanding leader of the Bank Holiday rubbish pick, and “Queen of the Library Book Club” would be caught in such daring attire? One moment I’m mediating a heated Scrabble debate as co-founder of the Board Games & Card Game Club; the next, I’m pondering whether I can truly pull off ‘raunchy’ online without scandalising Mrs Hall or forfeiting my teapot privileges.

Is it possible that underneath the sensible shoes and council minutes, there lurks a renegade spirit? It’s rather like swapping my sturdy tweed for a feather boa—unexpected, slightly itchy, and bound to raise eyebrows at the WI meeting.

So, for all my fellow village doyennes and book lovers, here’s a ditty to celebrate our inner cheekiness:

In stockings black, I’ll tease and grin,

A posh club queen, beneath my skin.

Musings from the Heart of the Village – April 2026

Well, my dears, April has tiptoed in with blossom and brisk breezes, and I find myself reflecting on another month in our dear village—a place that’s as cosily unpredictable as a cat on a patchwork quilt. There’s a particular pleasure in waking up to the chime of church bells and the distant rumble of recycling lorries, a symphony unique to our corner of the countryside.

I’ve spent the week juggling book club debates (last Monday’s Scrabble incident was more dramatic than Bake Off finals) and wrangling with my roses, which stubbornly refuse to bloom unless coaxed with a stern talking-to and a splash of tea. The allotment gossip this spring has rivalled anything you’d find in the tabloids—though, naturally, our stories are more about missing hens than missing millions.

As for lifestyle tips — never underestimate the restorative power of a brisk walk, a well-brewed cuppa, and a dash of mischief, no matter your age. A wise woman once said: “Confidence is like marmalade—best spread thickly and never wasted.” And if you fancy embracing a little boldness, remember, life after sixty is no less dazzling; sometimes it’s the curtain twitchers who have the brightest lights behind them.

I do sometimes wonder what secrets the village holds — everyone has their quirks, and some of us perhaps more than others. If there’s a whiff of glamour amongst the gardening gloves and library books, well… that just how life can surprise us. Like a well-tended border, life flourishes when you nurture the unexpected.

Honestly, the idea of me sporting a thong feels more like a punchline than a fashion statement. Picture this: I stride into bookclub, armed with a well-thumbed novel and, unbeknownst to everyone, a scandalously skimpy bit of string masquerading as underwear. It wouldn’t take long for me to fidget — adjusting, tugging, regretting — while Mrs Hall eyes me suspiciously. And choir practice? One high note and I’d surely be hoisting myself discreetly behind the hymn sheets, praying nobody notices my discomfort. Thongs may promise allure, but in my world, they’d bring more blushes than bravado.
