Yes, the series technically classifies as romantasy, and yes, there is a lot of romance in there, but not only.

There is Manon and the Thirteen, who teach us that the family we build for ourselves is so much more important than the one we're born into.

Aelin, Dorian, and Chaol, who show us that sometimes you just need a hand to pull you out of the dark hell you wound up in.

Aelin and Ansel who teach us that sometimes we make mistakes, and those mistakes hurt the people around us, but that doesn't make them unforgivable.

My personal favorite, Fenrys and Aelin, who had a bond so deep they were the only things that kept each other sane through months of torture, so deep Fenrys broke the unbreakable blood oath and SURVIVED for Aelin's sake.

There is so much love in ToG. Platonic, romantic, between all genders.

It was such a relief to read something where platonic relationships that were strong weren’t just a secondary romantic connection in disguise. I love a secondary lead and yearning just as much as anyone. But for there to never be pure, strong friendships without them being turned into a love interest at some point in the story was so… distressing. And I hadn’t realized how suffocating that felt until I found the Throne of Glass series.

Also imagine after awhile macaque after caring for MK starts to realize shit I’m a dad now

Oh absolutely they do!! As Mk is and always will be a celestial Monkey in this Au, they have no reason not to call him monkey.

Aside from his full Name, LBD’s names for Mk usually stem from his purpose.

I have a list of names he’d be called from when I first came up with this AU

LBD: The Bone Demon in canon has a few names she calls Mk, Child is the most common. Monkey King’s Protege, Simian (Referring to him, Macaque and Wukong), sweet child (mockingly), fool.

In DLV she calls MK even MORE things. Monkey, Little monkey, Child, Stone Child, Harbinger, Harbinger of Chaos. When Referring to him she probably calls him more absurd things like ‘Fates gift’ or other weirdly ominous things because she feels entitled to MK😭

The Mayor/General! The Mayor uses very similar names, though they are probably more cynical. While he does fully heartedly believe in his Lady’s plans, the mayor doesn’t see much use in Mk as the kid is now. Because MK can’t fight like him and Macaque, Mk needs food, water, sleep, all things that slow down progress towards his lady’s perfect world. So When he does regard Mk with any sort of warmth or respect its when referring to LBD through MK or his Lady’s plans for MK.

The Mayor does call MK ‘Monkey’ the most though. Showing his stance on Mk never really changes. At least not yet.

Meanwhile Macaque is in the corner like with a billion accidental term of endearment. Kid, Kiddo, Xiao, Little Stone/Xiaoshi, bud, ‘Harbinger’,

At first Macaque’s is just trying to keep the kid alive. Then he’s trying to keep his kid alive. Until one day he has the horrifying realization of: “…oh no. I’m a father!!”

Thank you so much for the ask!! It means so much, I love talking about them! Macaque gets attached to Mk rather quickly, as they are the only other warm bodies in the temple. And how can you not get attached to Mk! So parent Macaque is real in my AU 🙂‍↕️
