recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
Hey OP? Thank you for articulating something I've been trying to get clear in my own mind for a while now.
Here’s HSTHETE, the 24 hour comic I drew this year! Thanks to everybody who followed along on twitter this weekend as I posted these pages <3
PS: if you liked this, there’s a whole book of these comics available now!
I’m reblogging this 7-year-old comic of mine because, not only is it somehow still circulating, it just passed 400,000 notes??? Thank you, several hundred thousand internet strangers, for keepin’ this ol’ goat girl goin’ so long
(Also hi, I’m still making fairy-tale-flavored lesbian romance comics and have a new one coming out very soon…)
This reads like a folklore-ish fairytale, with a comic having such a soft yet vibrant color pallete. The fact the the story ends with the woman not only getting seen, but also by someone worth being seen by, is truly romantic and magically pleasing.
And also GAY!
I know trans people are used to (both historically and in the modern day) being represented cruelly through media. Back before we had more positive portrayals of trans people, the very existence of their nonconformity is treated as a joke. So naturally trans people are on the defense whenever trans characters are even visually depicted.
But at some point, especially when this is trans art made by fellow trans creatives, we need to let go of that defense and see what the art has to say. Because if the notion of a buff hairy trans woman or a big boobs and hips having trans man get immediately labelled as "bad representation" or "a caricature"- then we're just pressuring trans people to conform to a strict colonial imposed gender binary that even cis people struggle with. Cis girls can be tomboys but if a trans woman is butchy then it's suddenly regressive representation. Let cis men by feminine, but if a trans man is feminine then suddenly he's not even trying.
As always, I get where this pain and defensiveness is coming from. But a future where trans people have to look like the most conventional cis person ever is not one I'm celebrating. I'd hate for conformity to be enforced in a space that should be celebrating nonconformity.

For those of you who want to get *extra* immersed in your reading!
Get a cup of tea, some bread and fruits, your adventure garb (throw some mud on it*) and read under your favorite tree or at the lakeshore to the sounds of nature! (A flower crown will make a nice accessory!) 🌱🌱🌱 If you'd like music, I might suggest game soundtracks like Skyrim, The Witcher III, Outward, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, or Monster Hunter World
*mud not necessary, but poor Laibrook really goes through it in this book!
This queer fantasy romance book comes out near the end of June! Stay posted for preorder announcements for The Bard and the Messenger~ *all photos are from Pexels*
You know the meme where you go "the name of [noun with a diminutive] implies the existence of [a hypothetical HUGE form of same thing, but without the diminutive]" like "existence of dorito implies the existence of THE DORO" and it's a huge-ass corn chip the size of a wheel of cheese?
Well, in finnish, the word for moth is "yökkönen", from "yö" (night), the suffix "-kko/kkö" which has many purposes but one of them is to change any word into "person involved with doing something with the root word", and the dininutive "-nen". So the name of moth is "little night creature".
But coming back to the diminutive meme, the existence of yökkönen would imply the existence of yökkö, the big (or at least medium-sized, or non-small) night creature. Through a happenstance completely unrelated to moths or other insects, "yökkö" is the finnish vernacular word for a night shift nurse.
Or maybe this queer fantasy romance is for you! The Bard and the Messenger by Aleksi Gray is to come out on June 23rd! 🌻 When I say "older characters" I'm fully aware 30 isn't old. I just haven't seen characters over 30 in a lot of the books I'm reading lately--I still like those books, but I'd just like to see a few more older characters!
✨ Stuff I write ✨ (and also draw) NOVELS: The Bard and the Messenger comes out in June of 2026! COMICS: Read Balefire (comic) on Slipshine (NSFW, 18+ only!)
