â¤ď¸Twisted Ever After Prologue Adventures Ch. 2! đ
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary: Or when Raven and her friends visited NRC, gets hooked on crack, and are forced to become trained professionals on to a group of equally as traumatized kids. They then all agree to murder the government. But who cares because Maddie and Ruggie are two steps above everyone.
Snippet:
Nobody knew what to expect when they entered Mr. Sam's shop, but whatever expectation they did have certainly exceeded from the gorgeous selection of occult items and magical trinkets a fae wouldn't see in just ordinary fairytale shops.
Jewels that trapped the souls of anyone who did you wrong, Tarot cards that tells the future based on your wildest dreams, books of information coverinh many popular Voodoo practioners from Sunset Savannah to all the way of The Frog Prince's country, this really did feel like home to Raven.
This must have also been like a Fortknight hit for Hunter, who was shoving a bunch of incense and trinkets that apparently scares ghost off into a shopping bag.He was spooked out from certain products, but he got around quickly when spot a "demon crossbow" that not even Mr. Sam had the heart to tell him was just a normal one.
The girls were joking, but it started to look like the possibility of their big tree boy was spooked.
Eh, he'll be fine
Dropping bars of his favorite candy into his bag, Raven walked around some more.
Book 7 - 201
NBC II episode 4-22
In his dream in book 7, Jack tearfully admits how helpless he felt knowing he couldn't stop Leona and Ruggie from going through with their plan in book 2. He felt betrayed but he also blamed himself for being too powerless to make them see reason. Now history is repeating itself and once again he's turning that blame inward for not being able to stop Ruggie. đĽ˛

Baymax and savanaclaw
Last winter, after reading Leona's dream, I wanted Baymax to play the therapist for him cause his line broke my heart... I drew other stuff but didn't finish them back them.
Now that Baymax event is coming, it was the opportunity to finish them :3.
(Working on Leona's birthday, so I'm gonna answer you guys next month :x)
Everytime I see Leonaâs overblot animation i get confused. The shadow before the blot monster? I know that itâs a lion but the squiggles of the stairs is hard to make out. Like what is that?
Hmmm.
I think because the shadow is being projected onto the stairs, it looks jagged like that since the stairs themselves are an uneven, jagged surface, if that makes sense?
It definitely looks like a lion's head, but the neck is stretched out. TBH to me it almost looks like a chess piece!! I think the shadow itself is a reference to "Be Prepared" and the stylized shadows in that song.
Scar is actually pretty skinny, so it could just be his "body", as seen here!! Because of the stylized shape of his chest, he also kind of looks like a chess piece. So I think that's all it is: the lion's body/neck distorted across the steps, which are an irregular surface.
for that one shadow trend, you know the one!! early access to my art on patreon!!
just had a random thought... Leoide age swap
now hear me out
Idia getting himself deliberately held back a year to have a little more time to be free of STYX, holding on desperately to freedom for just one more year and one more year for Ortho to explore (plus he started a year later due to his parents reservations)
Leona starting on time after being pressured by his family, going with it because why not resulting in him and Malleus starting the same year and thus their rivalry could have turned out very differently
I do think it would be really interesting so lemme know the thoughts?
Very in character for them both. I personally hate when people bring Leona's age up tk make fun of him for being what? 2 years older. And yeah he is 20 and would be 21 afyer graduation. HOWEVER that would also mean the other third years will turn 20 themselves when they graduate. So it's really no big deal, but people make it anyways despite Lillia and Malleus being over 100 as fae. Yet Leona is a beastman, yet still gets picked on.
Sorry for the rant, anyways yeah, Leona and Malleus would have a very different type of rivalry since that means they would both start on Spelldrive the same year and Leona's team would get beaten every time in three years instead of two. Making Leona despise Malleus even more.
However, I think also in some capacity they would be able to understand each other more. Like maybe if Leona kept coming to classes, he would see Malleus in a different light if they worked on projects or did activities that required them both. It would be weird and strangely different for sure.
Idia makes way too much sense to be 20. He hates working at STYX, he never socializes with anyone besides Ortho, his dorm, and housewardens. He only goes out to get food, go to meetings, and game club. He would be like this lanky older guy that everyone outside his dorm would question if he is even an actual student of Nrc.
So Leona would look at this poor wet guy of blue and find intrigued to be around. But also call him an old man and drag him out his room before he shrivels from lack of nutrition. Leona to Idia would be this arrogant, bratty prince who always barges in his room unannounced and takes over his personal space like some pampered, spoiled catm
omg I love all of this!! (also hard agree that Leona is unnecessarily bullied for his age when we have Lilia and Malleus right there)
I did think of this idea rather randomly but I was trying to think of their individuals and how it would change them as people and the story itself
With Leona he'd be even younger than Falena, make the comparisons even more unfair, it the estimation that he gained his scar as a young teen that wound is more fresh, as you said Malleus would have beaten his team every time so Leona would never have had that taste of victory. His persistence to have that victory through any means and his remaining childhood desires to be acknowledged could potentially be a better build up to Book 3 depending on what else changes.
this isn't confirmed but there have been some older screenshots going around twitter proposing that originally Savanaclaw's book was going to take the place of Book 6 thus meaning it would be Leona who would take the lead during book 7, maybe with the age swap that could lead to that potential timeline instead which would be more compelling with the fact Malleus and Leona would have been able to understand each other due to their similar mental ages
In Idia's case, assuming Ortho's age stays the same, that makes their age gap bigger. The common assumption and what I believe is that the OG!Ortho was 2 years younger than idia. This small change however, makes the age difference around 4 years instead. It's a small change but I think that changes how Idia would view his relationship with Ortho in the first place, he'd at least vaguely remember Ortho being born, he'd have a memory of a time before ortho when he was more lonely thus leading to him treasuring Ortho immensely but differently.
That would mean in his book, he's had longer without Ortho, he's more tired and burnt out from the world and he's being reminded of the shackle he's stuck with. But the overblot could lead to what we already see a little in cannon, him starting to reach out slowly and open up to the world around him which is a great start to a change when he's just that little bit older, he's trying to find freedom and to make the chain around his leg that little bit longer.
And if the timeline change I proposed happened, it would be very satisfying to see a brains vs brawns match but with both parties having their own version of it, Idia literally building his brawn and relying on his brain, Leona prioritising his brawn with his brain as a support. It would be narratively satisfying for both characters I think
as a couple they're also adorable, two inteligent men who respect that in each other but will also willingly open up and relax. And also the image of Leona dragging his old man boyfriend out of his room to touch grass is hilariously adorable and I love it
dammit I need to write something of this so badddd I have so many wip's but I wanna write this so bad (nothing long, just something short ofc I'm not that crazy)
You can do it! Your ideas are already amazing, I believe you would be able to execute it
Rethinking the "validity" of TWSTâs overblots
Introduction
Why are some overblots considered âless validâ by the fandom, and what assumptions are behind those judgments? Since the early chapters of TWST, fans have debated whether certain overblots were âvalid.â In fact, according to this X post, there was a poll on the most and least valid overblots. While characters like Riddle or Jamil often receive widespread sympathy, Leona and Vil are frequently criticized for having âunreasonableâ motivations. But what does it actually mean for an overblot to be âvalid?â
I don't think this is because some characters suffered more. Instead, I think the background behind some overblots are clearly explained, while others ask the player to interpret motivations that aren't stated as explicitly. Not every overblot is equally easy to understand, but that doesn't make some more or less valid.
When a story explains a character's emotional logic explicitly, most players arrive at a similar interpretation. When that emotional logic is implied rather than explained, players are more likely to fill in the gaps with their own assumptions.
In this blog, Iâve divided the overblots into two categories:
Explicit emotional narratives: The game clearly explains the connection between upbringing, worldview, and overblot (Riddle, Jamil, Malleus).
Implicit emotional narratives: The game gives you piecesâdialogue, symbolism, recurring behaviorsâbut expects the player to connect them (Leona, Vil, Azul).
This isn't a ranking of complexity or writing quality. Every overblot contains multiple layers, but some communicate their central conflict more explicitly than others. (Idia sits in the middle ground)
What fans usually mean by âvalidâ
Before I delve into the overblots, Iâd like to explore what fans often mean by how they are âvalid.â
Trauma tends to receive more sympathy than jealousy. Structural discrimination gets more sympathy than personal insecurity. Long-term suffering feels âearned.â A single incident feels âpetty.â
Based on the discourse, I think the overblots that wear their emotions on their sleeves are considered as more âvalid.â The ones often considered as âinvalidâ reveal themselves piece by piece.
Explicit emotional narratives
The overblots below contain stories that are easier to grasp.
đšRiddle
The trigger of the overblot was the Heartslabyul students' repeated rule-breaking. Each time Riddle collared the students, his stress and blot accumulated.
The underlying issue is his motherâs strict upbringing and his belief that rules create order. In Riddleâs flashback, it was explicitly shown that his mother connected rules with safety.
Nearly every player understands Riddle's breaking point even on a first playthrough.
đJamil
The trigger of the overblot was years of serving Kalim. Jamil explicitly states his stress from his servitude before his overblot.
The underlying issue is the lack of freedom and suppressed resentment due to his servitude. This was clearly shown in his flashbacks with how he had to suppress his abilities to never overshadow Kalim and the surrounding adults saying heâd âunderstandâ why he has to do so.
Again, the game directly tells us this.
đMalleus
The trigger is losing Lilia, the person he loves. He explicitly says that he would give the endless dreams as his gift because he wouldnât lose Lilia.
The underlying issue is his fear of abandonment and loneliness. His flashbacks show how he was feared by those around him and how that led to his loneliness since his youth.
Players don't have to infer much because the story repeatedly emphasizes isolation.
The middle ground
đIdia
Idia sits somewhere between these categories.
His grief is obvious. His tone is sad when he talks about human Ortho.
But understanding why he blames himself requires thinking about survivor's guilt and how he's spent years avoiding the world. He never explicitly states the link between losing Ortho and how he spent a long time in isolation. Itâs implied in how he created humanoid Ortho and his social anxiety.
Implicit emotional narratives
These are the overblots that encourage deeper reading in order to understand them.
đŚLeona
The surface reading is that heâs jealous because heâs the second prince.
But underneath that are questions about inherited identity, learned helplessness, expectations, and what happens when someone believes that no amount of effort can overcome the role society has assigned them. His resentment isn't born overnightâit's the accumulation of years spent believing his future was decided before he had any agency.
His dialogue right before his overblot (Book 2, Chapter 26) stood out to me.
The dialogue itself often signals that there's something deeper, but it doesn't necessarily spell out what that deeper issue is. The player has to ask what his disappointment and pain are, or what he implied when he said how anyone could possibly understand. That's why some people stop at âhe's jealous,â while others read it as a crisis of identity and learned helplessness.
đAzul
The surface reading is that Azul is a bullied kid that wants power.
What can be interpreted deeper is his transactional worldview, fear of vulnerability, self-worth becoming dependent on competence and contracts, and belief that if he stops being useful, people won't value him. There's a lot beneath âbullied as a child.â
His overblot isn't framed around one emotionally revealing line. His characterization is spread across Book 3, like constantly referencing contracts, wanting to obtain everyoneâs strength, and hiding his octopus form. Rather than confessing his insecurities outright, Azul consistently expresses them through contracts, negotiations, and the pursuit of power. The player has to infer that these behaviors stem from a fear of becoming powerless and vulnerable again.
đVil
The surface reading is that he was jealous of Neige.
On a deeper level, there's the entertainment industry, where Vil has spent years being cast as the villain despite his relentless effort. There's his perfectionism, which leads him to believe that any flaw is unacceptable. And there's the symbolic role of Neige, who represents effortless success; he represents the idea that natural charm can trump over years of disciplined work.
His dialogue about him unable to forgive himself after his attempt to poison Neige (Book 5, Chapter 62) is one of the biggest clues that Vil's overblot isn't just about jealousy.
If the issue were simply âI wanted to beat Neige,â that line wouldn't carry as much weight. Instead, it reveals a contradiction: Vil spent his entire life pursuing beauty, not just physical beauty, but elegance, dignity, discipline, professionalism. Then, in one moment, he becomes the very thing he despises. His breakdown isn't only that he lost. It's also the fact that he betrayed the ideals heâs lived by. That adds another emotional layer.
Why fandom sympathizes differently
People often sympathize with stories they understand immediately. Interpretive stories leave room for assumptions.
Fans may fill in those gaps differently. For example, maybe Leona is just lazy. Maybe Azul just likes manipulating people. And maybe Vil is just jealous. These aren't necessarily wrong observations. They're just incomplete because they stop at the catalyst of the overblots.
On the other hand, some fans may mistake difficulty of interpretation for weakness of writing. Readers naturally sympathize with stories they immediately understand. If a story requires more interpretation, some people stop at the surface-level explanation.
Conclusion
After revisiting each overblot, I don't think âvalidityâ depends on how dramatic a character's suffering is. Instead, I think it often depends on how easily we can understand their emotional logic. Some overblots hand us that logic directly, while others ask us to uncover it ourselves.
Perhaps asking whether an overblot is âvalidâ isn't the most interesting question. A more interesting question might be why certain overblots feel immediately understandable while others divide the fandom. Is it because of the writing itself? Our own experiences? Or the way we interpret each character's motivations?
I didnât read into the deeper levels of some of the overblots immediately. When I first read Vil's overblot, I understood it as jealousy toward Neige. It wasn't until I revisited the chapter that I started noticing how much of his breakdown stemmed from perfectionism, industry expectations, and the pressure he placed on himself.
Feel free to share your opinions about the overblots in the comments! Which overblot did you sympathize with immediately, and which one took longer to understand? Has your opinion on any overblot changed over time? If so, what changed it? The comments donât have to answer these questions. Please share your thoughts!
i was going to put this in the tags but realized itâd be too unwieldy there oops
itâs interesting to me that ppl find Azulâs motivations hard to understand, but thatâs prob just bc i do/did share many of the same insecurities so he made a lot of sense to me instantly lmao
it started with the bullying, but itâs not just about the bullying. the bullying prompted Azul to develop a series of unhealthy core beliefs about himself:
- who he âtrulyâ is, is a âuseless octotwerpâ and this will never truly change no matter what he does, itâs just something inherently wrong with him
- therefore, he needs to compensate for this by developing a cooler facade thatâs more palatable to others in order to be loved, accepted, praised, etc
- he doesnât have what it takes to form that facade himself (see pt 1), so he has to steal from others
- if he ever loses this facade, people will see him as his âtrueâ self and he will lose all the respect, friendship, etc he gained with said facade and will be bullied and unsafe again â he says part of this openly right before OB when heâs flipping out over losing his contracts, âiâll just be an octotwerp again!â or something like that
by ch 3, he has spent /years/ stuck in this erroneous worldview and building his contracts
his OB progresses in two stages:
- when Leona destroys his contracts, i.e. destroying what Azul thinks makes himself valuable and attractive to others, Azul starts going on a rampage stealing peopleâs magic left and right
- then the twins return and express disdain/disgust at his behavior. Octatrio fandom largely reads this as Azul feeling rejected/abandoned by the twins, his closest friends, which is a secret fear he had all along, and this abandonment bc he apparently wasnât good enough triggers his OB proper
tbh, iâm actually surprised heâs so calm after OBâing after losing years of hard work and having the vulnerable sides of himself heâs tried so hard to hide being exposed to a bunch of his classmates lol
after his OB, itâs also revealed that Azul is blind to how heâs grown as a person over the years and how he has plenty of âcoolâ traits himself, without his contracts, so he doesnât truly need his contracts to gain what heâs looking for anyway (i think this is pointed out somewhat by Yuu). additionally, heâs also blind to the possibility that people could well just like his âtrueâ self all along (something Floyd alludes to a number of times but Azul seemingly ignores/brushes off).
anyway! i love Azul. he has problems. sorry for the essay

Knowing Savannaclaw could have been in Book 6 and give Leona much more recognition as a leader in book 7 (especially considering how he "rebelled" against the dream Malleus constructed for him) Makes me hate how undervalued and mistreated Leona and the Savannaclaw boys get from the game and fandom.
As someone else reblogged, it also makes sense for Idia and Ignihyde to be in book 2, because that would pit Idia against Azul. Two somewhat friends from the same club fighting control over the will of people's choices and lives.
I get Idia and Malleus have a relationship that goes beyond the outside of Twisted Wonderland itself, hence Maleficent and Hades being toxic yuri being absolutely delightful. And Idia and Malleus have a connection about being the lonely ones in a family that shunned them away as society has done.
But like.. that fits Leona and Malleus being put together MORE PERFECTLY! Green eyed non human royals who have been neglected or orphaned by their parents, looked down on by others for not being picture perfect princes. They only have a handful of friends they rely on, then lash out when those friendships are threatened. Both selfish, both lonely, both angry at the state of the world for being unfair. Both overblot when everyone turned against him.
If anyone could really defeat Malleus against his own game, it's Leona who has been trying to beat him for years now. But the victory would not even be sweet, it would be bitter because Leona would come to realize the person he despise someone almost exactly like him. Just wanting to be loved and not casted away.
For Leoide would be even sweeter for them both. Idia knowing what it's like to feel like he's backed into a corner a sees Leona coming to his wits end when the little things he had end up slipping past him. Leona also in Idia's Book 2 to use his intelligence as his strength of defense to fight against the darkness, and Idia fighting Leona to show the same advice applies to him too. Idia being there to support his boyfriend and reminding him that there is value to be harnessed within him, and just as he was there to show Idia he could be free from the prison of of his misery, so can Leona from the prison that prevented him from his ambition.
