When she was younger she might have said that she was forced by circumstance into the choices she made, but as she aged she has become more accepting of herself and her past. As easy as it was then to feel like a victim of the path she was set on then, she recognizes that she had other options, and she chose the easiest at the time for her. Meditation and self-reflection are practices in her daily life, they help her find balance and self-awareness. There have been a lot of failures to bring her to the place that she is in, she chose compassion and self-love over bitterness. That attitude still gets challenged in her daily life, but she is in a beautiful, loving relationship with herself so forgiveness is a lot easier to find.
