Purpose in Journey: The Beginning
Description: close up of SOLDIER’s ears, eyes, profile of face, etc.
Symbolism: past experiences rather than physically showing dangers of war
Situation: PTSD flashback sequence (rely on effects, close up footage, audio)
Shoot Location: Campus on 6th or 7th floor
Audio: sirens, bullets firing, running, shouts, yelps, panting, impact and explosions…
VFX: footage cuts/edits, color correction for warm vs cool, audio volume intensity increases towards end of scene before turning silent and cutting to black
Purpose in Journey: Fixing Self
Description: SOLDIER’s face, eyes flutter awake. Lying in bed from previous flashback in hospital setting. Sits up in daze of location. Pan to see no arm. DOCTOR’s face, upper body shots.
Symbolism: seeking treatment to resolve haunted past.
Situation: Checked in at hospital in prep for procedure. Looking over site of old wound, taking notes about condition. Sharing results on ipad

Purpose in Journey: Further Effects of PTSD / Setting of Past
Description: SOLDIER walks across dirt/field. Hears phantom sounds of a battlefield. Falls to ground, clearly at unrest or disturbed by sounds and flashbacks. Remembers arm being shot/hit by bullets/grenade.
Symbolism: the reoccurrence of the event that destroyed his arm
Situation: PTSD flashback sequence

Props: Military costume, fake blood (maybe?)
Shoot Location: Park Field (dirt areas)
Audio: sirens, bullets firing, running, shouts, yelps, panting, impact and explosions, heartbeat…
VFX: footage cuts/edits, color correction for warm vs cool, Nuke color grading for scenery change, audio volume intensity, possible dust particles and/or painted textures for cards in Nuke/After Effects
Purpose in Journey: Point in which the past connects to present
Description: Will connect/meld with Sequence #3 (will feel like one scene). SOLDIER lying in bed suffering from pain. Bed/SOLDIER transition into current hospital (warm to cool). Doctor calms SOLDIER and explains/shows notes or app. Prepares him for procedure.
Symbolism: old events juxtaposed with present time
Situation: Flashback of past military Doctor’s office transitioning into present Doctor’s office

Purpose in Journey: Metamorphosis
Description: Procedure of missing arm being replaced by plastic ‘robot’ arm prop. Will need to use masking/match move to add into footage. Once robot arm is in place, ‘skin’ arm (just the real arm) will be masked onto that as well. SOLDIER is lying down flat on white table for procedure
Situation: Bio printer at work remaking and printing SOLDIER’s new arm

Props: robot arm, white table, hospital materials, white curtain sheets
Shoot Location: Campus on 6th or 7th floor
Audio: hospital beeps, breathing, printing + ‘techy’ sounds

Purpose in Journey: Closure
Description: The heartbeat flat lines, all other sounds stop, then SOLDIER + sounds come back as normal
Symbolism: severance of the phantom + rebirth as whole body
Situation: SOLDIER being put to sleep for procedure and waking up in post with new arm
