I love your deltafell blue and yellow art especially your take on blue! Sometimes he as a individual feels a little forgotten about. Do you have any headcanons about them?
As for Deltafell (which I personally see as separate from Defernull), here's how I approached my version of Bluellow.
First of all, they genuinely love each other. Their relationship isn't toxic or self-destructive like people might expectâit's actually quite healthy. I never wanted them to be the kind of lovers who constantly drag each other down while loving and hating one another at the same time. That would have made their relationship far too unstable, and considering how easily overwhelmed Yellow is, it simply wouldn't work.
As for Blue Fell (I'm still debating whether I want to call him Lotus):
I wanted him to be a Fell version rooted more in tragedy than comedy, while still keeping the dramatic aspect that's essential to him.
He's a melancholic artist, though not because of his own suffering. Instead, he's fascinated by the tragedies of others. He sees everyday misfortunes as the perfect source of drama, which feeds into his intrusive nature. At the same time, it also hints at the emotional empathy hidden beneath the image he carefully projects.
Personality-wise, I wanted him to be something of a refined bitch. Someone vicious, almost petty, but restrained enough to preserve his elegant and fatal aura. He values emotional subtlety over emotional outbursts, making him the complete opposite of Yellow, whose feelings are incredibly easy to read. Sometimes I imagine Blue actually prefers when other people are the ones being honest and emotional, so that he doesn't have to be.
To me, Blue and Yellow's relationship can be summed up like this:
Blue loves Yellowânot the sheriff he stubbornly insists on being, but the clumsy, slightly naïve Yellow underneath.
Yellow wears a mask too, but he can never keep it on for nearly as long as Blue can. He's easily influenced and reacts emotionally far more than most people. And it's precisely that instinctive honesty that makes Yellow so precious in Blue's eyes.
Blue clings to a misguided idea of integrity. He believes integrity comes from discipline and from presenting a constant, unwavering image of loyalty.
Yellow, on the other hand, isn't really afraid of making a fool of himselfâin fact, he does it all the time without even realizing it. He's quick to admit his mistakes or awkward slip-ups, whereas Blue still owes Green money and simply avoids ever bringing it up again.
To Blue, Yellow is a light that shines without ever trying to.
In this version, there is no Mr. Butterflyâthere is Sir Damselflies.
I came up with the idea while looking for an insect other than a butterfly to associate with Blue. Dragonflies immediately came to mind; they're beautiful enough to rival butterflies in my eyes. But I eventually settled on damselflies instead, since they feel even more graceful and elegant, which suits Blue much better.
From there, I started building Blue's entire environment around them.
Damselflies prey on smaller insects, so the Trash Gang often ends up being captured like tiny bugs caught by a predator.
Damselflies and dragonflies generally live around wetlands, rivers, and lakes, so Blue's territory became an extension of Yellow's traditional gardens. It's a place where the water from onsen and Yellowâs streams flows together, creating an ecosystem filled with algae and aquatic plants before eventually spilling into the marshlands below.
As for Blue practicing aerial hoop dancing... honestly, that idea just came to me out of nowhere. He could just as easily perform other forms of aerial dance without the hoop.
For Yellow Fell (I'm also thinking of renaming it Schlosser, after the yellow-flowering cactus.)
He came together much more quickly. He's basically the original Yellow, except he tries to present himself as a cool sheriff rather than simply being a good cowboy. I'd even say his dream was always to become a great sheriff, but since he has no idea how to actually achieve that, he overplays the whole "I'm the law" attitude.
It could even be a nod to the Western movies he might have "watched" on Asgore's TV (the Clint Eastwood onesâwink, wink), shaping his equally misguided and romanticized view of justice. That would explain why he's so subjective in his decisions and why he's incapable of arresting Blueâbecause, at the end of the day, that's simply not something Yellow is capable of doing.
Personality-wise, he's still very much Yellow, except he's much harsher in the judgments he hands down, more brutal whenever he's playing the role of sheriff, and noticeably more exhausted whenever he takes the hat off.
Yellow is still someone who loves life, but he's less energetic than his original counterpart. He experiences every emotion so intensely that his mood is constantly shifting, and it wears him out to the point where you can literally see the exhaustion on his face. At the same time, he admires Blue just as much for his ability to stay composed as he pities him for bottling everything up.
Within their relationship, Yellow is the happiest manâwell, flowerâin the world, and it shows.
He genuinely loves Blue for his natural grace, the devotion he pours into his performances, and because he was probably the first person to recognize the emotional empathy hidden beneath Blue's sharp remarks.
Blue has never mocked Yellow or used his emotional openness against him. While Aqua finds Yellow too emotional and Orange enjoys teasing him over his reactions, Blue never does. That's what strengthens not only Yellow's admiration for him, but also his respect.
Whenever Yellow has his low moments, Blue never hesitates to help him back onto his feet. Yellow is deeply grateful for thatâas grateful as he is simply to have Blue by his side. Because of this, he often feels like he owes Blue something, even when he really doesn't. As a result, he naturally takes on all kinds of tasks centered around Blue, whether it's searching for bluegrass or protecting Blue's "Integrity"âhis flowers, for example.
I never really found anything I wanted to change regarding his visual themes. At first, I considered filling his area with cacti, but it never really fit the image of a Japanese garden.
Anyway, I hope this is enough to give you a good understanding of my little Fell couple.
