There’s a BAFTA-winning, Oscar-nominated documentary that posted Kermit gulag
Mr Nobody Against Putin is a documentary about a Russian teacher that documents - and attempts to subvert - the state propaganda being used in Russian schools to justify the Ukraine war. The guy secretly recorded a lot of footage and had to be snuck out of Russia for his own safety, and so this could be known. It’s been receiving critical accolades and heaps of praise, including the aforementioned award wins/nominations.
My boyfriend just watched it in a theater and noticed something. At one point the movie references the guy who implemented the gulag system, following up on a comment from a history teacher, and this is the image they picked to represent it.
It’s fucking Kermit gulag. They grayscaled an image of the gulag scene from Muppets Most Wanted and used it to illustrate an actual Soviet gulag, alongside actual historical pictures and footage, in a deathly serious documentary. See for yourself, 32 minutes in. There is no reference or citation to the Muppets/Disney in the credits so this seems like a genuine fuckup in the editing room.
grammys mostly got it right this year so that’s good. i appreciate when they do that
I liked GNX a lot but Let God Sort em Out was easily the best rap album of the year. I also liked Chromakopia more but that one is closer
i agree but also i think it’s fine to just give it to the most important artist
Normally I’d agree but Kendrick already has so many grammys and this may be Clipse last chance to get one
it was the best album but honestly it’s a relief it didn’t win because imagine that happening 2 days before it came out that pusha t is in the files (allegedly in minecraft etc etc)
Yeah this is a good point. Sucks for Malice. AFAIK hes not implicated at all, just his brother
they should’ve avoided the issue altogether and given every award to me personally
They’d reward me first for having better taste

“Now everybody do the propaganda” while they make finger guns is WILD
my reading of Wake Up Dead Man is that Benoit Blanc's mother has recently died and his approach to the entire investigation is informed by this
when introducing himself to Father Jud, Blanc says "my mother is—was very religious" which is not a slip you make if your mother has been dead for a long time (compare to Knives Out where he says "my father was a police detective" with no hesitation)
his litany against Christianity in that same scene feels very personal, which could be for any number of reasons, but I think the line I mentioned in the previous bullet point is meant to provide context for it; he's expressing anger towards his mother and her loyalty to the church during her lifetime
similarly, when Blanc has his "road to Damascus" moment and his speech about giving grace to those who deserve it the least but need it the most, he's not really (or at least not only) talking about Martha; he's realized that he needs to find forgiveness and grace for his mother as well
Blanc's mother being dead would make him a thematic parallel to Monsignor Wicks, whose own unresolved trauma with his deceased mother informs his hyper-religious worldview (which stands in opposition to Blanc's hyper-rationalist one)
it also seems very intentional that when Father Jud prays for Louise, it's because her mother is dying and she doesn't want their last words exchanged to be in anger
I think I'm really onto something here
Feeling immensely conflicted on this day; 25 is such a big number it’s frankly scary.
As someone that never expected to make it to 18, I should see turning 25 as a small miracle, and I do. But there’s a bit of an overwhelming something attached to this number specifically.
Essentially 1/3 done with my lifetime. Unfortunately im gonna be thinking about this all day.

guy who wins at poker not by being stoic but by bursting into tears every time he looks at his cards, just full hysterical breakdown every round and you gotta peer through the void of theatre kid problems to figure it out
HOBBES vs. TIGGER cage match TO THE DEATH say goodbye to your childhood because ONE! WILL!! DIE!!!!
Picturing two tiger plushies just kind of sitting there facing each other in Thunderdome
i am picturing it
Hobbes and Tigger would find some aspect of tigerhood to bond over, but Calvin would put Christopher Robin in the ground.
I’m a big fan of people finding a spiritual or religious practice that works for them but if you’re required to pay money to a particular person or buy a certain thing regularly from a certain place I don’t think that’s a spiritual practice. You may have been scammed.
Like I really don’t think that paying a thousand dollars to go on a meditation retreat is mandatory for your journey to enlightenment. I really don’t.
No matter what kind of religion or type of spirituality you wanna get into there are free resources and/or cheap one time purchases that’ll get you there. I’ve never bought a Bible for myself I don’t think. They just kind of end up at my house. I got my Buddha statue for like 12 bucks. Like don’t listen to people who are trying to get you to buy their courses. The universe will hear your screams whether you have paid or not.

The black parade is such a good album. We can even appreciate it from the first times of listening to it. But as we listen more, and start to know the lyrics, and we are more familiar with the sounds, we discover more.
The first time I listened to it, my favorite songs were "Welcome to the Black Parade" and "I Don't Love You", which are still among my faves (although tbh at this point half of the songs are among my faves).
But as I kept listening, I started discovering the beauty of "The End.", "Dead!" and "This Is How I Disappear". Maybe the main reason why I love these ones is because I ADORE a good electric guitar.
After a while, one that became a big favourite, and still is, is "Famous Last Words". This one is mainly because of the lyrics, I love the story and why Gerard wrote it. It also has a personal meaning, the lyric "I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone" feel very deep to me and reassuring.
And finally now, after months of starting to listen to this album, my new fave is "Disenchanted". I adore the lyrics and I'm so grateful to Mickey for fighting for this song.
Anyway, I know it's common for this kind of thing to happen with albums, but I just wanted to highlight how good this album is, and how each song is beautiful in it's own way.
ATM my favorites are (I think) "This Is How I Disappear", "I Don't Love You", "Famous Last Words" and "Disenchanted".
Not even mentioning Cancer once is criminal
