It’s strangely intimate.  It goes on long enough that they can’t keep performing the whole time.  They go through moods, through states of being (I hear I have 3 hours of sleeping on a plane to look forward to!  And the weird thing is this is kind of exciting??), through ideas.  You hear anecdotes sometimes repeated.  It leads you as a listener to feel like you know them in ways you can only know people by spending time with them.  Or, more than that sometimes, because it’s not like you are having brief interactions where neither let their guard down.  It is a whole show about letting your guard down.

I just think it’s a cool example of what can be done in the medium.  It’s interesting how personal it is, and that it’s personal in a way that I haven’t really seen elsewhere.  It isn’t cutting deep, or telling hard truths, usually.  Though it does get there a little.  It isn’t about exposing pain or secrets, but about exposing basic, unadorned humanity.  Just who they are to be around.

Also I have found it a useful show for times when I do not spend as much time around other people.  It gives a bit of the feeling of being social.  Helpful for people like me who are sick and can’t always have a huge social life!

I was joking with markledgerwood last night about how great it is to be friends with illustrators because you can just bug them to make stuff for you. Mark started demanding that I make music for him and write a house theme song for him, etc. etc. While that helped me understand his point of view, I also did write that song.

This isn’t Aloha, but it’s gonna be a while before the next Aloha. 

The After Party lived up to its free-wheeling billing again, as we taped right after the in-studio viewing party. We crammed cast and crew into the Room for Error, while we flooded the lines with callers, including a LIVE interview conducted by Chris Gethard with Timothy Simons aka Jonah from Veep, where Chris drops a BOMBSHELL of a revelation on a big impetus to the creation of TCGS. If this is really is the last one, we made it count. 

Thank you to everyone who stayed up and called and interacted with the show. Thank you especially to everyone who sat in that sweat box to record Thursday nights. We’ll see you when we see you!
