Deconstructive & Abstract Bird Portraits by Jon Shaw

Artist Jon Shaw creates a series of beautiful bird portraits envisioned through a merge of watercolor and rough sketching. The color and movement created by the different levels of texture give his wildlife character and emotions. Where the art lacks in precision and subtlety, Shaw compensates through movement and flow of his penmanship.

Jon Shaw shares the how his art manifests on his website, saying “My work explores the processes of deconstruction and assemblage, informed by my experience as a graphic designer. Using a series of expressive and uninhibited paint, collage and texture applications, I create a loose and abstract structure upon which to assemble detailed ink drawings. I selectively interpret and rework different layers until they are harmoniously integrated.”
