Some people cited one reason they don’t make more racially diverse characters even though they’d like to is because they don’t know how to colour darker skin without it looking weird. I had the same problem when I started out and made some horrendous mistakes so I know your feels and made a skin colour chart for you. It’s not perfect and doesn’t cover every tone under the sun (added in other random colours because I got carried away with it) but I hope it’ll help get you started.

No, you’re not racist but at the same time you’re hurting your progress by allowing yourself to become comfortable with the fear of making mistakes. Just give it a go. (And don’t care about the unfounded prejudiced opinions of random strangers on the internet, what are they going to do? Type at you?)
