if i was ever a failing pop artist i would simply start releasing ambient music under a mystery alias with a polarizing sound and image and build a new and fresh cult following. i could still make money off of my failing pop persona, but use the funds to make insane visuals for my ambient music where people respect me as an artist again. if i felt crazy enough i would maybe even start a rumour that my ambient alias doesn’t like my pop alias, maybe even encourage hate towards it with my fans. this hate train could propel my ambient alias to success, while being the final straw for my pop persona’s inevitable demise. then i could fully transition into focusing on my ambient music, kill the pop career, and live happily with my weird but cool fan base who love me and my music but have no idea who i am.
