Topic of Conversation: Spelling Mistakes in Sigils
I was scrolling through the witchcraft tag when a thought hit me - if you made a spelling mistake in a statement of intent, how would that impact a sigil? For instance, using “effect” instead of “affect” in a sigil for “withdrawal symptoms do not affect me.” Or just general spelling mistakes that turn a regular word into one that doesn’t exist. The intent is broken - it isn’t as desired, because the words are different, and won’t bring about any effects as intended, if at all.
Thoughts?
Tbh this is part of the reason my sigils aren't based on sentences and are instead just random symbols I assign intent to. My Will doesn't need to know how to spell in English. Though, potentially, that same concept would render spelling mistakes exactly as valid as correct spelling. The symbol you create has the meaning you ascribe to it, not necessarily dependent on the exact letters you may or may not form it with. Unless you believe otherwise. Then that's probably how yours will turn out. Magic has a habit of explicitly not working when you don't believe it will, in my experience. (Ymmv of course.)
Book of Shadows
Ok first of all I call it a Book of Shadows because “grimoire” is a French word and when I think of French, witchcraft dosn’t spring to mind.
Ok I’d like to say how my circle, family, and myself feel about books of shadows…this is your sacred book, the book you record YOUR (not others’) spells, and poultice recipes and information you have either found our experienced…we don’t think it’s acceptable to use a spiral notebook like everyone says because they are plastic, have lined paper, and are just cheap and ratty…if you aren’t taking you craft serious enough to get a proper book (which at most could cost $2 at dollarama) then just don’t get one at all…also you should put the most work you can into each page because 1) your going to look back on that page eventually and you’ll regret it if you don’t make it beautiful. DO NOT rip out pages, your book should be treated like a living thing, would you rip your finger off? No. Also posting your book for everyone to see kind of defeats the purpose of it being a Book of SHADOWS. Like I said these are just my loved ones’ and my own views.
You and your loved ones sound like a bunch of judgemental dicks otherwise you wouldn’t care what other people do or don’t do in their own practice that ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
But that’s, just, like, my opinion, man.
Yeah we are pretty judgemental but that’s not the point. The point is, if your practicing the craft you might as well do it properly.
Your views of “properly” aren’t shared by everyone, and that’s just something you’re gonna have to get over. Nobody gives a shit what you think of their practice, quit being an ass.

I am not a good person to ask where to start honestly, but I SHALL MAKE THIS PUBLIC AND HOPE MY AWESOME FOLLOWERS SHALL LINK AND REBLOG WITH COMMENTS AND LINKS AND STUFF.
Honestly my best suggestion is to learn to meditate and do it often. Connect with your inner power or whatever god(s) you hail to (if any) on a regular basis. From there, any magical and/or religious/spiritual work should be easier and more intuitive to you. A solid foundation is the best beginning to any practice.
Witchcraft has specific traditions. It’s not a free for all term just because you have a spiritual practice.
What specific traditions does witchcraft have?
