The idea of her just tossing it away as a show of dumping her relationship with Eren down the drain kinda undermines everything I’ve come to understand about her character and imo would not be a good or even interesting development for her.

To her the scarf had always been a source of comfort and a reminder of the beauty in the cruel world. She’s had a very idealized version of Eren in her mind, believing that he is a wholly kind person. Couple this with her very childlike desire to bring back old times when they lived peacefully in Shiganshina as children. And…

To me, discarding the scarf after questioning who Eren is and her relationship with him, and who she is as a person, is most likely a display of her dropping the idealism and the childish innocence that she clings so tightly to. It’s time to grow up and move on. She is her own person free of Eren. It is up to her to accept Eren’s duality and to choose whether she still fights for him or not. To her, she has to know for sure she is making her own choices. And for once to not have it rooted in what she wants to go back to, but rather what she wants to move forward to.
