My name is Ahmed. My wife Hadeel and I dreamed of a simple life together. We married in February 2023, and now Hadeel is pregnant, which makes our situation even more urgent. We had just settled into our cozy apartment in northern Gaza when everything changed on October 7, 2023, when war shattered our lives. We lost our home and my job, and after a series of evacuations, we ended up in a tent by the sea in Khan Younis.

Amid the devastation of Gaza, five children stood before a broken electric pole leaning on the ground. They decided to turn it into a balancing game, competing to walk across it without falling.

Their laughter echoed every time one of them wobbled or nearly fell, cheering each other on with enthusiasm. After playing, they sat beside the pole, dreaming of real amusement parks far away from the rubble.

Despite the dusty sky and the destruction surrounding them, they realized that their dreams and laughter were stronger than all they had lost.

On a cold night on the outskirts of Gaza, I sat in the corner of my tattered tent, watching the rain seep through the punctured roof. The tent, which had become my shelter after the war destroyed my home, could neither protect me from the cold nor the rain.

As the water crept in and the ground turned to mud, I felt helpless and fearful that this fragile refuge might collapse. Memories of my old home, with its scent of safety and colorful walls, haunted me. Despite the pain and despair, I tried to hold on, even as I silently drowned with every drop of rain.

The Hanging Teddy Bear

As I wandered through the rubble of Gaza City, where destruction covered the streets and buildings, my attention was drawn to a strange sight amidst the debris. There was a large teddy bear hanging from the balcony of one of the destroyed buildings, as if it refused to fall, defying the surrounding devastation.

I approached the place slowly, my eyes fixed on that teddy bear. It was dusty from the explosion, yet its childish features still carried a spark of innocence and hope. I wondered to myself: To whom did this teddy bear belong? Perhaps to a little boy who slept with it every night, or to a girl who entrusted it with her dreams and secrets.

I felt tears streaming down my face uncontrollably. The teddy bear was not just a toy; it was a silent witness to the suffering of an entire city. In that place, where life was cornered by death, this teddy bear stood as a symbol of resilience and untold stories.

I couldn’t leave it there, abandoned and alone. I decided to take it with me. Perhaps its loss weighed heavily on a young heart somewhere, or perhaps it carried within its threads a memory of hope that must live on.

The Plane of Hope in Gaza's Sky

On a dark night amidst the bombing and destruction, a different kind of plane appeared in Gaza's sky—not a warplane, but a relief plane carrying aid and hope. The plane dropped relief boxes with small parachutes, containing food, medicine, and clothes.

An elderly woman held one of the boxes as if it were a treasure, while a young man distributed milk and clothes among neighbors. Inside each box was a message that read: "We are with you, and we will not forget you."

Despite the ongoing war, Gaza felt, even for a moment, that the world still remembered it. That plane was more than just a delivery of aid; it was a beacon of life amid the darkness.
