Stupid Audi allroad
Posted from: CA, USADocumenting the demise of my Audi.
During the last rainstorm my allroad flooded. A plugged drain caused the battery compartment to flood, which conveniently overflows through the fresh air intake into the passenger compartment. As if that little bit of engineering stupidity wasn't good enough, Audi placed the eps / abs module directly underneath the flow, protected by a flimsy piece of plastic. Naturally that shorted out immediately. The result was a full house of abs, stability, brake and ride height warning lights. Turns out that this is a rather common problem with the a6 body.
After peeling up the carpet and sponging up the several inches of standing water I unplugged the eps module and took it inside. After removing the aluminum cover I found that the chips in the lower half of the board had shorted and corroded in the flood. On a lark I took my toothbrush and removed the corrosion like so much unwanted plaque. After all it's a 1250$ part and I might as well have some fun. I reattached the cover, reinstalled the eps module, and lo and behold my abs and stability control work again. Wow!
The ride height warning is still on, I'll fix that next.
And then i have to figure out how to dry out my carpet and get rid of this dirty sock smell.
I'm never buying an Audi again.
