the pitt will be like and now here's another storyline teased that implies really big and nuanced things about a woman and her relationship to another woman. anyway, we will now go back to one of four white men who, let's all remember, have a conflict that we will have to demonstrate to you using 50 different lines over the course of a season that deliver the same message without actually advancing anything. you will never come back to that one thing about the women.

The Pitt’s misogyny is interesting, really, because the women have screen time. They’re competent doctors. They are well-written in a general sense, i.e. people with dimension and personality. The misogyny is deeper than any of that, and it’s harder to see: the writers reach for biology when they want to give a woman depth because biology is where they think women’s depth lives. The show casts women — and multiple women of color, in particular — in prominent roles and then gives them stories about their uteruses, their eggs, their panic attacks, their bleeding. All the while, The Pitt gives men stories about what it means to lead and what integrity costs. <...> The show has the same instinct: it can see gender bias when an EMT does it, but it cannot see gender bias when its own writers do it. <...> Each one of these reveals the same default: competence is male, and women who demonstrate it earn his surprise.

one of the best pieces of writing I’ve ever read, and the show analysis is absolutely spot on. highly recommend putting any biases aside and actually giving this a read.
love when my show talks about healthcare disparities disproportionately affecting people of color and then writing off their character of color and the top trending posts are gifs of the few white people in the cast. Just love it.

and, if i may... i think what's been the most telling about not just rr but many other white writers writing characters of color, is how obvious it is that they did not expect anyone to like/identify with these characters. people should obviously be identifying with dr. robby, not samira. why is there so much outrage about how samira was treated? they weren't supposed to care about her. you were supposed to go in agreeing with dr. robby. tlg was supposed to be a book about ilya rozanov being very sad and his boyfriend not noticing. why are people identifying with the boyfriend? why are people empathizing with his experience when i wrote him as the one doing something wrong? why are people contradicting my narrative, in which i was very clear about who is the correct party?
why do i, by extension, have to care about these characters that i wrote to augment my favorite white guy's story, because they've been received well by the audience? that's not how it was supposed to happen. people are focusing on the wrong thing. and you can feel their disdain about it.
