name/alias: matias reyes, mat, crow date of birth: nov. 12th. age: dependent. between 28 - 32. gender: male. pronouns: he/him. sexuality: bisexual, bordering aromantic. eyes: brown. hair: black. build: somewhere between mesomorph and endomorph. strong and broad though not intensely refined. height: 6' 0" nationality: chilean/american relatives: luciana reyes, deceased. mateo reyes, deceased. occupation: current member of the bsaa's special cases response team where he's loaned out to other entities in the bioterrorism scene as extra man power. though, with his reputation, the bsaa often send him on the shitty, bottom of the barrel jobs just to get him out of their hair. aware of the bsaa's gradual descent into corruption, he also doubles as a mole for those outside of the company - typically hws, but can be plot dependent.

background: trigger warnings for substance abuse (drugs &. alcohol), very briefly mentioned child abuse (physical &. sexual). to make a very long story short, matias was born in chile to luciana and mateo reyes. when he was only 4 months old luciana, a scientist working for umbrella, decided to make the move from concepción to america due to fears that the work she was doing for the company wasn't for the reasons she signed on for. worried that, should they discover she'd started a family beneath their noses, they would eliminate any and all distractions that might affect her work, she uprooted their lives to move in the hope that she could live a normal life with her husband and child.

at five years old, however, mat awoke to find every trace of his mother gone. photos missing from frames, her closet void of personal items, even her favourite mug was missing from the kitchen counter. unbeknownst to both mateo and matias, she had left because of worries that umbrella had found her. though with no note left, nor any inkling as to where she was or if she would he back, the reyes household fell into disarray.

having not wanted to move and not knowing the reason why, which led to plenty of arguments while luciana was still present, mateo fell into substance abuse weeks after her departure. despite their tumultuous relationship after the move, he loved his wife more than anything - which is why he went ahead with it. now without her, and left with a son who reminded him of her and her betrayal, his own loathing for being in a place that was still majorly unfamiliar took a hold in the form of an almost crippling depression.

matias tried his best to look to the future. he hoped his mom would return some day and he vowed that he'd never become like his dad - who began to spend most his days in drunken stupors until the drink wasn't enough. still having to provide for himself, though caring less and less about matias by the day, his father began to use cocaine as a way to gear himself up for days where he still had to go to work but had opted to spend the evening prior drinking. it worked, but every little thing continued to drive mat away into his own unhealthy habits.

by eleven years old mat had his own issues with alcohol, even after so many years of promising himself he'd be nothing like the man his father was. curiosity got the better of him, as it does with many children left to their own devices - what was so enticing about it that made him disregard his own son in favour of getting blackout every evening. another part of it was rebellion - arguments with his dad were the few interactions they'd have, and despite how much he hated him, he was still his father and mat still had a childish craving for some kind of relationship with him. even if that came in the form of screaming arguments and beatings thanks to missing beer or liquor bottles.

with nothing to drive him matias began to flunk off school, spending most of his days out on the streets because it was better than being at home. though this had it's own detriments to him as it's where his issues with drugs became a problem. strangers on the street, older people who had their own shitty lives that led them to where they are, would prey on him. encouraging him to try drugs under the guise of them being helpful. between the age ten and sixteen mat had issues with cocaine, alcohol, weed, nicotine and a very brief stint with methamphetamines. mat, deep in his addictions, would often run drugs for local dealers to get cash for his own substances - even sometimes going as far as using himself as payment to get his high. sometimes he'd steal what he wanted because he'd learnt to be quick and quiet, which would prove to be helpful in his work later down the line.

at seventeen he was found by barry burton in a classic situation of wrong place, wrong time. waiting in a shady warehouse for his next fix, it was raided by the bsaa under the assumption of it housing potential virus' and bioterrorists. mat's presence there would've been enough to incriminate him, but barry - with kids of his own - couldn't bring himself to believe he had anything to do with it. so he stuck his neck out for him. got matias into a 6 month rehab programme and three years of community college to finish his education. when that was over, barry vouched for him so he could get a job within the bsaa.

personality: matias is insufferable. being left by his mother at such a young age and having a father who didn't care for him enough to stay sober has resulted in him having issues with trust and abandonment. mat appears to take nothing seriously - even his job. he makes jokes to distract from how lonely he is and he flirts like it's a second language. he uses being an apparent asshole as a way to keep people at arms lengths - if they view him as nothing but a sleaze who's bad at his job, then they won't attempt to foster any kind of relationship with him, therefore saving him the heartbreak when they inevitably leave later down the line.

he's arrogant, shameless, boisterous, and lazy. relationships are often sexual in nature and last no more than two weeks because it's the most he can handle without feeling trapped and overwhelmed. he also views himself as good for nothing other than sexual gratification, and believes that it's the only way he can truly be loved because when people see the 'real him' he fears that they would run for the hills. friendships are not unheard of once you're able to get past how evasive he can be when it comes to anything personal, alongside the almost constant stream of flirty comments.

matias also harbours a lot of self loathing. mostly for the things he did in his youth that he's not proud of, for how easily he fell into his father's footsteps despite how adamant he'd been that they would be nothing alike. of course all of this is hidden beneath his arrogance and larger - than - life personality.

however, beneath it all, matias has a big heart. he cares dearly for the people around him, even despite how he pushes them away when they get too close. he often remembers the little things most people forget while brushing it off as simply having a good memory. he'll always put himself on the line - whether it's in a dangerous situation or something seemingly minor. despite his demeanour he is great at his job, which is why the bsaa hesitates to let him go - as he is the perfect candidate for the shittier jobs.

he's very sociable, though it is a way to hide how lonely he is considering his habit of isolating himself from people as a form of protection. he's altruistic when it comes to people he does care for, often times at a detriment to himself. he'll often put himself in harms way - though this does come down to his own suicidal tendencies - if he thinks he can help/save someone he figures is more deserving of life.
