RvB: Home - Things to Notice (4/4)
4. Lil Neat Things And Inspirations
There really isnāt much to this one, just some cool little things I stuck in there and wanted to point out
This is a reference to one of my favorite lines from @sedimentarydearwatson ās fic House Rules which reads
āDo you remember the fires, Tucker?ā
āDo you want to fires back?ā
āNo, I donāt want the fires back.ā
This first bit is a tribute to a fic by @illumynare called First Name Agent Last Name Washington , which happens to be the first fic I ever read. It really stressed the Wash isnāt Curch vibes that Tucker had going on, and was a major inspiration for Tuckerās mindset at the beginning. Another scene from that fic that I included was that canon scene where Caboose calls Wash a friend for the first time. I never really saw the significance of that scene u til I read that fic.
I ended up putting a lot of references to my favorite RvB fic of all time Long Road Back To Good by saltsanford. Something I took from it was the scene where Wash teaches Tucker how to do knife stuff. In the fic, itās a disarming technique, but I couldnāt fit that in the time I had in the song lol. The last thing I pulled from LRBTG would be that once scene where Wash is like: So this is all you guys do, and Tucker is like, āSometimes we go start shit with the redsā¦..wanna go start shit with the reds?ā
This fic was what made me want to make the lyric comic in the first place, and the quote about home in the fic is what chose the song. It reads:
āHome? he asks out loud, or maybe just thinks to himself. He could never decide if home was a place or a group of people, but it doesnāt matter now, because he has neither.ā
The next reference is to another saltsanford fic, because I had to, the legendary Tuckington fic: Put My Guns In The Ground. I wanted to keep the lyric comic ship-free, but I couldnāt resist these two concepts from PMGITG. The first one is the audio. I noticed the music video version of Home starts with the sound of rain pattering down, and rain is a huge thing in PMGITG. Essentially the idea was that the rain was the first thing Wash realized was real after the Epsilon incident. I thought it would be nice to include it, so I took the audio from the music video
The second thing is, ironically, itās not about Tucker or Wash, itās actually a Caboose thing. In the fic, Caboose likes to take pictures and put them all around the room. I originally had the idea of have a frame where Caboose was showing Wash his room full of crayon drawings, but I felt like this was more āblue team bonding.ā
PS: yes, Wash drew a cat and is casually covering it up with his other paper (like we have all done at some point). Caboose drew a blue house with himself, Church, and Wash inside and Tucker outside because stupid Tucker. Tucker drew himself, big surprise.
Also, Iāve never actually colored Felix before. Iāll admit he had brown hair in my mind for the longest time, but what can I say? @redvsuwu convinced me otherwise.
And finally, this water fight is a scene of my own. Itās really special to me, I thought of a giant water fight in Crash Site Bravo and thought of the blues sitting, drenched on top of Blue base, relaxed for once and having a good time. I thought it would be perfect to have that be the last scene before Freckles Shake.
