Submissions are now open for our third show!
Anarchy or assimilation; the singularity or the singular; Â simians or cyborgs? As strategies for activist movements and for surviving embodied life, both spatiality and transcendence ask us to give up something for anotherâthey pose a dichotomy between the interior and the exterior, a choice to engage with bounded materiality or to reinvent bodily imaginaries.
Can one live on the edge? at the skin? escape to the inside?
As selves, are bodies livable?
AGENCIES invites proposals by trans and cis women as well as non-binary folks for visual artâincluding installation, performance, video, digital, and virtual artsâas well as prose, poetry, and hybrid works contributing to a discourse of female embodiment in conversation with other dimensions of social identity like race, ability, age, and health.
AGENCIES is seeking works orbiting a scope of concepts including but not limited to: dis/empowerment, modification & mutability, containment, and in/visibility, but the field is unenclosed.
Include a print-quality (preferably tiff) image file of each piece submitted, title, date, materials (if applicable), and a brief defense of the work in relation to this call. Artist statements are not necessary but are welcome.
E-mail a plain-text document or, if applicable, instruct or label visual formatting elements of the work. Due to printing constraints, please limit length to 1,500 words. Written works will be reproduced in full in the AGENCIES zine and displayed at length if possible, but excerpts may be chosen for the show.
This show will be juried. All submissions will receive a receipt notice and a notification of acceptance status by early April.
Deadline for submissions: March 23, 2016
