Wow! Searching down the web's archives, we've found this video, dating back to 1999 (yes, THAT millenium...), showing William (Bill) Lyons & The Dufay Collective, recording tracks for their EP in no other studio but ours. They're playing some of the most bizarre instruments! It's a must watch. Here's a bit of info about the Dufay Collective:

The Dufay Collective is an early-music ensemble from the United Kingdom, specializing in Medieval and Renaissance music. Founded in 1987, it was named after the Renaissance composer Guillaume Dufay. The group is directed by William Lyons. As well as the four regular members there are a number of guest players including: Jacob Heringman, David Miller, Richard Campbell, Nicholas Perry, Emily Askew and Alexis Bennet.

While They've recorded numerous albums of their own materials here they've collaborated with artist Kahimi Karie, a japanese female artist best known for her whispery vocals. Here's a bit about her too:

Mari Hiki (比企真理 Hiki Mari?, born March 15, 1968), better known by her stage name Kahimi Karie (カヒミ・カリィ Kahimi Karii?), is a Japanese Shibuya-kei musician.

Kahimi sings in English, French, and Japanese (among other languages) with whisper-like vocals. A number of her early songs were written for her by Momus. She also has a strong connection to Cornelius, who collaborated on many early works, and whose trendyTrattoria label released many of her EPs in the mid-'90s. Karie currently lives in Tokyo, Japan, though she spent much of her career in Paris.

The Orb are an English electronic music group known for spawning the genre of ambient house. Founded in 1988 by Alex Patersonand KLF member Jimmy Cauty, The Orb began as ambient and dub DJs in London. Its early performances were inspired by ambient and electronic artists of the 1970s and 1980s, most notably Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. Because of its trippy sound, the Orb developed a cult following among clubbers "coming down" from drug-induced highs.[1] The Orb has maintained its drug-related and science fiction themes despite personnel changes, including the departure of Cauty and other Orb members Kris Weston, Andy Falconer, Simon Phillips, and Andy Hughes. Paterson has been the only permanent member, continuing to work as the Orb with the Swiss-German producer Thomas Fehlmann and, later, with Killing Joke's Martin "Youth" Glover and Tim Bran of Dreadzone.[2]

Alex Paterson prides the Orb on manipulating obscure samples beyond recognition on its albums and during its concerts; his unauthorised use of other artists' works has led to disputes with musicians, most notably with Rickie Lee Jones.[3] During its live shows of the 1990s, the Orb performed using digital audio tape machines optimised for live mixing and sampling before switching to laptops and digital media. Despite changes in performance method, the Orb maintained its colourful light shows and psychedelic imagery in concert. These visually intensive performances prompted critics to compare the group to Pink Floyd.[4]

I was born too late to have experienced Orange Juice in real time. Their sound was always a mystery to me, because in the late 90' and early 00's they sounded like nothing else I knew (mind you, that was before Franz Ferdinand broke into the scene).
