location: redford hospital, er department with: savannah decker @cowgcrlsavior
it had been a while since theo had allowed himself to work somewhere that didn’t demand everything from him every second, as well as every ounce of attention. no constant pull back whilst being on call, no inevitable interruption dragging him into the thick of it throughout every hour of his shift. theo had built a career in places that never slept, and cities that thrived on chaos. and now? well, now he found himself with a rare moment of quiet that he was still learning what to do with.
but he’d taken it without question, settling into an empty side room as the evening moved closer. his last patients had been seen to, his charting finished for once without a backlog waiting at the end of a shift. and just.. quiet. which, of course, it didn’t actually last when the door opened, and his gaze lifted, settling on savannah with a flicker of curiosity. “what is it?” he asked after a moment, voice easy, but almost laced with something knowing. “are you here with a problem for me to fix—” there was a brief pause, the corner of his mouth tugging faintly, “or just bored enough to find your way back to me again?”
⸻ Liesl, or rather "Lux" was trying to leave the club stealthily; her shift had finally ended, and she could wait to be in the arms of her little girl. The problem was that the last client was too clingy, literally; he was making her uncomfortable, before things get pass off limits, she ran away, dodging, crawling… Anything so this man would forget about her. She walked backward, looking in the direction of the door, to make sure she wasn't being chased. This is when she nearly stumbled at Astryd, and her cheeks quickly grew crimson. ❛ Sorry! I didn't mean to! I was just… Well… Erhh…. Nevermind. ❜ She was partially embarrassed that she was hiding in a "childish" way from her client. Besides, the last thing she wanted to do was disturb a colleague at work.
astryd’s eyes narrowed almost immediately, chin tipping up just enough as she properly took liesl in now. less what she was saying, more about how she held herself. the tension in it, the things that didn’t quite sit right with her. she pushed off from the wall then, taking one last drag before stubbing the cigarette out against the brick as she closed the distance properly. “you look rattled, babe..” her gaze flicked to the door, then back again, sharper now. “what’s got you skuttling out like the devil’s about to come flying through and drag you back in?” the tone stayed calm, almost teasing even, but there was something coiled underneath it all. a quiet shift and the kind that set her on edge too, just enough for that familiar thread of violence to settle in where it might be needed.
Heels against cracked concrete are a familiar sound to her now, even and steady. She wasn’t looking for Astryd necessarily, but now that she has, she looks a little too downtrodden to just leave her there. It can be easy to fall into a rivalry that pits women against each other in establishments such as this, but Paloma’s never seen the other girls as competition - mostly because this job is a means to an end, also because the other girls are just as hot as she is, and it doesn’t take a genius to get up on the pole especially when the clietele are as… hm… easy as some of the men here are. As a matter of fact, she quite likes Astryd’s intimidating demeanor, makes her wanna earn that approval in the form of a dry look and a quirk of lips just as bad.
“Baby, I can show you peace if you give me ten minutes in the backroom,” she greets cheekily, ignoring her tone, pulling her end of shift cigarette out from the pack of Reds and the lighter in the stocking of her garter, placing it between her lips and leaning against the brick wall opposite Astryd with a glinting look in her eye. She takes a few drags and takes her in, a small tilt to her head - it’s not unusual for the other dancer to carry herself taut, quiet and on guard, she’s found. Still. “Everything okay?” she asks, suddenly a little more serious, less theatrics. “You’re smoking that shit fast as hell, girl. Need a minute?”
she took a moment to properly regard her and exactly who was settling into the space, brow lifting just enough as the initial glare softened into recognition, rather than threat. “i’ll pencil that in for the next time i’m looking to unwind after a shift,” she said, the slight tilt of her head leaving it entirely unclear whether she meant it or not. then, just as quickly as it came, her eyes rolled. “judging the way i smoke should be considered a low blow,” astryd added, entirely unapologetic as she stayed put where she was, still resting against the wall. but her gaze settled on paloma now, quieter, more focused.
“long shift,” she went on, deciding to actually answer for once rather than not, tapping ash from the end of her cigarette with a small, absent flick. “spent mostly entertaining the same men who never quite grasp the basics.. hygiene, manners, or the fact that when i lean in and whisper a threat, i actually mean it.” a vague gesture followed, careless on the surface of it all. “instead, it goes straight to their cocks,” she said flatly, “and that’s how you learn just how weak men really are.”
and still, astryd did laugh then. something low and maybe even tired cutting through the lingering tension rather than easing it any bit. “so, all of that to say.. i’m fucking fine. just hit my limit for the night,” she added, exhaling slowly, “which means whatever plans i had for drinking are ruined by the fact i’d rather not be around most people for the rest of it.” there's a brief pause, her eyes flicking back to paloma. “you’re not included in that,” she clarified, almost as an afterthought. “in case that wasn’t obvious.”
closed starter: natalya & theo ( @aftcrlight )
location: some room at the hospital away from the er, or his place
tw: blood
" it ain't as bad as it looks... " fresh blood dripped down the pale skin of her left arm, a bullet wound barely covered under a leather jacket. " i was going to the er, but the last thing i want is that cunt of a deputy all over my life " natalya strolled into the place, too stubborn to complain from pain.
it wasn't the first time theo handled a wound such as this wound, she often paid him well enough to avoid any complaints. " sorry if i ruined your plans for the night " lips curled in a malicious grin and a faint laugh escaped. " but this is more exciting than anything else you could get up to at a bar" natalya mustered a joke before sitting down, exhausted.
“i think i’ll be the fuckin’ judge of that,” theo muttered, already moving before the words had fully left him and she was following him into the space. his eyes tracked the fresh blood dripping across her skin in something close to a clinical habit. messy, inconvenient, and very fucking likely to ruin his floors. still, he crossed the room to grab his makeshift kit he kept tucked away. reserved for specific cases like this, and his own less than ideal tendencies when they so often arised.
“i’d call you an idiot for that being your reason to avoid a hospital,” he continued on, glancing back over his shoulder at her as he nodded towards a stool by the kitchen, “but i can’t exactly pretend i wouldn’t make the same call if i were in the position.” he paused a moment, “still. i’m glad you chose to actually come here instead of bleeding out god knows where and coming to me when it was already infected or whatever the hell.”
theo set everything out on the counter moments later, his movements close to unhurried than anything else given that the familiarity of this situation sat close enough tot he surface. but natalya's comment still earned a faint huff of laughter, amusement slipping through it all. “speak for yourself,” he shot back, the ghost of a smile now tugging at his mouth. “at least at a bar there’s a high chance i go home with someone interesting enough to keep my attention, and get an evening that doesn’t involve blood and theatrics.” he let his attention shift properly to her arm then, focus settling as he checked the damage.
“now,” he added, steadier than before, “do you want to tell me what actually happened—” there was a brief glance up, something glinting in his expression, “—or should i brace myself for an elaborate lie?”

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER 9.04 | The Broken Code
When you get mad, take a deep breath and count to ten. Throw a punch at eight. No one ever expects that.
lorenzo moretti / open starter. the guilded room night club.
rodeo's weren't exactly lorenzo's thing, alas, he briefly attended the annual shindig that lured so many to it's confines. depending on how you looked at it, the night was, eventful nonetheless. an onlooker to the burning chaos that ensued, mind pondering immediately as to who had sparked such situations. both figuratively, and literally, that is. regardless, enzo was quick to return to the comfortability of his night club, for some respite.
was it normal to spend the night at your place of business? probably not, but this man took great pride in the reputation of the club, and the moretti name. so, if that meant the manager took refuge on the sofa in his office from time to time? then so be it. this morning was one of those occasions, of course, getting caught up in the excitement from the evening prior.
"we're not open for another hour." the man called out, noticing the pitter patter of some footprints approaching the bar that he was currently stocking ahead of the evening rush. "so, what can i do you for?" he later questioned, wondering if this was business or pleasure.
“you can give me a raise, that’s what you can do.” astryd didn’t so much as slow on her way in, entirely and completely unfazed by the fact he hadn’t even bothered to turn, to check who’d walked through the door, let alone why they might be here. nothing new here. instead, she moved like she belonged there anyway, like the answer should’ve been obvious without her having to pipe up about it.
“or a glass of wine,” she added on just as easily, “before i have to sit through the woes of men before watching them fantasise about things they’ll only ever get in their dreams. like my attention once the clock strikes five.” a soft hum followed with a faint smirk, almost thoughtful. “truly the least you could do for me.”
she slipped out of sight then, brief and just long enough to allow herself to drop her bag in the back, before returning and claiming a stool at the bar like it had been waiting for her. settling in, she leaned forward slightly as sharp nails tap out an idle rhythm against the counter and her gaze all back on him. “so that wine, since you're already on the go?"
location: outside the guilded room nightclub
lingering around the club at odd hours after her shift was rarely a smart move, rather it was usually the kind of mistake she avoided given the awful amount of chance encounters. more often than not astryd would slip out without a second glance back to where she'd come, find another bar for a quick drink, a reset even, then head home and bring herself back into something resembling normality and the kind of life that existed outside of.. everything else.
tonight, though, was different as her head tipped back against the wall, the cool surface grounding as her gaze trailed along the slow curl of cigarette smoke into the night air as she exhaled. the club continued to pulse behind her; muffled bass, laughter and the stagger of the drunks spilling out or being turned away at the door. she gave a small nod to a couple of the dancers passing by, familiar faces in the blur and concealment of the night, then let the quiet settle in around her for just a moment. just long enough to almost disappear into it—
until the sound of approaching footsteps cut through it instead, and the look she shot over in reaction was instinctive as it was sharp, and already annoyed before she even fully turned her head. the words followed just as easily, “no one ever tell you it’s rude to interrupt a lady and her peace?”
open to anyone in town.
location: the rattlesnake bar
it was almost second nature for her to smile and call out whenever she heard the bell ontop the rattlesnake bar clink to signal a newcomer. "take any seat that's open, i'll be with you in a second." she called over her shoulder, placing the glass she'd been drying on the rack and throwing the towel over her shoulder.
"what can i get you?" her upbeat nature came with ease. though it was a stark difference to the ambiance that had fallen over the town since the recent event.
then again, there was a group of men in the corner who's voices travelled. "ignore them, they're betting on what and who was responsible for what happened at the rodeo and far." she paused, shrugging. "—unless you've got theories."
theo gave a slight nod at the call over as he entered, eyes already sweeping over the space as he moved towards the bar. this had remained somewhere he’d apparently managed to avoid until now, though he’d tried a few other places for a drink but a tip off from someone on shift earlier had landed him here tonight after a particularly gruelling day.
“rum and coke, thanks,” he spoke easily, slipping into the seat a moment later. but her comment paired with the noise of conversation further down had him tilting his head just enough to catch onto it. curiosity piqued before letting out a quiet laugh. “we’ve got a betting board at work for things like that,” he mused, shrugging lightly. “so far my money’s on it being a drunk. though apparently i haven’t been here long enough to know who, or what, would actually start a fire at a rodeo.”
another soft chuckle followed as he leaned against the bar, attention still half tipped towards the unfolding chatter. “didn’t stick around for the aftermath of that,” he added, “but, i suppose it kept things interesting.”

Anastasia (1997) dir. Don Bluth & Gary Goldman
⸻ tati gabrielle, 32, cis woman, she/her ; … around redford, names don’t stay clean for long. ASTRYD SINCLAIR is no exception. they are THIRTY TWO, born and raised or just passing through the town. when the sun rises, they work as DANCER AT THE GUILDED ROOM & INFORMATION BROKER, but around here, that rarely tells the whole story. their name has been heard in connection to MORETTI ( affiliated ) and like most in this town, they carry their weight in quiet ways. some say they can be GUARDED and PROTECTIVE, depending on who’s asking and what’s at stake. they’ve laid claim to MAIN STREET DISTRICT, though ownership in redford is never as simple as it looks. land shifts, loyalties change, and nothing stays untouched for long. lately, their name has been circling for being PRO PRESERVATION. in a town where legacy matters and progress threatens, the only question that ever really lingers is this: will they hold their ground or lose everything trying?
trigger warnings: murder
"cruel?" jett repeats, raising an eyebrow, then he huffs, shaking his head once "those bad guys are bred for this" he adds, nodding toward the chute "treated better than most folks ya'll meet 'round here. fed right, watched close, kept in better shape than half the men ridin' 'em to be honest" a faint smirk pulls at his lips, not softening anything "hell, some of 'em probably eat better than ya do"
a beat "deckers, yeah. that be us" he admitted, his hand coming out after a beat - dirt all over it, rough when it meets theo's "well, where did ya came from, theo? cause i have the feeling ya've never lived in a small town 'fore"
"you know, being bred for something doesn't suddenly make it alright, it can still be cruel," he points out, shrugging just so because sure he'd see his point, but it didn't mean theo had to find himself agreeing so readily with it either. "and i don't doubt any of that, for the record. but doesn't that mean you should probably treat yourselves better?" he laughed quietly, faintly amused by this entire thread of thought. "how many tend to get injured in these kinds of games, then?"
he nodded just a little, unsurprised his thoughts were correct, and despite the dirt covering the mans hand, theo doesn't pull away when it meets his own. "depends on your definition of small town, and how much you're judging a book by it's cover right now," he smirked just a little, but waved off a moment later. "i'm from london, moved to the states when i was fifteen and never settled since. so i won't say your judgement isn't earned either, but i've worked in various areas all the same."
"okay, now you're just making this overly complicated and i hate to even admit this right now - but you're probably right," she replied. head traumas could manifest in many different forms and severity, a common occurance for many ER visits. rolling her eyes, she lifts up her equally empty body of booze that she had been nursing on, offering a toast to her co-workers whom were the unlucky one's.
"well, where are we headed, theo? are you going to be a gentleman and buy me something to snack on? or will you win me a stuffed animal? i've never been good at those damn games. something tells me you might be decent enough to win me even something small," savannah admitted in an over dramatic tone ( mostly thanks to her slightly buzzed state for that ).
“hate to admit it, but still did,” theo grins, and there was just enough in his expression to suggest that it had gone straight to his head as they started forward at an easy pace. his gaze dipped briefly to their drinks and the empty fashion of them, and he filed that away as something to fix.
“how about this,” he went on, tone shifting with that playful lilt. “i win you something oversized to a stupid degree, because i’m not going to aiming small when you’re clearly setting me up with a challenge i can’t deny right now,” he gestured ahead towards the line of game stalls, leaving it up to her to steer them in the direction of whichever she wanted. “then you show me what your favourite snack actually is so i’m not left guessing, and i’ll sort out the drinks while we’re at it. sound fair?” though whether he’d be any good at the games was another matter entirely, but theo had never been in the habit of backing down from a challenge, and he certainly didn’t do things halfway. “though.. he continued on a touch more exaggerated now to match her energy, “if this is all an elaborate set up and every single game is rigged, which, let’s be so fucking honest, they probably are, I’m going to be deeply offended.”

"i'm almost positive they'll be one head trauma, maybe two cases of food poisoning, and god knows how many drunken fools will stumble their way in through the ER doors," the blonde let out a chuckle, mentally thinking about how terrible it had to be for her fellow co-workers that were stuck working tonight. it was bound to be a great variety of cases, nothing short of entertaining.
"what? do you think i would have came here with someone?" sav spoke out. truthfully, she wasn't the most extroverted individual, large crowds and events eventually getting the best of her a majority of the time. "honestly? i was getting pretty close to cutting out early, but hey ... maybe i'll just stick around a little bit longer."
“come on now.. one head trauma is far too optimistic,” theo mused, “i’d put it closer to three, depending on severity, outcome, and whatever poor decision led to it. which doesn't just have to be the bulls.” and some small sadistic part of him almost wished he’d be on shift for it when it all kicked off. but witnessing the aftermath would have to suffice, and it was probably safer that way for now. “to the night shift,” he tagged on, lifting the near empty bottle he was still holding onto in a loose and almost mocking toast, “and may luck be at least vaguely on their side tonight.”
maybe there was the slightest surprise in her response though as he asked, “should i have a reason to think otherwise?” honest enough. he was still new here, after all, and someone like savannah didn’t exactly strike him as the type to be without company, even if it wasn't as much as others. likeable, after all. but then it shifted into something light, a flicker of playfulness threaded with that familiar smugness when she decided to stay. “wise choice,” he went on, “and yes, i am absolutely accepting the honour of being the reason you’re staying.”
he adjusted his stance slightly before nodding towards the stalls ahead where the noise and light carried its way back to them. “which means you don’t get to linger at the edges all night if we’re actually going to find a way to enjoy this, as questionable as that concept might be to you.” theo held his arm out then, that same smirk settling in properly now, familiar to both, as an invitation, or a challenge depending on how she chose to take it. “come on.”
this was what adelaide had grown up around. a decker-sponsored fair, one her family took a good deal of pride in, and she’d be here, same as always, cheering them on in every event they put their name to. even if she was cutting in late, slipping through the crowd until she found herself a gap to settle into.
“you say that to the wrong person ‘round here, you might just offend ‘em.” half-teasing, but not entirely. she’d seen how quick things could turn in an arena like this. “best be careful what you say.” not a threat, just the kind of warning folks either listened to or learned from.
she glanced over at him. “i’m guessin’ you’re new here?”
“i’ve said enough of the wrong things to the wrong people to know that,” came his response after a moment, though a quiet chuckle undercutting it. habit, more than anything, that was learned early and remained out of instinct. and.. if it ever came down to it.. well, he’d never been particularly bad at handling pain and the consequence of action.
still, theo shrugged it off easily enough as he let his attention shift from the spectacle in front of them back to her instead. “somewhat,” he nodded, “three months in. so not exactly new, but not familiar either.” there was a slight tilt of his head then, “theodore vane,” he offered, before the corner of his mouth curled only a little. “or just theo if we’re not feeling overly formal. theodore’s a bit of a mouthful, and one i’d rather not have to hear from most.”
