LENGTH OF TIME IN COYOTE'S REST. 38 YEARS
AFFILIATED GANG. THE JACKALS
Rafael Grenados was born into the kind of life people spend years trying to escape. His father rode with one of Las Vegas' older motorcycle clubs long before "the Jackals" ever existedโa respected rider who commanded loyalty right up until the day federal agents dragged him away in handcuffs. Rafe was eleven when his father was sentenced to prison. Old enough to understand what was happening. Young enough to never recover from it.
After his father went away, his mother became bitter. Or maybe she always had been. She blamed her husband for destroying their family. Blamed the outlaw lifestyle. Blamed the city. Eventually, she started blaming Rafe when he grew tall enough to resemble the man she hated. Every argument ended the same wayโwith her reminding him he was becoming his father.
By sixteen, Rafe had stopped trying to earn her approval. By eighteen, he was barely speaking to her at all. Their relationship never recovered. Even now, decades later, they only speak when absolutely necessary, and most conversations end with one of them hanging up first.
Rafe spent his teenage years angry at the world and looking for somewhere to belong. He found it in garages, backroads, and abandoned lots hidden on the outskirts of Vegas. While other kids were planning futures, he was learning how to tear apart engines and put them back together better than before. Cars made sense to him. They were predictable. Loyal. If something broke, you fixed it. Simple. People were never that easy.
When whispers of a new racing crew started circulating through the city in 2016, Rafe was already there. Long before the Jackals controlled routes or drew crowds, he was one of the drivers helping establish their reputation. He raced when the odds were bad, took risks others wouldn't, and earned a reputation for staying unnervingly calm behind the wheel. While others chased attention, Rafe focused on winning.
The Jackals eventually became what his family never was. Loyalty had rules. Brotherhood made sense. People left. People got arrested. People got hurt, but the chain held. For better or worse, Rafe built his entire identity around that fact.
The problem was that every time life offered him something outside of the Jackals, he found a reason not to take it. Most of those reasons had a name. Shay. They'd known each other since they were kids, crossing paths often enough that friendship became inevitable. Somewhere along the way friendship became something messier. Neither of them could ever pinpoint exactly when.
Maybe it was a drunken kiss at nineteen. Maybe it was the first time he showed up bloodied after a race and she stitched him up without asking questions. Maybe it had always been there.
By their early twenties, everyone knew they came as a pair, even when neither of them would admit it. The problem was that Rafe never learned how to choose. He loved Shay. Most people could see it. But love wasn't the issue. Commitment was.
He spent years keeping one foot out the door, convinced that if he gave someone enough of himself they'd eventually leave anyway. Every time things became serious, he'd pull away. Every time she tried to leave, he'd chase her back. It became a cycle neither of them knew how to break.
The final blowout happened when they were twenty-six. Years of promises, excuses, and almosts finally caught up to them. Shay asked him for something real. Rafe gave her another reason to wait.
So she left. Vegas. Him. Everything. For the first time in his life, she didn't come back.
The next six years were some of the worst of his life. He buried himself in the Jackals. In racing. In fights. In late nights spent rebuilding engines he didn't need to rebuild. He dated other women, usually briefly and never seriously. Anyone who got close eventually realized they were competing with a ghost.
Shay returned to Coyote's Rest at thirty-three. By then Rafe had convinced himself he'd moved on. That illusion lasted about five minutes. The years since have been exactly what everyone expected: messy. They fall back together. They fall apart again. They circle each other like magnets with opposite intentions. Every time it feels different. Every time it ends the same way.
Because for all the things Rafe has survivedโviolence, loss, betrayal, prison visits, funerals, and years spent living at speeds that should've killed himโthe one thing he's never figured out is how to let someone love him without expecting them to leave.
Outwardly, he's calm. Quiet. Controlled. Behind the wheel, they call him Ghost.
In reality, he's carrying decades of anger he doesn't know what to do with.
He sleeps worse than he admits. Keeps everyone at arm's length. Wears the Jackals' chain tattoo with more pride than he'll ever confess. And despite spending most of his life convinced there was nothing waiting for him beyond racing, Shay remains the one person capable of making him wonder if he was wrong.
The Jackals know him as dependable. The city knows him as dangerous. Shay knows him as both. And after nearly twenty years of bad timing, broken promises, and unfinished conversations, she's still the only person who's ever made him imagine a life beyond the next race.
๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ซ๐ฐ .
family related.
Rafe still has every letter his father ever sent from prison. They're stuffed into an old shoebox in the back of his closet, tied together with a rubber band that's probably older than some Jackals members. He spent years telling people his father was "away for work" before finally admitting the truth.
The last physical fight Rafe ever got into with his mother happened when he was seventeen. It never got beyond shoving and yelling, but the things they said to each other were worse than any punches. Despite their strained relationship, he secretly checks on his mother. Makes sure her bills are paid if she's struggling. Fixes things around her house while she's out so she can't refuse the help.
He inherited his father's watch and wears it almost every day, though he'd deny it means anything. His father always encouraged the racing, while his mother hated it. The more she pushed against it, the more Rafe leaned into it. One of his biggest fears is hearing someone describe him the same way people described his father.
childhood related.
He was a quiet kid, not a troublemaker. Most people are surprised when they hear that.
He learned how to drive years before he was legally allowed to.
Growing up, he spent more time in garages than at home.
Teachers constantly told him he had potential if he "applied himself." He hated hearing that phrase.
He got his first tattoo at eighteen and hid it from his mother for almost a year.
He used to draw car designs in the margins of his notebooks instead of paying attention to instruction.
the jackals.
Rafe has the chain tattoo somewhere easy to hide. It's meaningful to him, but he isn't flashy about it.
He remembers almost everyone who was around during the early Jackals days.
He still knows the exact route of the first race he ran under the Jackals' name.
Younger members often assume he's intimidating until they actually talk to him.
He's the guy people call when they're stranded at 2 a.m.
He's fiercely loyal to the gang but doesn't romanticize the life. He knows exactly how ugly it can get.
If someone betrays the Jackals, Rafe doesn't get loud. He gets quiet, which is usually worse.
former street racing days.
He drives with one hand on the wheel most of the time.
His cars are always cleaner than his house.
He knows every backroad in and around Coyote's Rest.
He prefers driving at night.
The sound of an engine running smoothly genuinely relaxes him.
He's survived at least one crash that should've killed him. He never talks about that crash.
His nickname, Ghost, originally came from how impossible he was to catch during races.
shay related.
Shay is one of the only people who can make him genuinely nervous. He can recognize her footsteps. If someone asks how long they've known each other, he says "forever."
He remembers every time she left and every time she came back. When she moved away, he spent months looking for her car out of habit.
He still has old photos of them tucked away where nobody would think to look.
He once bought a ring. He never gave it to her. He almost threw it away after she left. Almost.
He knows exactly how she takes her coffee.
Even after all these years, she's the first person he wants to tell when something good happens.
general facts.
He doesn't sleep much.
Most nights, he's either driving, working on a car, or sitting outside smoking.
He has a habit of rubbing the back of his neck when he's stressed.
He almost never raises his voice.
People trust him with secrets because he genuinely keeps them.
He's surprisingly good with kids.
Dogs love him.
He owns more black T-shirts than any person reasonably should.
He doesn't like talking about feelings, but he's an excellent listener when someone else needs to vent.
He always sits facing exits in restaurants and bars.
He remembers everything people tell him, even if he acts like he wasn't paying attention.
He has a dry sense of humor that catches people off guard.
The older he gets, the more he understands his father.
The older he gets, the more that realization terrifies him.

the "one" who got away !! โ it's hard to explain shay without explaining half of rafe's life. they've known each other since they were kids, growing up in the same corners of vegas before friendship slowly became something neither of them could ever quite define. by their twenties, everyone assumed they'd eventually end up togetherโeveryone except them. what followed was years of bad timing, almosts, and a relationship that never seemed to exist at the same time for both of them. when Shay left the city at twenty-six after one broken promise too many, it was the first time she didn't come back. six years later, she returned, and despite everything that had happened, they slipped right back into old habits. they've spent the last few years falling together and apart in equal measure, unable to let go but equally incapable of getting it right. for all of rafe's loyalty to the jackals and the life he's built, shay remains the one person who's always had the power to make him question it. ( taken )
messy rebound / semi "ex" !! โ in the aftermath of shay's departure, rafe might have had a short, messy rebound relationship with a womanโperhaps a fellow jackals member or someone he met randomly at a bar / from another gang. he wasnโt looking for anything serious; he was just trying to drown out his grief and anger with physical distraction. the relationship was filled with emotional detachment on rafe's part, while the other person was in it for their own reasons. rafe used this woman as a means to forget, but it ultimately only made things worse. the emotional disconnect between them became too obvious, and she eventually left too, unable to compete with a "ghost". rafe hasn't talked to her since and they've sort of developed a love/hate dynamic now where they obviously remember their attraction but can't stand each other for obvious reasons. ( open )
one night stands !! โ every so often, rafe has found himself engaging in short-term, no-strings-attached flings. these relationships are completely physical, a way to fill the void without dealing with the mess of emotional intimacy. they happen when rafe is feeling particularly closed off or disconnected, and he just wants to feel something without the weight of his emotional baggage. these flings are often forgettable for both parties, but rafe still uses them as a way to escape. when they end, he brushes them off without much thought, but the emptiness of it all still lingers. he knows itโs unhealthy and that these fleeting relationships only make him feel more isolated, but he falls into the habit of using them when heโs too afraid to deal with his deeper issues. ( open 0 / 2 )
the screw up !! โ someone rafe is always bailing out. they bring him constant headaches. yet, he secretly cares about them more than he admits. ( open )
former racing rival !! โ used to race against each other before the jackals took over. still talk trash. mutual respect. ( open )
rival turned brother or sister !! โ hated each other when they first met. constant competition, eventually became family. ( open )

NAME. ย ANASTASIOS PAPADOPOULOS

OCCUPATION. ย CONMAN + FIXER
CURRENTLY LIVING IN. TBA
GENDER + PRONOUNS. ย CISMALE โ ย HE/HIM
LENGTH OF TIME IN COYOTE'S REST. 3 MONTHS
AFFILIATED GANG. THE REMAINS
Anastasios Papadopoulos was born into a family where deception wasn't considered a sinโit was survival.
For generations, the Papadopoulos family made their living through scams, confidence schemes, and elaborate cons. They drifted from city to city, changing names, stories, and identities as easily as changing clothes. To them, trust was currency, and people existed somewhere between opportunities and obstacles.
By the age of six, Taz was already learning how to smile at strangers and tell lies with conviction. His parents treated him less like a son and more like an investment. They taught him how to read people, how to spot weakness, and how to sell hope to those foolish enough to buy it. By his teens, he could talk his way into almost anything and out of nearly everything.
He hated it. Not the rush. Not the game itself. The lack of choice. Every dollar he earned, every identity he wore, every scheme he helped orchestrate belonged to somebody else. His parents controlled everything. They preached loyalty while using their children as pieces on a board.
So eventually, Taz did the one thing nobody in his family had ever done. He walked away. Following his younger sister to Coyote's Rest, he promisedโmostly to herโthat he'd leave the worst parts of himself behind. No more elaborate scams. No more taking advantage of innocent people. No more running.
Unfortunately, old habits don't die. They evolve. Coyote's Rest introduced him to The Remains, the organization operating behind the glamour and excess of the 666 Casino. Unlike his family, the gang wasn't built on blood or tradition. They valued usefulness above all else, and usefulness happened to be Taz's specialty.
He found himself among people who understood that information could be deadlier than bullets and that sometimes the easiest way to control a person wasn't fearโit was debt.
Now, working as one of the Remains' most trusted Fixers, Taz handles problems no one else wants touching their hands. He smooths over disputes, talks debtors into cooperation, cleans up loose ends, and ensures bad situations become manageable ones.
Officially, he's just another familiar face around the casino. Unofficially, he's the man people call when things go sideways.
And despite everything he's done, Taz still tells himself he's different from the people who raised him. Some days, he even believes it.
๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ซ๐ฐ .
Taz possesses the kind of charisma that's difficult to distrust. Easy smiles, sharp wit, and a voice that sounds like he's sharing a secret with only youโhe has spent his entire life making people feel comfortable enough to lower their guard.
Beneath that charm lies a man perpetually at war with himself. He's clever, observant, and dangerously adaptable, able to think his way out of situations that would leave most people cornered. Though naturally manipulative, he's become far more selective about how he uses those talents. He prefers persuasion over intimidation and humor over violence, often acting as the peacemaker before problems become bloodshed.
Authority figures make his skin crawl. Years spent under controlling parents left him fiercely independent and deeply suspicious of anyone who demands obedience simply because they hold power.
Despite his questionable morals, Taz has an undeniable soft spot for underdogs, lonely people, and anyone being exploited. He understands what it feels like to belong nowhere and to spend your entire life being useful rather than loved.
He often hides sincerity behind sarcasm and jokes, treating vulnerability like a language he never properly learned.
And although he'll deny it with a grin and a cigarette, he wants something he's never truly had: A place to belong.
His role within The Remains: Where others in the outfit rely on violence, Taz relies on people. He's the one sent to calm angry creditors, convince debtors to cooperate, negotiate arrangements, smooth over internal disputes, and make inconvenient problems quietly disappear. He specializes in reading people and understanding exactly what they need to hear. He rarely raises his voice. He rarely needs to. Members joke that "Rocky" could talk a priest into cheating at cards and convince the devil to extend a payment plan. More often than not, they're right.
๐ ๐ฌ๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ซ๐ฐ .
younger sister ( 34 ) !! โ she was the first one brave enough to walk away. unlike rocky, she never enjoyed the games, the lies, or the thrill of taking advantage of people. she spent years trying to convince her brothers there had to be something better than the life their parents had planned for them. eventually, she disappeared, settling down and building something resembling a normal life. rocky followed years later, largely because she was the only person whose opinion still mattered to him. they love each other fiercely, though sheโs still convinced her brother is incapable of staying out of trouble for longer than a week. he insists she's dramatic. she insists she's right. ( open / wanted connection )
younger brother ( 32 ) !! โ considered "the black sheep" of the family. their parents always thought he'd be the best of them. smart, charming, and frighteningly gifted, he was expected to inherit the family business. instead, he became its biggest disappointment. whether he escaped, stayed, or walks somewhere in between is entirely up for debate. rocky and his little brother spent years competing, protecting each other, and occasionally dragging one another into terrible decisions. they understand each other better than anyone, which means they also know exactly how to hurt each other. ( open / wanted connection )
older brother ( 38 ) !! โ he's the "heir apparent". if anyone inherited their parents' ambitions, it was him. whether out of duty, greed, or survival, he stayed loyal to the family while the others drifted away. he's always viewed himself as the one holding everything together, even if it meant becoming exactly what their parents wanted. he and rocky have spent years locked in an endless cycle of rivalry, resentment, and reluctant love. no matter how ugly things get, blood remains blood. ( open / wanted connection )
divorced without ever being "married" !! โ rocky and safiye have spent most of their lives orbiting one another. raised in neighboring families with deep roots in the world of cons and deception, they grew up speaking the same language of lies, charm, and survival. what began as a partnership evolved into a passionate but secret romance, built on electric chemistry and shared dreams of freedom. in the end, rocky walked awayโnot because he stopped loving her, but because his loyalty to his younger sister outweighed his desire to risk everything for safiye. years later, their relationship remains unresolved, caught somewhere between affection and resentment, with stolen moments, lingering attraction, and a connection neither of them has ever truly managed to leave behind. ( taken )
the ex mark !! โ years ago, they were supposed to be another name on a list and another successful con. instead, something happened. maybe rocky fell for them. maybe they figured him out? maybe they let him go when they should've ruined him. ( open )
rival within the remains or another gang !! โ they're too much alike and absolutely hate it. competing schemes, constant one-upmanship, and enough chemistry to make everyone uncomfortable. ( open )
casino regular !! โ a high roller who spends far too much time at the 666 and somehow ended up becoming Rocky's drinking buddy. ( open )
the bad influence !! โ the person who reminds him why crime is fun. ( open )
